Not content with having just launched a new song pack, the team at Kluge Interactive has announced a new update to the endlessly enjoyable Synth Riders. Following the release of the Current Wave music pack last month, Kluge has seen fit to release a new update for the Challenges+ mode.
In this update, players can look forward to dealing with a series of obstacles previously tied to the multiplayer battle mode, where you try to sabotage the other player through all sorts of trickery. But now, these power-ups have been unshackled from the multiplayer mode and are now in the hands of the developers to add to the curated "Challenges+" mode.
Kluge will pick which powerups to pair with which challenges, but their placement within a tune will be decided algorithmically. The power-ups you can look forward to dealing with are:
- Invaderz
- Alien invaders target you with missiles
- Warp
- The gameplay stretches and speeds up
- Embiggen
- Notes get much larger
- Minimize
- Notes get much smaller
- Prismatic
- Changes notes into rainbows
- Vanish
- Notes turn invisible, and the rails become single notes
- Random Colors
- Mixes up the colors of notes and items
And in even better news, the update is free and available now. Is this enough to get you to boot the game back up? Sound off in the comments section below.

It's a game I return to rather regularly to evoke those wild nights at the old Andromeda, Obsession and Dreamscape events.
Is this an advert?
It’s good to see more PSVR2 news on Push Square in recent months. I know the user base is a lot smaller than base PS5/Pro users, but it is a fantastic Sony product that works with the aforementioned consoles to bring incredible new experiences in gaming.
It is certainly deserving of news updates and articles like this. I get that VR doesn’t interest everyone, some are priced out, others see it as an undesirable or unnecessary peripheral. Personally, I believe VR is on the cusp of becoming a more mainstream way of playing video games and we should show support when developers put out a VR game, mode, DLC or patch update in the same way we do for “flat” tv games.
