State of Play Announced, Covering More Than 15 PS5, PSVR2 Games

Currently not interested in Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin but hoping for maybe some Wolverine news.

Maybe this is where they announce that support for Suicide Squad ends.

Better be a good PSVR2 game. I really like the device but it seems Sony pushes this thing even less then vita. Currently, it’s saved by a large amount of backlog (in my case, still need to buy synapse and light brigade) and GT7.

Socom 2 UHD UBERREMAKE or bust.

Considering the last few state of plays, my expectations are rock bottom, but I still can't help being excited about this.

Stellar Blade looks super intriguing, I really hope that game sticks the landing.

Hoping for a sony first party surprise as it's been VERY long since we've had that, but just seems so unlikely

Finally 🤩 glad psvr 2 games will be there aswell.

Seriously though I'm really looking forward to this, especially for the PSVR2 games and if the rumours are true it'll be a good one

One detail I find interesting is that Herman Hulst is writing the blog post for this. I don't think he's ever done that for a State of Play before. Usually, my expectations for these are rock bottom, but I'm looking forward to this one if we're getting good looks at Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade. Plus, I've seen some of the games that are rumored to be there, and I'm VERY intrigued by these if they do make appearances.

All those current shows with only or mostly only games that release soon are so boring.
Yes, I will play Stellar Blade, Ronin etc. I don't need any more material for known games. I want to get hyped about upcoming unknown titles.
Anyway, still good to have a SoP.
So hope still there will be an actual huge showcase event later in the year.
Unfortunately all those shows more and more are only for the uninformed mainstream.

Finally! Stellar Blade! I am now already excited for it! That is seriously all I've wanted to hear something about so anything else is just icing on the cake.

Some first-party news would be great, but personally, I’m just hoping that Stellar Blade ends up as good to play as it is to look at. The thought of a new-gen answer to Bayonetta is amazing, so its been at the top of my personal wishlist ever since it was first revealed.

Not expecting much but would nice to see the Spider-Man 2 DLC get an official announcement.

@OldGamer999 I don't think barely anyone cares. This is a State of play not a Showcase and the line up already looks good, now we'll get some more release dates and I'd imagine 1st party will be reserved for a Showcase or another State of play in September.

I think it would be weird if Sony didn't have a State of Play for Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth specifically right before it launches. They did it for the previous game and tend to do it for all their biggest launches. It would also be weird to have another State of Play so soon, but after so much silence, they definitely need to up the cadence. Monthly sounds about right.

About time we got one. My expectations aren't high after how lackluster last year's showings were but hopefully this will be better. At least Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade have been mentioned which is a good start, been wanting to see more of those, especially Stellar Blade which went quiet all of last year until 3 days before 2024 where they said it's not coming out (pretends to be shocked)

@MrMagic The cadence for Sony's States of Play are all over the place. We've gone months without one (the last was in September) and they've done 2 in less than a month before. It's possible there will be a dedicated Final Fantasy VII Rebirth state of play in February, but I doubt it.

PS5 is currently the least fave PlayStation console I've owned. Games have been so slow to come.

Resident evil remastered.
Metal gear solid remastered.

Xbox had a showcase with 4 games (and surprising 5th) and everybody lost their mind how much content there was.
Sony does 15 games, everybody whines how there is nothing to play and console is an unbelievable disappointment.

Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin info is going to be amazing, excited/interested in both of those games. Hopefully maybe some Judas info and maybe Little Devil Inside? Final Fantasy Rebirth will probably be in their and Granblue Fantasy Relink will probably get it's trailer in their(as it should).

Should be a good State of Play with a game for everyone, not expecting a bunch of First Party stuff. I don't think anybody should be thinking about that.

Hell yes! I have been waiting for Stellar Blade for a while. This should be a great show regardless if they show any new info from first party studios.

How much you wanna bet its just 15 games that are already announced, and if there is something new don't expect to hear anything new from Sonys first parties.

People should keep their expectations about first-party announcements well in check. This is a State of Play, not a Showcase. Traditionally, these just offer a look at bigger titles that were already announced, plus maybe some smaller new games.

@Sanquine the big buzz is it will be a Metro VR game title subtitled Awakenings. Deep Silver made a deal with Vertigo to bring 5 of their IPs to headsets, so it's not far fetched. Fingers crossed.

I predict a rescue mission remastered for psvr2 and half life alyx port.probaby see 3-4 VR games.

@Rudy_Manchego The Last of US Part 1 remaster remaster already came out, it's a PS5 remaster of a PS4 remaster of a PS3 game.

All I really needed out of this was a proper look at Rise of The Ronin, everything else is just a bonus.

There was a weird 'leak' that points towards maybe a new JUDAS trailer and other stuff... so fingers crossed

@Cikajovazmaj Apparently, Sony can't do anything right according to some people. They had a showcase that showed off 34 games last year and it was called a disaster. Whereas, every show Xbox does people are like "Woo, Xbox is back!" and then Xbox continues to disappoint for eternity.

@Ken_Kaniff How about we get some release dates and maybe some gameplay for what's already announced instead of announcing more games that are nowhere close to release. Seeing games that are still years away is pretty stupid.

@Ken_Kaniff Good for you. 👍 A lot of people want the release dates, for games like Stranding, Stellar and to see some gameplay of Concord, also that's how Sony usually acquire some of their 1st party studios. They partner, fund and publish and in some cases buy the studio in the end. If all you care about is the fact that Sony actually owns the studio then I guess you're not much of a gamer but that's okay, lmao.

Not that you'll care because it seems you're happy with whatever you get, but we are going into year 4 of the PS5 gen and over half of Sonys studios haven't even released one game. I dont know about you, but I don't buy one console to just play games I could play anywhere else eventually. So yes me personally I'm not happy with Sonys output atm, but to each his own. 🤷‍♂️

An extended look at Stellar Blade makes me think it's releasing in April/May. Sony's extended looks at games during State of Play in the past have been for games releasing within a few months later (e.g. Rise of the Ronin, Suicide Squad before the State of Play reception delayed it, Deathloop).

@Sanquine In the same boat! Just picked up Light Brigade and Synapse on the list too to play. Got bored with what was out there and saving a few known solid titles for this lull in releases. Horizon VR hasn't been installed yet either...

@Ken_Kaniff Yes I'm one of those people who doesn't really care what building games are made in as long as they are good.

There's also plenty of time left for them to show off what 1st party has been working on later in the year. If they show too much at once the games they've funded may get lost in the fray. Sony's 1st party has the potential to steal the spotlight away from some of the studio's they have partnered with and funded. It's wise to split them up and space them out.

Can't wait to see more of Stellar Ass. Hopefully, it's a big showing and yet tight and compact with details.

Legend of Dragoon remake remaster or any form would be my dream I would even take Dark Cloud or Heavenly Sword remake or part 2.

Optimistic as always, leading to disappointment. I think as it doesn't say "first party studios" anywhere then we won't see any major announcements there.

@Sanquine The rumour is one of the PSVR2 titles is a new Metro VR game called Metro Awakening, so fairly big news if so. Could be a hybrid title apparently, which makes sense commercially.
Would be nice to have a new Astro Bot announcement too though.

@Ken_Kaniff, does the game have SIE or PS Studios on the box? Then that game IS NOT 3rd party. Sony will publish at least 4 games this year, if not more.
Games like Until Dawn, Death Stranding, Nioh, Detroit Become Human can be considered Sony games, even if not made by a Subsidiary.
It's always been like this, even in the PS1 era. It's just that people are jumping on some hate train.

Ps5 is turning out to be the poorest Playstation console ever in terms of quality games. With xbox sales in free fall, it will be just a matter of time before players lose faith in the playstation brand as well.

Though l like I said, the rumours are it would be a hybrid game as they have done with the Resi Evil games and makes the most sense. Fans without VR still get to play it but the VR owners get the best experience, plus they get revenue from both.

I haven't heard anything about it but all I know from owning a psvr and currently a meta 3 and played psvr2 if it dosnt really move I can play for mabey an hour before I die.
If it does move even if it's blink movement with all the anti sickness stuff on (played abit if half life alux at a friend's house but not chance I could even complete that game) or something like GT7 I can play mabey 20 mins before I have to lay down for awhile because I feel so Ill 🙄.

If I can play it normally though and its not full of gimmicks I'm all in for more metro

I like SoP format by Sony so looking forward to it...I heard rumoured games, but here's what I wish to see there:

I don't expect any brand new game reveals so I won't be disappointed, obviously people should know by now Sony will be saving them for their main showcases.

Just give me the Stellar Blade gameplay and release date, and show some detailed gameplay of Rise of the Ronin, Death Stranding 2 and Silent Hill 2 then il be happy.

Also, If (pretty big if) they announce Half Life Alyx for the PSVR2 then I will finally have a reason to buy one.

I'm already interested with an extended look of Stellar Blade being announced as part of it. It was annoyingly absent from everything last year, so it's nice to see that.

On the fence with Rise of the Ronin at the moment as I don't like Souls-like games, but knowing this is going to be made more accessible than other Team Ninja games has me interested in seeing how it turns out at least.

Hopefully the rest of the games aren't just second or third party titles though and we actually get something that we didn't know about already from PlayStation themselves. At the very least, I know it won't be a total bust for me like a lot of their shows over the last year or so.

My money is on a remaster/remake.

@CharlieChooChoo That's what I'm saying. I get that they don't want to make an Uncharted/Tomb Raider clone, Indiana Jones just feels wrong in first person. I'll still play it as I'm a huge Indy fan and a big fan of MachineGames, but I can't deny that my heart definitely sank in my chest when seeing that the game is first person.

Stellar Blade is one of my most highly anticipated games! Aside from that I am just praying for something- ANYTHING good for PSVR2. C'mon Sony, give me that Astrobot Rescue Mission port! Or show me you know the VR2 exists at all!
My pie in the sky announcement is that FF9 remake but I'd say thats farfetched this close to FF7R.

I've always wanted a new SOCOM game (but made so it plays like the Operation Flashpoint games) and then I read this recently...

"Prior to its closure, Zipper Interactive were working on two unannounced titles for the PlayStation 4 before both projects were cancelled once the closing was complete. One was another entry in the SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs series, and the other was a first-person shooter meant to be a new IP."

I like shooters but I don't think there's enough realistic shooters (no silly gun camps or outfits etc.)

PS4 Pro is getting much more use at the moment (ESO, for reasons explained elsewhere) so it seems a shame that £500 worth of console is sat there, looking grotesque by the side of the TV (Mcbazel black plates have helped somewhat)

Release date for SH2 remake and Snake eater remake as there at stated to be release this year.
Rise of the ronin gameplay would be really nice to see as I love how it looks so far.

@TrickyDicky99 Ah I can see the confusion. You see The Last of Us Remastered was a PS4 revision of the PS3 title The Last of Us whilst the Last of Us Part 1 Remastered Remastered is a remaster of PART 1. The Part 1 makes all the difference here

Theres 3 yrs left on the ps5 life cycle and nothing worth buying it for unless u like god of war. Ps6 just entered the design phase and will be out either 2027 or 2030 which makes ps5 just a bump in the road. Sony needs more wins before ps5 dies
