Atari has announced yet another retro series to be brought back in modern style. Breakout Beyond revives the classic brick-busting arcade title, and it's coming to PS5 and PS4.
Developed by Choice Provisions, the team behind the Bit.Trip series, Breakout Beyond's main point of difference is its orientation. Instead of playing vertically, the game moves horizontally as you bounce a ball back among the blocks to destroy them.
Rather than clearing every single brick from the screen, you're looking to build up lengthy combos and eventually reach the end goal of each stage.
As your combo grows, the effects and music will grow wilder, and special power-ups can be discovered to give you the upper hand and create even crazier sights and sounds.
The game contains 72 levels, two-player co-op, and an endless mode for those looking to test their skills.
Breakout Beyond is scheduled to arrive later in 2025. Are you looking forward to this flashy arcade title? Tell us in the comments section below.

Yeah, I'll definitely buy this.
Nice! Lunar Lander Beyond was a good bit of fun, so I’m happy to see this series continuing.
I'll be getting this but on PC so I rotate my screen and play it vertically
For anyone curious (certainly no one is), this game was actually announced for the intellivision Amico years ago. When Atari bought out intellivision recently, all of the Amico's planned games went silent. Glad to see the most promising of them all is getting a chance to shine removed from that debacle.
Maybe this means we could see Earthworm Jim from Atari at some point, too.
@carlos82 now you’re cooking with portals!
Guessing this will be different than Breakout Recharged?
Breakout is just not the same without paddles. Would be great if Sony would implement this in their next gen controller (they won’t of course)
The last Breakout game they made was pretty bad but this seems a lot more promising. Still prefer these games on PC though due to the paddle control being a lot easier with a mouse.
If you like brick breakers def try out Tri-Breaker, great fun 👍
@Jrs1 Shatter is another good and often overlooked brick breaking title.
@JayJ Yeah i got the remastered one, good fun 👍
I’m really surprised Sony Nintendo or Microsoft do not offer a mouse controller for games like these.
To think this started with a crowdfunding scam called Intellivision Amico.
