PSVR2 PlayStation VR2 Sony 1

Sony had suggested earlier in the week that we would find references to PSVR2 in future PS5 firmware updates, and it’s already beginning. A beta for the new-gen console’s latest system software rolled out earlier today, with folder functionality and 1440p support. It’s supposed to be confidential, but that hasn’t stopped eager fans from sharing references to Sony’s new headset within the Settings menus.

In truth, there’s not a whole lot to get excited about here, although the references themselves do help the new hardware to feel that little bit closer. Under the Accessories tab, the beta refers to the new PSVR2 Sense Controllers in the Communication Method tab. Presumably there’s new code in the console itself which makes pairing the motion pads possible as well.

“PSVR2 game developers will begin to access the latest user experience for PSVR2 in a new system software release coming soon as part of the ongoing development,” senior staff product manager Yasuo Takahashi said. It’s possible that this new firmware update also includes many of the key UI features that Sony announced earlier in the week, like the see-through view, although obviously you’ll need access to the hardware itself in order to test them.

Exciting times, though!
