Game-to-movie adaptations are proving so popular at the moment that Ubisoft even feels justified in turning its extreme sports title Riders Republic into one.
The project was confirmed as part of the French publisher's latest financial earnings call, where it was revealed the live-action film shall be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who recently did Bad Boys for Life. "Set on the snowy slopes of the Alps, the film will deliver non-stop thrills, humor, and spectacular stunts," said Ubisoft.
The company has a rather mixed history with film and television. The movie adaptation of Assassin's Creed from 2016 was awful, but the firm was attached to more successful TV shows like Mythic Quest and Side Quest.
Due to the focus on sports, we would like to think Ubisoft will be taking cues from Sony's own Gran Turismo film, which made its story more about an individual racer than simply driving around a track like in the game.
Do you think a Riders Republic movie has a chance of success? Let us know in the comments below.

that guy's face looks too much like Elon's for my liking...
This is madness! I hope Ubi is getting paid to do this instead of them paying whoever’s making it. Because it’ll certainly be a huge flop!
@Oram77 Okay now I see it.
Was a really good game, underrated… not sure how it’ll fare as a movie though.
Also, I’d be up for a sequel… however unlikely.
lol what?!? I love Riders Republic but absolutely cannot see it transferring well to the big screen. Why have they/are they trying to turn every single franchise into a movie?
@Oram77 I can't unsee this now hahaha
Really don't think this will translate well to film, as the gameplay is where the game was at its best.
@Oram77 It kinda does lol
@Oram77 God, it does. Have you seen 3:10 to Yuma? There's a really annoying guy in that who looks like Musk too. Fortunately he gets stabbed to death.
Those two are brilliant directors, really fresh camera work and action. Batgirl never being released is criminal, their work on Ms Marvel proved they could do superhero stuff. This is a truly stupid game to adapt but their style will gel nicely with extreme sports.
Insert obligatory "will Jack Black be in this?" comment joke.
@Oram77 : Thanks for that, now I can't see unsee it.🤣👌
Out of all the video games, whether it's a franchise or a singular title, to make a movie this would not have been my guess. Wouldn't even make top 100 of my guesses. I just don't see this being profitable for anyone involved.
The mass race would be cool i suppose.
But will it be EXTREME?!
Yes. Really hope someone handed Ubi free money to do this and it's not a "brilliant idea" they came up with.
One trick duo these guys. If you've seen one movie, you've seen them all. And don't forget Batgirl...
@Matroska Kevin Durand, and he absolutely does. Especially as he ages because he didn't always.
Original ideas are hard, guys.
I couldn't play this game because of how excruciating the writing was.
I actually think this could translate well to the big screen. But since it's Ubisoft people will hate it no matter what.. as is tradition.
It's no Kool-Aid movie, but could be interesting.
Bad decisions like these are why Ubisoft deserves ever bankruptcy coming their way.
@GirlVersusGame Really? Oh no. Imagine the trauma of slowly aging to look like Elon Musk. I suppose the ultimate evolution is to be permanently stuck in the pose of doing a constant Nazi salute.
It's different but it's story or it's IP value is hardly that compelling.
Sure extreme sports type tv/movies make sense or biking, skating and more type media can work but this game wasn't that much working well was it?
At least a car racing movie I can go yeah that's enjoyable. Even if GT movie was eh it did enough of the job besides being not as good as other car manufacturer or racing movies.
But this. I don't know. The dialogue was annoying enough as it is. Let alone I assume decent gameplay (never played, I respect it being something different from Ubi but even then Steep or otherwise I don't think much of them) but enough to make a movie out of? Maybe.
What's next a Trackmania movie? Trials movie?
Something else to not expect.
Yeah waste more money, please disband asap, move out go go go, see ya wouldn't wanna be ya 🤣
