With Street Fighter 6 out in the wild, Mortal Kombat 1 is the next big fighter fans have on the horizon, and director Ed Boon is teasing some impending gameplay at Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest. If you missed the game's gory cinematic reveal, check it out here.
Anticipation is reaching a fever pitch, with preorders through the roof on PlayStation, so we have no doubts many will be tuning in to Geoff's big show for the venerable fighter's gameplay debut alone. Mortal Kombat is purportedly a beast, weighing in at over 100 GB at launch, before the addition of the inevitable-and-konstant stream of Kombat Packs.

As much as I'm interested in the next MK game I'm not very hyped about the story because every one of them just keeps getting more and more stupid. Then again I guess that can be said about all fighting games.
Would have much preferred Injustice 3 and if there's no Cassie Cage (and I doubt there will be) I'm gonna be pretty disappointed but overall I'm excited to see how the game looks.
I can't remember which MK it was but my favourite was the one where you can create your own character, it also has the biggest roster of character to choose from. The blocking mechanics was perfect and the character creator mode was fun. I hope this reboot brings both back
Should be a fun time even if you're not that big of a Mortal Kombat fan, like me.

I hope they are going with something that at least looks a bit fresh and doesn't look exactly like the 3 previous games.
I notice on the PSN description it says 2D fighting game. Wonder if they are scaling back the movement.
Yeah I'm looking forward to this, I've been really enjoying Street Fighter 6 and now have an adapter for my arcade stick to work with PS5 games as I'm not keen on the Dualsense for such games. So MK1 and then Tekken 8 are both games I'm looking forward to getting as well

Not played UMK11 for a while. In my mind I remember it as 3D but yeah guess it is fixed 2D. Ignore what I said then. I've just woke up.

It's a great year for fighting games. First Street Fighter 6, then MK1 and Tekken 8 on the horizon. I'm looking forward to Tekken 8 the most, but I'm curious to see gameplay of MK1.
I've been trying to get into fighters forever, but I never seem to be able to invest enough time in them to get any good. I got sort of into Injustice 2 and played that a bit, but then I left it for too long and now I'm back to being useless.
Didn't stop me from buying Mortal Kombat X and, later, Mortal Kombat 11, thinking "this time I'm going to get really stuck in"... (still haven't gotten around to it, btw)
So, knowing all that, I will probably still buy Mortal Kombat 1 and this time... this time!
@Dange 9, X & 11 are all 2D, no difference.

@Dange I am pretty sure it means a 2D plane like the last trilogy was. 3D would be more like Tekken or the PS2-era games.

I’m really hyped for this, MK11 is fantastic, still play it now. Spent about £25 on characters!! Rambo, Robocop, Joker, etc. Rambo is my fav MK11 character. An Scorpion of coarse, he’s my long term fav.
@Juanalf what a one on one, 2D fighting game with special moves an fatalities? Are you one of those who buys Fifa every year then moans it’s the same as last years? 22 men runnin about on grass tryin to kick a ball of air into a net? 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
