Final Fantasy Tactics PS1 PlayStation

Final Fantasy Tactics remains, essentially, the benchmark for the tactical genre it popularised back in 1997 when it was first released on PS1. We did get War of the Lions on PSP back in 2007, but even that is well long in the tooth at this point. Players have been wishing, sometimes begging, for a properly modern remaster for years at this point, all of it in vain.

In a brief, punishing tweet, Final Fantasy series creator Yasumi Matsuno dashed hopes of a remaster while simultaneously directing an unsuspecting fan request to Square Enix customer support and not him; thank you very much: "Currently, there are no plans for remastering. Also, you have to convey your request to SQEX, not me. Thank you for your understanding."

It's especially interesting, as a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster was mentioned in the infamous NVIDIA leak, which has largely been proven correct with the passing of time. Not to be discouraged, we can't help but note that Matsuno doesn't say anything about remakes, and we'll be grimly hanging onto that potential possibility until it either happens or we expire, whichever comes first.

What do you think of Matsuno's casual crushing of this long-hoped-for dream? Find ways to cope in the comments section below.
