Light gun lovers hoping to get their The House of the Dead 2 Remake fix on the PS5 and PS4 will have to wait longer than those who own the Switch.
While publisher Forever Entertainment has affixed a 7th August release date to the re-release on Nintendo’s system and PC, a nebulous “later” window has been attached to Sony’s system. This follows the same pattern as the previous release, of course.
To be honest, we’re not a fan of the retouched art in this trailer, as uploaded by Gematsu. The original game is infamously ugly, of course, but it has a cartoon-like charm to it which has gone missing in these gritty reboot.

Of course, the gameplay should remain as strong as it was in 1998, although the lack of a proper light gun analogue on modern consoles does make it less enticing than it perhaps should.
We’ll update when we get official word of the PlayStation release date, but for now your only option is to suffer like G did.

I'm not yet played the 1st game remake and i heard it wasn't good. But i wish Sega port the original games for PS4/5.
Last week i bought House of the Dead 3 from PS3 store. It was only 2-3 bucks and i had a lot of fun with the game. Next month i'm probably gonna get the 4th one.
I don't understand why developers don't port all the old lightgun classics (and these remakes) to VR platforms. They're the best modern analog out there, by a mile.
I'd kill for Time Crisis and Confidential Mission games on my Quest.
@MFTWrecks @Medic_alert Exactly this! Virtually all light gun games would be amazing in VR and I have no idea why it isn't happening.
They would look fantastic on a giant floating screen.
House of The Dead Overkill and the Umbrella Chronicles games would be my personal top choices.
This looks like poop from a butt visually, but I'm still excited for it! Though it is bizarre that this series hasn't made it's way to VR yet, I do think the JoyCons lend themselves to rail shooters better than a standard controller
@SMJ I remember hearing that sega lost the source code. But not sure how true that is.
These games will always be useless without a lightgun. I miss playing Die hard 2 from the Die hard trilogy. Such a great lightgun game. Shame screens now days dont support the feature. I agree tho VR would be the perfect fit to release some of these games. Is sony dropped all the Time crisis games when the PSVR2 launched they would have printed money.
I'm a light gun lover and its for that reason that im sadly not excited for this release. I played the demo on Steam and it had all the same problems as the first remake, in that it isn't even built as a lightgun game.
I'll stick to my Sinden and the Dreamcast version
@Kidfunkadelic83 I actually still have house of the dead 2 for the pc with 2 light guns (one blue and one pink) but they didn't work on my TV so they were banished to the spectral realm (the attic) where they remain to this day.
I would actually consider a psvr2 if all the light gun games were on it.
@PuppetMaster the aiming wasnt great when it was released, but they added more options after. Gyro aiming ended up being pretty good. From memory the first one wasnt really a remake, it was more a reimagineering (anyone feel free to correct me, it’s a looong time since i played the original). It was one of those games i forgot i had though
Blindingly obvious that this should be on PSVR2 or at the very least come with a modern retake on a lightgun. Come on Sega wake up!
@SMJ But why do a big floating screen? They could put you INSIDE the cabinet, basically.
I have absolutely adored Arizona Sunshine and Pistol Whip. Every "FPS" game on Quest has been - at worst - solid af.
Maybe it'd take a little reworking to do what I envision, so maybe they'd be more remake than port, but I think they would sell incredibly well. VR is the perfect platform for numerous old series and they could be revived and made better than ever.
@MFTWrecks Agreed. The floating screen I suggested is the bare minimum they could do.
If these were for VR, or even just motion controllers or even other light guns that work on modern TVs sure, but they don't. It's always analogue sticks and whatever else. The bare minimum effort.
Cough, if Nintendo wasn't so useless in the IR use, maybe many would use it.
Or devs so useless and used IR as a cursor, you hold the Right Joycon in the left hand, but no we can't do that. Is it not capable or devs are too stupid to use it the 'wrong' way. I wanted Wii like uses with it this way, but none of that happened. Grrr
Forever Entertainment are ok but still feel too low budget to do anything or can't be bothered. They do the bare minimum. They work but I still always get a bit disappointed in some way.
@DrVenture69 It's not important if it's a remake, remade, remaster, or reimagined. I just wanna know if the new paint still fun to play like the original game.
And does the original game got included too where we can unlocked it after beating the game? I love it when a remake included the original game, like Medievil PS4 included the PS1 version or Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles include SNES Rondo of Blood.
This would be a perfect fit for my PSVR2 controllers. Make it happen!
@Lowdefal the first one was so janky for the DC. I remember being about 14 and one of the lines a woman said to an approaching monster was "Dont come, dont come" gave me and my buddies a chuckle. Great game with the DC gun overall tho.
Ridiculous. I was hoping to play it this weekend
A light gun game without a light gun just comes off as a half assed money grab. On top of a last minute delay with no explanation or estimate of a potential release date just kinda kills any interest
