We do love a bit of Tetris Effect here at Push Square, so we were super excited when Enhance Games announced Connected, a multiplayer add-on coming to the game for free. Unfortunately, PlayStation 4 users have had to wait roughly eight months for the expansion. The good news is that the wait is very nearly over — it launches next month on 18th August.
The complimentary update will add all the Connected modes to the existing game, which let you play cooperatively and competitively with your buddies. The titular mode sees you and two others joining forces to clear lines together and take down bosses. Meanwhile, Zone Battle pits you against another player in a head-to-head match with the Zone mechanic enabled, and Score Attack has you and a competitor playing separately for a high score.
What's more, this update will also enable cross platform play with all other systems, meaning you'll have plenty of people to drop blocks with. There's also Spectator Mode so you can watch skilled players compete, a PAL Speed feature that replicates how the game felt on the NES, and a Slow Speed mode that, well, slows the speed of the game if you want.
Again, it's all free and comes as a game update for all players, so you just need to watch out for the patch when it arrives on the 18th August. Will you be playing Tetris Effect: Connected? T-spin into the comments section below.

Amazing! It was just a douche of an exclusive for Xbox.
PlayStation get the game first, then Xbox however xbox get the multiplayer for 12 months… weird
@NateGoesLive
Business is business.
Its arguable that it was a bit of a douche to make it only avaliable on the PS4 at the start.
Looking forward to the update. I havent listened to any of the new multiplayer tracks, I want to be surprized.
Shame I probably cant experience it without the pressure of other players (then again maybe its playable in solo too)
Hopefully with new bespoke visuals to go with it (I frequently entered dream like state watching the visuals in VR)
I'll certainly be playing it. I think it's one of the best games of the last few years.
@Burntbreadman Completely 'douche' (not a word I usually use) exclusive both times round (PS don't get a pass) but very weird that it was an exclusive on each platform in different ways. But as you say business is business.
This game is a sublime experience, but I just suck at it. I’m really need to try it again and see if I somehow gained any reflexive quick spatial orientation skills in the last two years.
Finally. I've been needing an excuse to jump back into this.
Looking forward to this.
Is this also local multiplayer?
Pretty cool, owned this on ps4, but extensively played the multiplayer on gamepass. Had some epic matches there xD
Can the music or "level" be changed when playing local multiplayer matches? I played the beta-test and could not find out how to change that... it's a bit annoying that you have to listen to the same tune for each play.
@Bioth Yep. 2 player versus or you can play 3 player local versus bosses.
@themightyant haha sorry. Douche is not a word in my regular vocabulary 😂 not sure why I used it
