Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games was apparently working on an unannounced PS6 and PS5 game based on the Blade Runner universe — but the project has now been cancelled.
According to a fresh scoop from Insider Gaming, the title entered pre-production back in September of last year, and the plan was to get everything up and running here in 2025. It was targeting an eventual 2027 release window, and as alluded, the team had its eyes on current and next-gen consoles.
It was reportedly called Blade Runner: Time to Live, and it was to feature a cinematic story paired with third-person, action adventure gameplay. Set in the year 2065, you'd play as a the last remaining Blade Runner — a character called So-Lange.
It all sounds pretty promising on paper, so why was it cancelled? Well, Insider Gaming says that production company Alcon Entertainment is potentially to blame. Alcon is the current rights holder for everything Blade Runner, but its reasons for shutting the project down — late last year — are unclear.
It's obviously a huge shame that this one was canned; a franchise like Blade Runner, from the perspective of a studio like Supermassive, certainly sounds intriguing. Having said that, it's clear that the development cycle was only just kicking into gear — so the hope is that nothing of too much value has been lost.

All that work will be lost like...tears...in the rain.
This is a real shame, there's so much that could have been done with the material. They are probably too busy suing Warner Bros/Tesla and Elon Musk for allegedly using AI-generated imagery that mimicked Blade Runner. They also had a case dismissed against Peugeot over a failed promotional partnership for Blade Runner. They do a lot to protect the IP but not enough to actually expand it. I don't know if it was made official but they are working with Amazon at the moment too for a Blade Runner 2099 series, they may have shifted their resources to that project.
So long, So-Lange 😆. In all fairness, never like to see hard times on decent studios, hope they find their next project without issue.
Seems crazy and not putting the blame on anyone.
But the amount the game development studio industry has just written off in time and money over the roughly the past 2 years is absolutely staggering. It must be getting near billions.
Just imagine if the correct decisions where made at the beginning we could have had about 5 new massive top quality AAA games out of all that wasted time and money at least.
I wonder what's the released/cancelled ratio for AA/AAA games this past decade. And how many were cancelled without the public even hearing about it.
Reading PS6 game just triggers me in the wrong way. I love my PS5 and it's games but in no way do I feel like buying a new PlayStation consoles in the next couple of years.
What a fast turn around that would've been! 3 years from pre-production to finish??
@1UP-HUSKY same. I think I'll bite with the PS6 Portable thing but not looking to get rid of my PS5 at least until 2030
Isn't someone else making a Blade Runner game, too? I remember reading an article on Push Square about one, but I don't think Supermassive Games was the developer.
The ps6 isn’t coming until 2028 not 2027 Sony themselves keeping saying that. I think the ps6 probably end up coming out late 2028.
Love it when unannounced games are cancelled it's like it never happened.
The unannounced game I was developing for the PS7 has been cancelled. Luckily not much work had been done on it so not much time wasted.
@Bentleyma you mean the one that's in development at Annapurna? Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth. I am also looking forward to that!
@Bentleyma Annapurna announced they were making it nearly two years ago but I don't know if they still are after a lot of the workforce left.
Blade Runner Labyrinth I believe it's called.
A damn shame having this cancelled. I enjoyed the expansion of the blade runner world. Of course Denis Villeneuve's sequel and the anime series on crunchyroll was pretty good as well.
I bet it was too cinematic with not enough gameplay, like all their other games
Supermassive just doesn't have the sauce in my opinion, so I ain't exactly sad about this, just as long as no one loses their job over it
