You may remember Black Myth: Wukong from back when its debut trailer took the internet by storm. Developed by Chinese studio Game Science, the action RPG put in a second appearance in February of this year, and that trailer pretty much set the gaming world on fire as well.
But this new gameplay video might just be the most impressive demonstration yet. The developer's calling it an 'Unreal Engine 5 Gameplay Test', and the footage is simply jaw-dropping. Both on a technical level and in terms of artistry, this game looks ridiculous. Said video is the definition of a must-watch.
Apparently, Black Myth: Wukong is still set to release on "all mainstream consoles". We don't know when it's coming, but we're praying that we get some concrete information sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, rub your eyes in disbelief in the comments section below.

All I have to say is: WOW
Ok wow, this looks really really good. Pretty blown away, this is truly next-gen.
This is why I’m excited for this gen, even indie games look amazing!
If it actually turns out like this at release I'll be happily surprised but if it doesn't I won't be.
Take my preorder money please!!! Can’t wait for this game.
I'm curious to see if this game will get an English dub. I don't know how big the studio is or what kind of resources they have, but it seems high profile enough to warrant one.
I am really dribbling in anticipation about this game.
I think this is now my all-time favorite vaporware title.
I’m interested, could be good!
Nice. I’ll check it out on my TV later on but I don’t get too excited when you don’t even know on what machine it is running on.
That’s why I really appreciate when a trailer is announced to be running on PS5.
Looks great. It's Sekiro 2!!
Simply stunning, release date for next gen consoles please!? 🤩
So while we will talk in length (and rightfully so) about western devs with issues with crunch, toxic workplace and so on, nobody will question the work situation in a Chinese dev?
Okay, this is seriously good, it's like god of war meet journey to the west. After genshin impact, I think this game can be the second AAA international hits for chinese developers
@Olmaz In the end, if the games is good gamers will buy it, if the games is bad gamers won't buy it.
That snow deformity! 👌🏻
@Olmaz does this dev have those kinds of issues? The fact that they're Chinese wouldn't make crunch or toxicity acceptable. Nor should you assume the working conditions are bad just because they're Chinese.
Worth noting that it’s not console footage and it uses Nvidia DLSS. They’ll probably have to scale it back a little for PS5 but who knows - UE5 seems very capable
true next-gen game. This is the reason god of war and horizon were criticized for being backward-compatible.
Let's hope the game is as good as the trailer, because this looks amazing.
This looks glorious. I’m buying it for the snow physics alone. Come a long way since the snow in Uncharted 2 (which blew me away at the time). What is it about snow that instantly makes all games better?
Looking very tasty...sign me up..
That deep snow is mental. I remember seeing characters move through it in RDR2 and thinking how long we'd have to wait to see that improved upon. This is a whole different level!
Speaking of snow...
Does anyone else run outside when it’s snowing and twirl around with their arms stretched out like Winona Ryder in Edward Scissor Hands?
No? Anyone?
Just me then 😫
Good grief!
This looks insanely good!
Can SONY now drop the idiotic 'for the PS4' to now?!?! :-/ Or they will be left for dust if they keep making games for PS4 to. WE WANT NEXT GEN GAMES ONLY PLEASE!!!
@The_New_Butler @Milktastrophe @wiiware I have nothing about this specific dev (because transparency and communication are as difficult as you could imagine from China), but I would direct you to do some research about workers' rights in China.
Here are 2 links to start :
https://borgenproject.org/facts-about-workers-rights-in-china/
https://tbinternet.ohchr.org/Treaties/CESCR/Shared%20Documents/CHN/INT_CESCR_CSS_CHN_16961_E.pdf
This research will show you that anything coming from China should be looked at with a lot of scrutiny if you value any basic Human Rights.
I am frankly stunned that not more people are voicing serious concern with Chinese government getting more and more prominent in the video gaming landscape (as it's the case in other industries, but we're talking about video games here). Aren't ethics and values not important unless it's about very specific subjects and only for western devs?
Ps5 can easily play this game flawlessly.the game looks amazing.the realease date might be far.but the game looks ready now.word up son
@mrtennis1990 agree
Unreal 5 baby
The game looks simply amazing, and definitely something that I am interested in, even if it's just to wonder around and marvel at the detailed world that has been envisioned.
I really hope that they have a decent checkpoint system, as I can see myself dying a lot to the various move sets of the enemies shown!
I also hope that it isn't a game that expects you to remember a vast amount of different combos in order to play. Looking at the various strikes and moves of the protagonist, I am a little concerned that it might not be a simple case of press Square for light attack, and Triangle for heavy attack type of game, as there seemed too many differing attacks to be that basic. I've never been any good at remembering combos, and as I approach my 60's my memory is even less reliable. So here's hoping that the game is a bit more manageable, as it is certainly something that I would like to experience.
@Olmaz Worker exploitation happens in unskilled labour sectors, not skilled labour markets like Game Development.
They still have very limited rights and worker protection though. Probably about on par with the USA which has the worst employment protection and worker rights of developed western nations.
Should we highlight America’s terrible worker rights every time a game is developed by America?
What about Japanese Games? Do you know Japan is the worst developed country for workers doing unpaid overtime? It is engrained into the cultural DNA, and leaving on time can actually be considered a huge insult in some companies.
@The_New_Butler I am not talking about people here, but about the effect of laws and government on said people. I know for a fact that most Chinese people are extremely kind, well-intentioned and would love better life and work condition.
But we're talking about a country that :
And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
What evidence do you have that the video game industry of China is immune to all these issues, and that it operates with dignity, inclusivity and respect to Human Rights to a level of even close to the western industry? If you don't, I'll just have to assume that Chinese video games devs are following the laws of their countries (see above). And that's troublesome to me.
DAMNNN. Chinese sekiroborne is now instantly on the top of my wanted list with Elden Ring.
Seriously impressive skills and artistry on display by Game Science.
This generation is looking like graduation for Chinese game devs who are also bringing their own ideas.
Still waiting for the english patch to try out Tale of Immortal on Steam.
@ChrisDeku Thanks for the calm answer.
As you said, not every industry in China will have the same level of "exploitation", but if demanding from some workers to work unpaid extra-hours for a few weeks/months is unacceptable in our countries, it still shouldn't be acceptable elsewhere, or at least shouldn't be glossed over that easily.
Yes, America's bad workers' right should be spoken of more often, as they are very low compared to other western countries. They are still way better than China (not even comparable I would say).
And again, yes, Japanese work ethics are problematic. I have seen a few articles trying to dabble in it, and it should be brought up more. At least, the scrutiny of our gaming media outlets should be higher.
And to come back to my initial statement, except a few articles on very minor censorship of some games, I have seen absolutely nothing critical of China's growing involvement in the video game industry, and I find that worrisome.
@The_New_Butler Fair enough.
I'd argue that with that logic, you'd skip pointing out systemic issues in the video game industry just because "it's the state/culture/legal system". If by buying a game developed in China, I participate directly in the exploitation of the devs by an oppressing state, I'd feel bad and would like this issue to be spoken about more often.
If I was seeing more articles criticizing China's growing involvement in the video game industry, I wouldn't bring it up. But sadly, there is (almost) none in the main video gaming media outlet (that I have seen : I'd be glad to read some if there is).
Now this is what you call Wukong game. Enemy designs are cool as well.
@Olmaz Butthurt western logic. Truth is China has lifted 100 million people out of poverty and has become the new economic engine for the world. Yes, the system HAS many problems, lots, but you can't tell me the predatory capitalist societies the rest of the world lives in are doing any better. In fact, they are doing worse, the west is broken economically and morally but still feel like they can lecture the rest of the world.
Explain to an afghan how the US is so much better than China. I believe they might differ.
Hopefully PS5 exclusive.
@arsmolinarc If I had to answer you with the same tone and kind of arguments, I'd say this :
Explain to the Ouighours that their "reeducation camps" are not that worse than what minorities have access to in the US.
But to be more serious, can we stop trying to paint China in a beautiful way for 2 minutes? Criticizing one of the most despotic state that has caused a tremendous amount of death throughout these last decades shouldn't be countered with argument like "yeah, but it's bad here too".
The western countries are far from perfect, I agree, and each of them comes with different issues. But they are still the best places to live for now, and are always open to a self-scrutiny you won't see anywhere else in the world. So please let's not compare apples and oranges and stay on topic.
@WolfKingk87 hope so as well. With these graphics it simply won’t work on previous gen, only with a huge downgrade.
@Milktastrophe I'm not familiar with the website, so take these quotes from the CEO of the studio for what it's worth:
“I want to expand our workforce and hire more people. I want to be licked so much that I can’t have an erection anymore,” he wrote (in Chinese) in a Weibo post. “I know you guys just happen to be so horny. I’m glad that the trailer has given you some satisfaction.”
In another Weibo post explaining his understanding of video games, Feng wrote (in Chinese), “My goal is to give blowjobs to people who appreciate my work, and to help people who share my vision achieve orgasms.”

@Bdbrady Nice find, thanks!
So no one is going to talk about that critical hit at 4:10?
@Olmaz This was my first thought, as well. The game looks stunning, but I can only imagine the cost it must take on their employees.
@Bdbrady Oh my.
Looking at how gorgeous it is, I can only humbly realize that we shouldn't expect it to be released earlier than middle of 2023..
And that is sad.
@roe getting some real sekiro vibes from this one, yeah
So, watching the bottom right corner, looks like stance switching, a la nioh, and a perfect dodge builds up focus or chi, judging by the yellow orbs that build up, which are used to strengthen attacks?
Hi there fellow gamers.
Man, this looks absolutely stunning!
The phisics, the environments, the animations, the Bosses......
If Game Science can make this game run like this, at 60fps, on a PS5, then they will become my new favourite dev team.
I kinda wish the "player" was better though.......
Will be keeping both eyes on this one.
Cheers, stay safe folks and happy gaming to us all
@fR_eeBritney Hi there friend.
You know, I would totally do that.......
If only it actualy snowed in my country, Portugal.
But alas, it does not, so....... I don´t 😜
Kinda wish I could though.
Cheers, stay safe enjoy the snow whenever you can
Can't remember the last time I was this impressed by a video game trailer.
Holy cow. I'm late to the game on this one. Incredible looking graphics, unique design and bosses, very imaginative and original looking overall. The combat moves were killer. Liked the effects during movement, blurred, shadows, etc. Must buy whenever it drops.
WOW the graphics are outstanding and the difficulty is up there. This reminds me of Sekiro but it looks more difficult.
Holy guacamole now THAT's next-gen
@Bdbrady interestingly I've seen some alternate translations that weren't at all sexual, but in my short search I didn't find the original Chinese post (not that I know Chinese). So the part about being licked was translated like "I wanted to use this trailer to attract to new employees, but everyone is praising us so much instead."
I'm more inclined to believe that translations like that are cleaning up what he said, especially considering some of that disturbing old marketing material of theirs. I wouldn't be surprised if the proper translation is somewhere between these two, as this clean version is actually a coherent thought and the licking thing doesn't make any sense. But it's very likely still inappropriate.
This does appear to be a problematic developer. Thank you for doing the diligence to share this information rather than just assuming they must be bad because they're from another country.
Holy crap! The environments look INSANE. UE5 will change everything!
The enemy designs look fun, with the rolling head and all.
To be nitpicky though, the snow effects on the ground look a bit on the bad side, some animations also look a bit janky.
BUT THOSE ENVIRONMENTS THOUGH
Bluebox Games take note... THAT'S how you do a gameplay reveal
@Olmaz Preach brother 👍 ❤️
@nessisonett I heaven everything is fine
I'm hesitant to get hyped, it looks too good to be true but I suppose a new DMC on current hardware would have to be equally impressive. That's just amazing.
@arsmolinarc well said
@Roswell75 reveal is right, we’ve had a year of spoilers now. Only two to go!
I'm so tired of Wukong, he doesn't need to be put into everything like do something new. This isn't being run on a PS5 either, its clearly being run a super stacked PC.
Was really excited until around the ten minute mark, when it started stating its anti-Ten Commandments. Not really into supporting blasphemy. Oh, well... plenty of other games to play.
Looks cool but hopefully you're not stuck using a stick the whole game.
That dragon. Wow. I'm sold.
Gameplay looks amazing, but will still wait for reviews before buying.
@The_New_Butler Untill you talked about it i didnt even think about it. Every developer that treats their staff terrible, cruel or any abuse should be held accountable.
@doctommaso Its a game.
@Olmaz does it ever come to your mind that alot of these issues you mention about China could be fabricated? For sure there are issues in their country but at the same time similiar issues about worker's rights happens everywhere in the world. Whenever you list certain research that defame China, does it ever come to your mind that these research are often just propaganda that certain people "wanted" you to believe in? To be honest, I think alot of these indoctrination needs to stop. Maybe a good first step is to watch some youtube about the lives of a foreigner currently (if they don't currently lives there [including Chinese immigrants], it could be that they have already commited certain crime and got kicked out, so those are probably less reliable) lives in China, they should give you a better understanding of the Chinese people and how their government works. I am Canadian and this is a Canadian guy that I follow on youtube, which talks about his life in China.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChXOhG9bRDb3vSTg-qkPAZg
@okano Yes it does come to my mind. This is why I am very vigilant when it comes to the information I find. But enough research (which I've done) gives you enough answers.
A few Youtube channels and personal experiences will not be enough to balance the mountain of evidence (both from western, eastern and Chinese media outlets).
I don't know why more and more people have the deep wish to see China in a positive light (I have read a few theories, but I guess it's more a case by case basis), but it won't change the reality of the people living there, or those being directly influenced by them (see Hong-Kong, Taiwan, or even quite a few countries in Africa and South America where the Chinese presence is growing).
