At Least Sony's New PS2 Classic Has a Platinum Trophy on PS5, PS4 1

It’s so frustrating what’s going on with PS Plus Premium and Sony’s push to bring classic games to PS5 and PS4, because the platform holder clearly now has the pieces in place – but it’s flunking the content.

We have no issue with the release of Battle Engine Aquila this week, as it seems like an interesting PS2 outing that many may have overlooked. The problem is it’s the only retro game addition this week, at a time when a ton of titles are being removed from Sony’s subscription.

We appreciate and understand it’s likely hard work getting publishers like Square Enix and Capcom to hand over their precious licenses, especially at a time when re-releases like Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and compilations such as Capcom Fighting Collection 2 are selling extremely well.

But there’s so many games across the PS1, PSP, and PS2 that it could be adding that this glacial release pace is becoming irritating. Subscribers should have more to look forward to each month, and Sony absolutely could be doing a better job making more of this retro content available.

We really hope the platform holder’s receiving this message, because we think its emulator’s in a pretty good place these days. Most games ship with Trophies, which is neat, and you can often choose between PAL and NTSC builds. That’s great.

Which brings us back to the original point we wanted to mention: Battle Engine Aquila does have Trophies, and by all accounts is worth checking out. Again, no shade at that game, it’s cool to see it revived – we just want more from this initiative overall.
