Update []: Patch 1.0.5 for Assassin's Creed Shadows is available to download now on PS5. As promised, it weighs in at just over 3.3GB — which happens to be much smaller than on other platforms.
Just to quickly recap, the update brings new Dead by Daylight and Balatro crossover content, alongside improvements to parkour and photo mode. Shadows' next big patch is expected to arrive this summer.
You can get the full patch notes in the original article below.
Original Story: Ubisoft promised an Assassin's Creed Shadows update around the end of May, and now it's been fully detailed ahead of its launch on the 27th.
Expected to weigh in at around 3.3GB on PS5, patch 1.0.5 includes the previously teased Dead by Daylight crossover quest, alongside parkour improvements, photo mode additions, and... a secret Balatro challenge?
The Dead by Daylight collaboration apparently sees Naoe tackle a "formidable otherworldly threat", and you'll need to make use of "unique mechanics" to see the quest through. Succeed, and you'll unlock a themed trinket and banner.
There's also going to be a Dead by Daylight DLC pack available through the store, "featuring outfits, weapons, trinkets" and a mount. A real shame more of this stuff isn't part of the free quest.
As for the Balatro tie-in, the patch notes don't give much away — it sounds like players will have to try and work it out.
Oh, and an extra quest called 'Thrown to the Dogs', previously a pre-order exclusive, is going to be unlocked for everyone.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Update 1.0.5 Patch Notes
Thrown to the Dogs
With this update, all players will receive access to the pre-order bonus quest, "Thrown to the Dogs".
The quest is available in early game, once you have completed "From Spark to Flame".
Dead by Daylight Event
This event comes with a new free quest that you can access from the Hideout upon unlocking Yasuke as a playable character. Once the event is completed, you will obtain a free trinket and banner.
Balatro Trinket
We are also adding a new trinket for Naoe, and an amulet for Yasuke called "Winning Hand" — directly inspired by Balatro. These new items come with a legendary perk that gives you a chance to trigger a random affliction effect on combo enders.
Now... you will need to work together to figure out how to get it!
Parkour Improvements
The team has prepared a bunch of improvements to enhance the parkour mechanics. We want to give a big thank you to all our dedicated parkour players for their ongoing feedback since launch.
Here are the main changes:
- New Vertical Jump
- Sprint Toggle Lock
- Enhanced Back and Side Ejects
New Photo Mode Features
Photo Mode is receiving its biggest update for an Assassin's Creed game, with the addition of new features to better customize your shots and make the most out of capturing the beauty of Feudal Japan.
These include the following options:
- Change the time of day
- Play around with numerous poses and facial expressions
- Toggle headgear on/off
- Play music while editing your shots
- Sticker colorization
- New customization frames
- Save Custom Filters
- Reset only one parameter
- Tweak camera speed
- Improved preview mode
Bug Fixes
General
- Fixed the issue where players had a persistent New Item notification in their inventory. We did it!
- Addressed an issue where some players were given a new save file at level 60, with gear and all objectives uncovered.
- Fixed an issue where the desynchronization warning for 'killing civilians' would appear without any reason.
- Fixed an issue where romancing Lady Oichi before romancing Rin could cause a breakup.
- Fixed various localization issues.
Balancing
- Fixed an issue where the Samurai Daisho and Ronin occasionally gave an extremely high amount of Mon regardless of their level, disincentivizing other methods of gaining Mon.
- We have also partially rebalanced the Mon economy to encourage more world exploration and gameplay activities to earn Crafting Materials and Hideout Resources instead of purchasing them through merchants.
- In pursuit of this, we've bumped up the cost of Crafting Materials and Hideout Resources sold by Merchants and lowered the quantity available each season for each Merchant.
- If you still want to purchase them, we've increased the amount of Mon acquired from completing contracts.
World
- Fixed an issue where Yagoro would become trapped in a Kofun and not return to the hideout.
- Fixed an issue where players could remain stuck inside the construction site at Osaka Castle.
Quests
- Fixed an issue where players could not exit the quest "Vision of Realms" if they selected 'Quit to Memories' and loaded their progress from the Animus Memories menu.
- Fixed an issue where quitting during the "Nobutsuna Sensei" quest caused Yasuke to become stuck in the flashback.
- Fixed an issue where Yaya doesn't join "The League" after being successfully recruited.
- Fixed progress issues in the "Showdown in Sakamoto" quest that happened if Katsuhime previously died.
- Fixed an issue in the "Wake Up Call" quest where the "troublemaker" couldn't be hunted down.
- Fixed an issue in the "Find Local Dishes" quest where Narezushi could not be obtained from merchants.
- Fixed an issue in the "Wolves and Foxes" quest where players were not able to speak with Hattori Hanzo. I guess we'll let you talk to him now.
- Fixed an issue where players could not progress in "A Peculiar Guest".
- Fixed an issue where players could not complete the "Missing Missive" quest due to being unable to retrieve the letter.
- Fixed an issue where the game would crash during the "Temple of the Horseman (An Eye for an Eye)" quest.
- Fixed an issue in the "Diary of Lady Rokkaku" quest where Katsuhime's letter would sometimes disappear. You got mail!
- Fixed an issue where the game incorrectly believed Katsuhime was dead and players could not complete the "Diary of Lady Rokkaku" quest.
- Fixed an issue where players could not complete the "Diary of Lady Rokkaku" quest due to Naoe and Katsuhime being attached to surrounding water. They just wanted to go on a little swim!
- Fixed an issue where players could not complete the "Diary of Lady Rokkaku" quest due to Katsuhime dropping into the water and swimming to shore.
Stealth
- Fixed an issue where the Shinobi Bell effect was blocked by line of sight from NPCs.
Combat
- Adjusted an issue where the +600% affliction buildup engravings was a text error. It now has been fixed to reflect the real build-up amount of 6%.
Visuals and Graphics
- Fixed visual issues.
- Fixed some issues where the "Kaen" and "Sekiryu" mounts would not fully fit in the stables.
- Fixed a visual issue with the "Samurai Daimyo Armor".
- Addressed an issue where players could sometimes see a giant NPC in towns.
Hideout
- Improved stability for heavily customized Hideout.
- Fixed an issue where players could sometimes not interact with Gennojo in the Hideout.

Back in the day when one purchased a video game on media (cartridge, diskettes, CD, DVD, BluRay) one was happy to know that the game received was done. It was a finished work, having passed through several layers of reviews, and they worked like a charm.
Buggy games became the stuff of horror stories, and great games launched people and studio into their fame and success.
I am really sad these days seem to be over.
Assassins Creed keeps on pushing “fixes” and new features in patches which only make me feel I finished two full playthroughs of an incomplete game.
These additions are just making me want less of any future Ubisoft game. Or, I will learn to not buy on release and wait for two or three months, so that I can get my desired “finished product” feeling, and be content.
Will I re-download for these additions, and play it again?
A vigorous “hell no!” would be the answer.
@gamer153 mate, that was like 25 years ago now - I think it's time to accept the new gaming landscape.
Not even sure what fictional past you are even referring to where games were released in perfect condition, without glitches.
Didn't they promise parkour update in may?
@gamer153 First game I ever bought for my C64 was an Indiana Jones game on a floppy disk at Toys R Us. Totally unplayable, bugs out the wazoo. Had to return it. This idyllic perfect past never existed.
@gamer153 Why don't you just wait 6 - 12 months after a release to play it? It's cheaper and a better experience at that point.
@gamer153 games were also 3 hours long and had no save files so you had to note down a 25 digit alpha numeric enigma code(case sensitive) to save a level
@CVCubbington This is a good point. People seem to think games were flawless on release before this generation. So many great games are full of bugs there were never fixed.
@gamer153 Wait till you find out that back in the "good old days" if game launched with a game breaking bug you were sh#t outta luck or had to buy an updated print of the game that might have a fix in place. Fun fact there's a GBA game can't remember its exact name but it featured in a recent video i saw and the Pal version is impossible to complete because there's a game ending bug that will 100% happen near the end. Finally PC games were getting patched and updated long before it was a thing on console.
@gamer153 so many lies in one post lmao, games would still release being bugged, there were no such thing as patches so a lot of games were physically recalled and then reshipped once issues were fixed, there were no autosaves, manual saving was done via insane 25 character codes, insane amounts of soft locking, and more slop in the market than ever before.
You can criticise what you don’t like about today’s era of gaming, which there is a lot to dislike, without painting a false picture of the past to solely suit your stance.
@Clytorial_Impact developers at least trying to release a finished game. "Sell now finish later" mindset didn't exist back then.
@Dalamar Yeah and its currently May with the parkour update dropping tomorrow as promised.
@DennisReynolds thanks, ad somehow ate parkour paragraph.
The parkour, while it was cool, did feel a little, how could I say, lacking in the mechanic department, so I'm glad to see Ubi is addressing it in this patch.
@Dalamar I wouldn't expect much improvement from it though as the game world wasn't built around these new moves. Its a nice inclusion i guess but for me rather pointless if the world can't take advantage of it.
@gamer153 While I agree with you about the state of modern gaming (and I mostly disagree about how the past was), it's on you if you did buy this game at launch.
There is absolutely no reason to buy any game at launch nowadays, especially an AAA game and most specifically a single-player one, when you can get it at a big discount with all the content added and the bugs smoothed out in a few months.
I really don't get how people can still spend 70-80$/€ for a game when they know, without any kind of doubt, they will get a worse experience than if they wait just a bit. Aren't there enough games to play that you can't wait?
@Jey887
This is the optimal path, yes.
@Olmaz
Sadly, no.
I limit my game scope to very specific titles and franchises.
This is another opportunity: to just wait a couple months before initial purchase.
Still no option to change time and season😒
Inventory bug fixed
and i just dont understand why there are complaints about fixes being released. If you dont like the game, just dont play it. do something else
@gamer153 Really, you have no backlog, no weird hole in your selective game collection to fill with an older game?
May I ask what your tastes in game are to be that selective you have nothing else to play when a new Assassin's Creed comes out? (no sarcasm, I'm genuinely curious, I love to learn how people approach the hobby differently)
@Olmaz the thing is, in this ideal world where no one buys games at release any more, there are also no game studios left to make any games because no one will buy them
I read that first comment and just knew how every subsequent comment would go 🤣
I swear, nostalgia ruins so many things for people and they don’t even realize it!
Fun fact: The famous Super Mario Bros. and Konami/Contra codes are both glitches. So no, games have never been released glitch-free.
@Ravix Please, that's a weak argument : you have to buy buggy expensive games at launch or gaming is done. Really?
First, there always will be launch day buyers : the misinformed, the addicted, the loyalists, the average buyer, etc... So the risk of no one buying games at launch is null. And even if a large number of customers were to shy away from launch day purchase, you'd find out that suddenly, AAA games could in fact launch in a stable state for 60$€.
Then, and this was my point, I disagree with a knowledgeable gamer buying a game at launch when it's buggy, lacking content and exprensive, as they can wait a few months and enjoy a cheaper, fuller and less buggy game. If you so buy at launch nowadays, you've knowingly bought an incomplete buggy mess at full price, so you should stop complaining and start waiting for deep sales.
Awesome news, I’m 70 hours into the game & about 40% through the game. A lot of people will rip into this game-but for me it’s pure fun. So much to do, I definitely get my moneys worth. Also great contrast with both protagonists.
@gamer153 i get the sentiment. I am still waiting on Outlaws to be finished. It's even worse w Ubisoft. Like I can reliably just wait for the 60 fps patch to hit the Far Cry and AC games I haven't played.
Oh man, I missed the issue of seeing giant NPC in towns, the game could have been Attack of the Titans.
@Dalamar I dunno mate, I grew up playing The Sims, Tropico, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon, Civilization etc and they had DLC. This idyllic past never truly existed, it used to be seen as a massive negative that console games had to be recalled to update them rather than just installing an update. Would people rather we went back to mailing developers and getting a floppy disc sent out in a month or two?
@nessisonett yes please.
@nessisonett I suspect some would prefer this method. Because nostalgia is a helluva drug!
Great update for the 20 people still playing the game 😏
@Boxmonkey it's the second best selling game of the year in the USA.
So expedition 33 sold 3.3 million copies and this is 3.3gb ,and if you add and then multiply those numbers you get 666 eventually , end of days confirmed
@Boxmonkey 20 people still play assassins creed?!?
/s
@lazarus11 you might be on to something here. Might have just cracked the Da Vinci code.
@ChrisDeku 10k players on steam and 25k owners on psn profiles paints a drastically different picture. Every statement they’ve released about the sales of this game comes with lots of qualifying criteria.
@Boxmonkey those sales figures are from Circana, the official provider of the USA sales charts. It’s the second best selling game of the year in the USA, that’s a fact.
We already know that Steam sales are not an important part of Assassin’s creed’s total sales potential. That’s like quoting PlayStation charts to determine how well Farming Simulator did.
On PS-Timetracker the number of registered accounts on that site to have played the game is 148% more than Expedition 33 for comparison.
@Boxmonkey Also, what’s the point of the 25k owners on PSN profiles stat? I just looked and that’s more than Oblivion Remastered, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II(150% more) etc. It’s 6k less than Monster Hunter Wilds which sold 10.1m units.
@gamer153 sir, Ar Tonelico 2 on PS2 has some error translation and bugs that made it almost impossible to beat the final-not final boss Raki unless you're willing to do a ton of hooplas.
So that old flawless era where games doesn't have bugs and always work like a charm is never exist. You need to wake up from your false nostalgia dream and accept the reality.
Bought the Dead By Daylight bundle as god damn they went hard on the armour designs.
Still no difficulty increase? Between the wrecking ball and the shadow, even on highest difficulty, combat and stealth feels to OP. Do enjoy the targeted attacks against you with ninja or bandits attacking randomly, Back to my 4x4 feline mount.
I don't know about you guys, but I had a lot of fun with assassins creed shadows. I also had a great time with Star Wars Outlaws as well, sure Ubisoft games got some issues but overall there games are actually really fun to play.. I know its cool to hate on Ubisoft for (reasons) But they actually been nailing it lately with, Shadows, Outlaws, Prince of Persia, Avatar... Its a shame ppl bashing on Ubisoft for (reasons). But for me They've released a lot of bangers in the past year, its to bad gamers cant see past the hate.
@gamer153 Judging by the comment you either to young to remember the real problems that went along with enjoying the hobby back in the day. Most ppl seem to forget how crappy it kind of was playing videos back then compared to now.. I remember buying Super Mario 3 for almost 100 bucks back then (adjusted for inflation 190 bucks) great game but not worth that price. It was niche hobby then not a lot of people played video games it was considered a children's hobby.
Now a days gaming has never been better, this current generation has so many awesome games to play, even for free on your phone. you can also experience full size digital worlds that you can waste hours and hours in and all for the price of a ticket to the movies... Who cares if some of those open worlds games might have some bugs in them, compared to back then they are leagues ahead in terms of quality and price.
If you ask me gaming has never been better.
So stop looking at the past with rose tinted glasses and start praising the current gaming landscape today, with its patches and hotfixes as well.
