Critically Maligned 90s Street Fighter Animated Series to Make Shock Blu-ray Comeback 1

Capcom’s crappy 90s Street Fighter animated series is making a surprise comeback, courtesy of boutique Blu-ray publisher Discotek.

The re-release, which will feature all 26 original episodes, will be preserved using a format the publisher is dubbing SD-BD. This basically means that the content will be presented in its original resolution, without any upscaling. However, it points out that features like subtitles will look nicer.

The Blu-ray will come in VHS-style beat-up packaging, and a reversible cover will enable you to opt for a label inspired by the original Super Nintendo release of Street Fighter 2.

Extras in the bundle will include the original intro storyboards, scanned and synced to the theme music. You’ll also find an art gallery and commentary for every episode from YouTubers like Maximilian Dood.

In other news, the same company is also re-releasing the Darkstalkers cartoon series which first aired in the US, and is not to be confused with the Japanese OVA. This features 13 episodes, with extras still to be announced.

Discotek is on a bit of a tear this year, as it’s also plotting an Angel Heart Blu-ray in 2025, with all 50 episodes presented in HD, and Blu-ray versions of the two live action Nana movies.
