Supermassive Games, the dev team behind Until Dawn, The Quarry, and the Dark Pictures series, has announced its decision to begin redundancy proceedings.
The news comes in an official statement on the studio's social channels. In order to cope with the industry's "challenging and ever-evolving environment", up to 36 team members will be laid off.
Going by a figure from 2023, Supermassive Games is about 350 people, so this redundancy period will reduce the headcount by approximately 10 per cent.
"This decision was not taken lightly, and we know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone. Our absolute priority will be to offer full support to all those affected," the statement reads.
Consequently, Directive 8020 — the next narrative horror game in Supermassive's Dark Pictures series — has been delayed to "the first half of 2026". The game was previously planned to launch on 2nd October 2025.
The statement adds that there's "no impact on the development of Little Nightmares 3", which means it's still on course for release on 10th October 2025.
