Ruiner developer Reikon Games is giving PS5 players the chance to sample its next action game Metal Eden in the form of a demo, available to download now on the PS Store.
The full title is set to launch on 6th May 2025, but you can try the first two missions now. The whole experience is made up of eight missions, so you're actually getting free access to a quarter of the game. There's also a speedrun challenge associated with the playable teaser, with the fastest times taking a cut of a $1,000 prize pool.

"Metal Eden presents an adrenaline-fueled sci-fi FPS that explores a world where humanity's consciousness has transcended the flesh, now residing within robots," is the pitch in a press release.
"With 8 unique missions and a handcrafted universe setting that embraces the cybernetic dimension of life, the game thrills players into an artificial world, where they'll dive into in cybernetic warfare, control a powerful hyper unit, and uncover the mysteries of a lost paradise."
If it's anything like RUINER, then players should be in for a good time. We gave Reikon Games' debut game an 8/10 back in 2017, calling it "beautiful, brutal, and terrifying. With some impressive art direction, great music, and a wealth of immensely satisfying combat systems, Ruiner offers essential top-down gameplay, and comes highly recommended."

Looks kinda awsome
Sadly, the demo isn't in a good state. The frame rate was all over the place. The most glaring issue though is the camera acceleration. It's absolutely abysmal with no way to turn it off. Honestly, camera acceleration shouldn't be in FPS games to begin with. Hopefully they get this sorted out before release.
I had tons of fun with Ruiner and i wish they make a sequel.
But this looks fun, like a mixed of Doom + Ghostrunner. I'll try the demo later.
I played the demo for a little bit and I’m curious why people here don’t like it. Not saying it’s the next coming but I, by no means, think it’s bad.
Cover art looked interesting. Then I pressed play on the YouTube video and saw a first person shooter. Shut the video off and interest dropped to -10474.
Thanks for pointing out that this is from the Devs behind Ruiner. That was quite the overlooked gem, and that's coming from someone who doesn't care for games with an isometric view.
Looks fun to me! I like fun!
Honestly I've been sitting at the PS5 and feeling nothing recently, so I hope a dumb game about shooting robots can help with that.
While having a Retroid 5 has been amazing, it's made me realize that we really have lost something compared to sixth and seventh gen. If I could articulate that better, I'd write things that were worth a damn, and not internet comments, lol.
@AhmadSumadi wow. Same happen whan I see TPP games
@YoureTooSlowBro Came here to say the same thing. The demo in its current state is totally unplayable. The framerate on quality mode isn't steady (playing on Pro); and there's some serious dithering too. And of course, there's no option to alter turn ramp up time. Also I'm pretty sure the FOV doesn't actually change when you alter it. No option to turn off egregious motion blur either. I think they just left out a load of settings.
Hopefully it'll get patched (can't believe we live in a world where demos need patching but here we are), cos it could be a fun little game.
@JoDoMac The game itself isn't bad per se. Just that the demo is totally broken.
From what I played last night it felt like an inferior Doom clone with a sci-fi aesthetic. Certainly not unplayable but nowhere near as satisfying as id Software's recent offerings.
When the frame rate is even stuttering in the trailer then that doesn’t bode well.
Ruiner was surprisingly awesome, checked out the Demo for this and yeh this super clunky and just not fun to play
@YoureTooSlowBro Thanks for reporting this; I was wondering what kind of state the PS5 version was in; all the reporting I’ve read is about the PC version.
What's camera acceleration? Frame rate was fine - except for when I was using the minigun - as it's the demo I can let that slide until I find out if it's fixed in the full game. What definitely needs fixing is being able to remap control buttons. Dodge is impossible to use in combat as it currently sits. Gameplay loop is fun, gunplay satisfying - we could do with a few more single player FPSs. Provided they fix the above I think it's worth a look but I've got concerns about the length especially with the new Doom so close on its heels.
@PuppetMaster Totally agree about rather having a sequel. Or at least something along those lines.
Ruiner is easily one of my favourite indie games of all time. A masterpiece imo. The feedback doesn't sound great on the demo so I'll leave the demo for now, it's a shame. I can't say I'm not disappointed that they're going into fps territory.
I played demo And it attracted me.
Finished mission one in the demo and loved it. Not usually a big FPS guy, but loved the vibes of this game, similar to Ruiner. Great gameplay systems, great enemy design, fun platforming. Framerate on my Pro was just fine. The camera acceleration does take some getting used to, but not a dealbreaker; hopefully they can patch in a way to turn it on/off. I will definitely be buying Metal Eden. 👍🏼👍🏼
Edit: Finished the demo, and it definitely has issues. The zipline section in mission two had pretty terrible frame drops, and even crashed on me. Glad they delayed this.
