Silent Hill 2's Proper PS5 Pro Patch Is Still in the Works

Thats really poor of them

I love the remake but this is a very bad look for both parties involved, I have been holding off on my Pro play through because of this.

Better late than never I guess. I was holding off on playing this, fingers crossed the patch drops before Halloween!

I'm glad they didn't abandon it. And they're still working on it, at least. I've had the game since day one and Platinumed it within the first week of release on my base PS5. By the time the Pro released, I had already moved on.

If they have it sorted out by October, I'll go back for another playthrough on my PS5 Pro this time, for spooky season 🎃 👻 🎃 👻

Now Bring on Silent Hill F, & Silent Hill 1 Remake, please.

From memory (iirc):
The shimmering effect was due to a Pro enhancement they had actually made either pre launch, or as part of early patches, and their implementation of (possibly a very early version of) PSSR was the cause of the issue.
The last I can remember is that they fixed the shimmering effect in the performance mode, but hadn't made any noticeable changes to the quality mode.
The performance mode still remained very lacklustre compared to other games pro enhanced modes.

Seen this on sale a few times now, but I wont bother until they get it up to scratch - maybe by Christmas?....

As others have said, this is a really bad look for them as a dev team - it was bad enough not being able to use the Pro's additional power any better in the first place (they could have just not used PSSR and used the additional GPU power), but this sounds like a bit of a farce.

Glad ive not bought it yet.By the time its fixed it'll be £20.

Game has awful shimmering on PC as well, they still need to work on this game on all platforms.

Such a brilliant game, hope they can work it out. I finished it on my vanilla PS5 right before I got the Pro, but will absolutely replay on my Pro once they patch it.

My whining has paid off it seems, thought they were going to ditch it

I have no idea what you are talking about, well apart from being unnecessarily insulting, that is. Others have said similar, but you haven't insulted them.

It may be that you are misinterpreting genuine strong feelings as being "melodramatic" - a good example of melodramatic is saying something like "If this doesn’t win GOTY then I give up on gaming", if you haven't the intention to do so (taken from your comments history), or using "News Flash...." to voice an opinion others may not hold. Misinterpretation of emotional intentions is easy where you only have written comments.

Over half my post is just the facts as I remember them (which I did add "iirc" as its been a while) - I am generally well 'read up' on technical/visual performance as A) I am very badly affected by frame rate/pacing performance issues (sickness/headaches), and B) a good looking/performing game is important to me in gaming anyway and I am interested.

The next part of my comment is purely my position on when I will buy the game. I try very hard to not reward poor optimisation or low effort Pro versions as that will only lead to the same or less effort in the the future - if you dont care about worsening standards, go ahead.

Regarding the end of my comment, why is this not a farce?
They have been advertising this game as being pro enhanced for 7 months I believe. As a Pro owner, I want to play games which (as many games do) takes full advantage of the tech and power available to them in the Pro.
They somehow managed to release a version of the game on the Pro which had a negative effect on the visuals - do they not playtest and compare? And still haven't delivered on their adverised promise over 6 months later. That imo constitutes a farce (and maybe a poor dev team).

I played on the PRO it ran much better than it did on base

I was defending bloober as hell when literally all people bashed them because they didn‘t trust them with SH2.

But this is just beyond poor, 7 months for a simple Pro patch!? Tf?

Base game was utterly fantastic and I’m glad I got to enjoy it in that regard.

Just bought the game. Guess I'll wait for a patch before i start. Stellar Blade set the standard all Pro patches should meet.

@Dan12836666 but I’ll be the first to admit it should have been patched straight away considering it was advertised as PRO enhanced at launch. When all that was enhanced was the frame rate

Going of memory - and please keep in mind this is all from approx 6 months ago, so if anyone wants to re watch/read the DF material feel free to correct me:

• The game either launched with a Pro 'enhancement' or was updated before the Pro actually launched.
• That 'enhancement' included (possibly a very early) version of PSSR, instead of the standard upscaler.
• Due to the implementation of PSSR the image suffered extensive shimmering issues.
• They later (maybe a few weeks after Pro launched) released a patch 'fixing' the issue. Im pretty sure that it was only the Performance mode they fixed (and the quality mode retained the shimmering effect).
• If my recollection is correct, they did this by removing PSSR, and DFs opinion was that the resultant image quality was very similar to the base PS5 version - ie whilst they removed PSSR, they had not used the Pro's additional GPU power to enhance the image quality.
• The framerate throughout all this was tested to be higher on Pro, but still did not lock to 60fps (I dont think they knew why) in certain areas where the performance on base PS5 was poor, mainly an early section.
• based on the article above, I suspect this is how things stand all this time later.

Yeah, it did end up a bit like that didnt it!
Sadly, I think thats part of this games situation, and does explain why different people had different experiences.
All we should have had to have said is "They did a Pro patch - it runs at locked 60fps, and the image quality is greatly improved,".

This is kind of joke that they take so long to fix this. How is it possible that it has these issues are still not fixed.

@Rich33 I agree its baffling i truly believe they didnt play test this or wow someone is blind there. That is why i hate they patch it later as a excuse.

Baffling is an excellent word for it. Talking games in general, this certainly isn't the 1st time we have been in the "Did no one playtest this!?" line of thought though - I mean, sure sometimes patches break something completely unrelated and not obvious, but when your patch makes things worse (or just doesn't work) and you still put it out - I will never understand this.

Im also not sure I find Sony completely blameless here - they should maybe be more strict over Pro enhancement, even if they mandate it now, after all Xbox has rules for series S and that is mandated (plus maybe offer more game refunds for poor performance on base and Pro too). At the very least, they should have removed SH2's 'Pro Enhanced' status.

@Rich33 I agree on the last part 100% and i think we need more legistation on that part you can sell broken stuff and get away with it. And yes who signed off on this are they blind.
