MLB The Show 23 Cover Athlete Reveal PS5 PS4 PlayStation

You can set your watch to the next MLB The Show game, and worryingly it’s that time of the year again! San Diego Studio has started teasing the next title in its annual baseball simulation series, ahead of a release later this year. The cover athlete will be unveiled on 30th January, 2023, with Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez looking like the likeliest candidate right now.

With Spring Training set to get underway in a couple of weeks for most major teams, and the season opener scheduled for 30th March, 2023, we’d expect the game to launch in the first week of April. It’ll be particularly interesting to see if the release is once again farmed out to Xbox Game Pass, forcing PlayStation players to stump up the full asking price for a third consecutive year.

It’ll also be fascinating to see whether PC is added as an additional platform this season. MLB The Show 21 saw Xbox consoles added to the release roster, with Nintendo Switch joining last year. But there’s clearly a huge untapped market on PC, and with Sony bringing many of its major first-party titles to the likes of Steam, we’d be surprised if it wasn’t added to the mix.

While the series is consistently excellent, we can’t shake the feeling that things have been stagnating just a touch in recent years. Hopefully new-gen platforms will get a much-needed visual makeover in 2023, and we’re also eager to see Road to the Show get some overdue TLC after a couple of bum years for the all-important single player mode. But first, that cover reveal!
