Based on the results to our recent poll, there’ll be little interest in this news, but just as a heads up: August 2021’s free PS Plus games are available to download now. The selection has been largely panned by subscribers, despite Hunter’s Arena: Legends being a brand new title and both Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville and Tennis World Tour 2 attracting reasonable reviews.
In our poll, a whopping 62 per cent of you said the August 2021 PS Plus line-up was a “crap selection”, with a further 71 per cent of you saying you weren’t looking forward to playing any of the titles being offered. Ouch.
The games will be available to download until 7th September, 2021, so you’ve got plenty of time to add them to your library. Will you be giving the trio a try, or are you still irked by the selection? We recommend you check out this month’s PS Now line-up if you’re still irate over the PS Plus offering.

Now, now, don't all rush at once...
Added them to library but know 100% I will never play them.
Why did I do that?
@ankehuber May as well, right?
@ankehuber hunter and collector syndrome it is called
I bet everyone who was crying last week about the “trash” selection will downloaded or add to library.
Fickle.
Plenty of time to not add them to my account then..
@ankehuber
I do it just in case I ever want to sell my account and can say “with 500 PS games” or whatever. Likely never will, but hey, I’ll die at some point.
I know PvZ is written off by many as yet an other online only piece of turd. But trust me, it's not ehat you think. I HATE online games, never got the appeal of games like COD, numerous Battle Royale games or anything else like that, but this game is so light hearted and enjoyable when you play in split screen that sets it apart. Fot the record there's a fairly big offline world to go around and complete tasks in co-op.
@Jacko11
They should add them to their library. Whether they like the games or not, they paid for them. I add every game to my library every month even if I know I'll never play the game.
@Resurrected-X460 completely agree. I bought it months ago for my kids and we love playing it together via split screen.
@get2sammyb back in my home country there's a saying that roughly translates to "you don't inspect the teeth of a gifted horse"... so yes I'll add them to the library
who knows if and when I'll be happy to play these games
BFN is a good game that EA just abused, no more major updates or anything. The game’s only over 1 year old!
I'lll be taking a hard pass on all of these.
I'm sorry, I don't get the whole "add the titles no matter what to your library even if you know you'll never play them" thing. Two commenters above said they do this. Is this a Podcast Beyond thing? Greg Miller and Colin Moriarty would always say this when they hosted the show and I know Colin still says it on Sacred Symbols. It drives me nuts. I'd say this is the definition of digital hoarding.
meh, might give hunters arena a go.
@drk not adding them to avoid cluttering up my library with junk. I know I will never play them even if I do add them.
No thanks. I'd rather keep my game library crap-free. I've got way too many games to play as it is and not enough time so I've become very selective with what I play.
@Jacko11 Not on your nelly.
I’m just gonna sit here and wait on the September announcement
@Gilvin similar to the one here “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth”
Very mediocre selection. I might jump into Arena Legends for 5 minutes but other than that, hard pass.
As for Tennis World Tour, well, if it ain't Virtua Tennis or Top Spin (or even Mario Tennis) it ain't worth your time.
@ORO_ERICIUS Or “digital hoarding” maybe. 😅 And I’m completely guilty of it too. I have hundreds of PS Plus games in my library that I’ll never play, such as Laser Disco Defenders, Gunhouse, and Mighty No. 9. I think I have a problem.
@Philbop LOL was wondering how the heck that translates
from experience most sayings are universal... the literal translation from my home country's version is "to a gifted horse you don't look at its canine teeths" and that one would be impossible to get
Guess they aren’t live in the US yet.
@drk this sounds so dumb tbh mate 😂 just add them and move along
@awp69 yeah we are always significantly behind unfortunately
I cant remember when the last time I actually played, never mind downloaded, a PS+ game on my system. I barely play games online either, just once in a while with a few select friends. Even the reduction in sale prices are non existent anymore. I am on the verge of dropping Plus because it adds no value to me. $70/year rental fee is no longer a good value.
Usually add to library even of I don't think I'll play them. I'm absolutely not doing that this month.
I don't play battle royale games.
I'm not interested in plants v zombies.
Tennis is by far the most boring sport to ever exist (in my opinion 😂)
Hoping for a much better offering from Sony for next month.
Might try the tennis game.... maybe
I would have been happier if the Tennis game was the PS5 version as well as PS4 version...
I do appreciate there being something for the kids to play. All too often, PSN games are unsuitable.
@SilentS Yeah man, sounds like you have to think about why you even have a subscription at this point. For me, I've played all these games in the last calendar year given away on Plus: WWE Battlegrounds (100%), Wreckfest (Plat), Control UE (Plat), Fall Guys (86%), Concrete Genie (Plat), Destruction AllStars (plat), Maneater (Plat), Bugsnax (Plat). I feel like I've got my money's worth. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
Not happy would be putting a positive spin on it. Shocked at how bad the lineup is would be more accurate
Don't think I'll bother.
@ViolentEntity Oh my bad I should've clarified that I have played PvZ and Tennis 2.
I'll add these to my library because why not but I know for a fine fact that I'm never, ever, ever going to play a single one of these games so I guess that's why not.
Yeah.
I didn't think it was a brilliant month. But then I didn't think last month was a brilliant month either except for Plague Tale, yet I managed to have some goofy fun with the WWE game with my two sons (9 and 11 years old). I'd never have bought that game in a million years but being subscribed to PS plus meant we at least have it a try - and while I still wouldn't go and buy it or anything it was a bit of fun.
(Plague tale was the stand out game for me last month, but I've been busy finishing off Days Gone and starting Dark Souls, so haven't got round to playing that yet)
We'll probably give the tennis and plants Vs zombies games a go this month - because while there are some fantastic games out there that I'd love to see on PS plus, many of them don't really do couch co-op so any game that does is worth a try, even if it's not one I'd be interested in buying otherwise
No way haha, I bought the PS5 version of Tennis World tour 2 the day before they announced the PS+ games. Even the PS5 doesn't help this game, absolutely boring with no atmosphere, even the crowd seem bored to be there 😴
@Logonogo oh come on, you're "significantly behind" because of time zones - the rationale is reasonable but if you disagree at least you only have to wait a few hours. It's not exactly the situation we had in the 90s when Europe got games months after they released in the US - a few hours is barely "significant" in comparison
I'm going to at least try them.
@danlk1ng its all relative, I wasn't that upset about it though, was just pointing it out
@Mergatro1d I play it with my wife and it's a joyful experience.
That tennis game is absolutely bloody awful. I honestly have idea how your reviewer gave it a 7. I don't care how little competition there is in the genre, a terrible game is a terrible game.
Edit: it was you Sammy! You must have been in a really generous mood or dying for a tennis game to play. I feel you on the last one. At this point I'd pay good money for a Top Spin remake.
Is the battle royale game available to PS4 subscribers or not? I've seen conflicting information
A rare two PS Plus games that my kid can actually play (PvZ and TWT2). I'm happy about that.
we have a saying in my country too " you can lead a horse to water but it will still taste good in a findus crispy pancake"
I'll only be adding Plants vs Zombies, no interest in the other two games.
@Cyxn1d3 Don't you dare compare Genshin to the garbage that is Hunter's Arena: Legends. Regardless of monetization, Genshin works, isn't clunky to play, and doesn't take 5 minutes plus to get into a game.
Holy crap, HA:L sucks. It's even worse than Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance.
Gave that Hunters game a go out out of an uncharacteristic bout of good will. Quit halfway through the first game I got into and uninstalled. Utter tripe.
@get2sammyb It seems like the tennis game isn't available to download at all. I can only find the Complete Edition in the store for £50, while the look from the PS+ tile gives me an error (WS-118720-9) saying "Can't find what you're looking for [back]"
Typical as it's the one game from this month I thought I might play.
Edit: seems to be fixed
Yup tried Hunters 3 times and each time there's some d*** waiting in the bushes till I kill off a group of enemies and ults me. No idea how players are on such high levels 5 mins into the game.
Dunno why Sony didn't just buy Paragon from Epic. That was a pretty sweet game.

@Illy333 Just hook it to my veins!
@Illy333 not sure what esports have to do with what i’ve said but sure thing, dumbo?
Can't even play world tennis tour on ps5. 🙄 Won't allow you to download it..🤦♂️
@Eltel007
It's only for the PS4 anyway.
