UK Sales Charts: Horizon Forbidden West Back on Top, 95% of Copies Sold Were PS5

Sony games got long legs.

I’m now dubious on purchasing games because of the not knowing whether they will suddenly show up on PS Plus. Wonder if others do the same and it dangers sales?

I think Microsoft have nailed it by detailing exactly what’s coming to the service so you can decide what to buy with the knowledge you won’t get it free a month later.

@itsfoz Looking at the sales people dont agree and they where quite clear games wont be on plus day one? Whats hard to get these games wont release on there in a year if they would so that then they would be stupid.

Microsoft wants to cut out the stores and put everything right in their pockets killing off any competition so they can let you pay what they want.

Microsoft is not there for the customer like some want to believe. If you listen to their bull**** statements you could see what kind of liars they are. We dont want to keep games away from platforms followed the opposite actions.

I wonder if there's a lot of people who only got it because they couldn't get a PS5 without it.
I mean - there are definitely some but I wonder if it could be more than people who waited to play the game on PS5 rather than PS4.

@Flaming_Kaiser All of these games are already out though. For instance, I’m holding off LEGO Star Wars and GT7 as I realistically believe they will come out in next two months. Even if they’re not first day releases, if I think it’ll release within 3 months on the service, I’d still be inclined to hold off buying.

Considering the upgrade from PS4-PS5 is free, that shows that 95% of gaming purchasers are absolutely clueless.
No wonder Sony keep doing what they do price wise....

I bought a PS5 copy a few days back for £35 on e bay.
Absolutely loving the having never played the original.

@itsfoz I think the newest first party game on the service is over 12 months old though, and Returnal was a relatively lower budget game. When Ratchet & Clank enters the service, that will probably give a solid baseline for future timeframes. Probably 18 months for big AAA first party games.

I love Elden ring and I'm glad for its success, but there is no doubt it seems to have had its big sales. Horizon came out at the same time and those legs are WAY longer. And this is still to come out on pc probably in about 8-9 months earliest.

@ChrisDeku yeah, this is what will be interesting. Third party like LEGO will be under 12 months I would guess. Also would be interesting to see if Sony move the goalposts dependent on success of service.

I'm still waiting for any DLC to be announced, I think they waited until summer for HZD, then soon thereafter announced the Complete Ed for the same price in September or October. So actually I guess I'm waiting on the Complete Ed. Though if it isn't announced by Black Friday I'll just get the game, maybe on sale for 1/2 price.

@itsfoz The facts are showing horizon is consistently selling well and this will ALWAYS make more money than putting it on a subscription(already great value) with all those games.

Goes to show if PS5 had more stock UK and worldwide the console would be sky rocketing in sales along with the main games.
Sony must be doing their nuts trying to secure microchips etc.

@itsfoz Nah mate, there are always late arrivals and new additions at the last moment. Like guardians of the galaxey, added after I already bought it.
Its frustrating, but you can never be sure.

@itsfoz I’ve been burned by purchasing a game and then seeing it go onto PS+ and it used to bug me a lot, but it just doesn’t bother me anymore. Now I’m happy for the people who get access to games that I really had fun playing.

Here’s the thing: If you’re willing to wait a few months…or a year…or more to play a specific game that you THINK might show up free on PS+, ok…have fun waiting. In the meantime, that dude who plopped down his $50-$60 to buy Lego Star Wars or GT7 has the game you really want to play. He’s got that game all booted up, and he’s likely playing it online with his friends right now…and he’s probably having an awesome time with it.

To all the people who thought Horizon “Forgotten” West stopped selling after Elden Ring came out; you were completely wrong.

Horizon FW deserves the sales, it is an incredible title from Sony Studios. The production values are astounding for an open world, the gameplay is sublime. Decima engine is elite.

Remember Sony released the new PS5 retail package that came with Horizon bundled in. At one point that was the only version in stock. Or was that a digital copy?

More reason not to bother with the below standard PS4 versions of anything now. Go all out on next gen for all upcoming games and we will all be better for it.

This is because the game is being bundled with the console. The only way I could get a PS5 was with this game bundled, I traded it in straight away, didn't even take it out the wrapper, got half my money back.

I wish sales did not count the ps5 bundle. That does not show people's interest as many people could have bought it just for the ps5. It makes the chart meaningless tbh

@jgrangervikings1 If you only play single player games and always have a backlog then waiting for inclusion in PS Plus or sales makes more sense from a value for money point of view. I can't remember the last time I paid full price for a game on PS to be honest.
Everyone is different and spends their money in different ways. I'll be enjoying some of the PS5 exclusive titles on the new PS Plus.

I'll never understand why the heck sony made it a cross-gen games, most hardcore gamers buy games on new console or hold off buying it unless they have a next-gen console, I don't think it's worth it to make the game cross-gen just for the 5% of ps4 users.

@Flaming_Kaiser As a customer it's our duty to search for a good deals, and for now microsoft gamepass is that good deals. Why spend $70 for cross-gen games that will be ported to pc, and sometimes <still> have mtx like mobile games (like gt7). All company is not your friend, not sony, microsoft, or nintendo.

@paulbuck1996 it sure as hell isn’t worth $70. We beat it in about 12 hours, which was expected. The story doesn’t make sense and there’s very little user input. You’re basically watching a movie.

Thirdly, as I mentioned in my comment in this article, how can we trust sales numbers when the game is bundled in with a console and people have no choice but to buy it. It will clearly inflate the numbers. There is no way you can argue with that logic but hey I guess you can try 😉

@Flaming_Kaiser What are you talking about, there's literally hundreds of games on gamepass, most of them are good and new games, like trek to yomi and tmnt shredder's revenge. Gamepass are the best deal on gaming subscription right now.

@wiiware Again you talk about Horizon Zero Dawn like its a bad deal answer me whats bad about it? I dont give a crap about renting games i dont need another subscription with games that leave the service making it a job finishing games.

@Flaming_Kaiser I'm kind of bored with ubisoft like open world games, especially after elden ring come out, so yeah for me $70 for horizon fw is a bad deals. I'm still interested in playing it when the game discounted to 40-50% though.

@Flaming_Kaiser I bought the first game on it's launch day, after playing it a couple of hours I'm done with it since the resource management is too much. I spend almost the same time between fighting the enemies and collecting resources, ghost of tsushima instant with no collect animation is way better.
