Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed PS5 PlayStation 5

Who you gonna call for another 4v1 asymmetrical multiplayer game? Illfonic, the developer of Predator: Hunting Grounds and Friday the 13th, of course. After a smattering of leaks, the Colorado company has confirmed that Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will launch this year – on 18th October, to be precise. The PS5 and PS4 holiday release schedule is all of a sudden beginning to grow! Pre-orders will open tomorrow, including early access to the Slimer, a custom Thrower and Proton Pack, and some special clothing colourways.

“Form a team with up to three other Ghostbusters to track down Ghosts haunting a number of locales,” the blurb teases. “Sniff out paranormal activity with the P.K.E. Meter and charge it to unleash a short-range pulse disabling Ghost movement. Unveil hidden rifts acting as the Ghost’s spawn points and teleportation portals, and destroy them. Use the powerful Particle Throwers to capture the Ghost, deploy a trap, and wrangle them into it before they escape!”

Of course, the Ghost will put up a fight. Working alone, you’ll roam “stages like the Museum, an abandoned Prison, and other spooky locations, including a new one to be revealed at Gamescom”. You’ll be able to haunt objects and, naturally, slime those pesky Ghostbusters! “Move the rifts to keep them guessing, summon minions to make an escape, and show the Ghostbusters they should be afraid of this Ghost,” the summary adds.

One neat feature is that you’ll be able to explore the franchise’s famous Firehouse, which will act as a hub for you and your friends. “Personalise your Ghostbuster’s equipment at the workbench and test out the changes with some target practice in the neighbouring alley,” the overview continues. “Visit Ray’s Occult Books to enter the spectral realm and customise the Ghost’s loadout, skin, and various otherworldly options.”

It’s worth pointing out that, while this is predominantly a multiplayer game, there will be bot options – either to populate missing players or to enable you to go Ghostbusting alone. We wished other asymmetrical games like Dead by Daylight would add bots, as it’s almost impossible to get to grips with new Killers in that game these days.

Still, we like a bit of Ghostbusters, so this one is on our wishlist. It’s worth remembering that Ghostbusters VR has also been confirmed for PSVR2, meaning that Ghostbusters games are getting a bit of a renaissance on PS5.
