It's official: the two Crossbell Trails titles are finally coming West on PlayStation 4. Both of these games started life on the PSP, before being remastered for Sony's home console in 2020. However, until now, they've remained exclusive to Japan.
Officially titled Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure in English, the duology will actually use a recently completed fan translation by The Geofront as the basis of its localisation efforts. Wow!
But these are huge RPGs with a lot of text to translate, and so unfortunately, they won't be released for a while yet. Trails from Zero is coming in 'Fall 2022', while Trails to Azure is aiming for 2023. Both games will be published by NIS America.
We can't wait to finally get our hands on these highly rated RPGs, but what about you? Join the Special Support Section in the comments section below.

I'm so damn KEEN
Cannot wait to finally play these games.
People definitely need to play these 2 before starting Hajim-.....err, Reverie for sure since the Crossbell gang are practically the center piece to the whole story.
Man I'm so confused.
"To all platforms"
Except Xbox, lol, which apparently isn't a platform.
@Ralizah lol i noticed this too and i admit it did give me a laugh this morning
@ukiduck are you forgetting how involved they are in cold steel 3/4
According to some people on reddit, I should play this two games after trails of cold steel 2, if I want experience the story vn in chronological order.
They also suggested that I play the trails of the sky trilogy before cold steel.
Is this correct?
@rachetmarvel If you want the best experience, you'll play them in this order:
Trails in the Sky FC
Trails in the Sky SC
Trails in the Sky the 3rd
Trails from Zero
Trails to Azure
...and then the Cold Steel games, obviously.
With that said, the Trails in the Sky games aren't on modern consoles, so you'd probably want to play them on PC.
Of course, these are all reasonably lengthy JRPGs, so if you're primarily interested in the Cold Steel games, having to play five other games beforehand might be a big ask.
@Ralizah Thanks, I will at least try to play the crossbell games after I finish trails of cold steel 1.
Well look at that. They did prove my comment on the thread from yesterday about the localization wrong. Which makes the release date all the more baffling. The translation is done. There will be no english VO. I can’t believe porting the already translated game to ps4 and switch takes more than a year of dev time! 🤦😔🤷♂️
Zero’s really quite good. I’m not waiting to play Ao. Just going to play it next with the Geofront patch since there’s no English VA anyway.
@nessisonett
They removed the patches from the Geofront site, so hopefully you downloaded them beforehand. There are surely also other (illicit) means to obtain the patch.
@MemSec Yeah, I have Ao on PC legitimately along with the patch.
I know they are a ways out but oh boy come late 2022 throughout 2023 it's going to be a very good time to be a Trails fan! That's also super cool that they did end up working with Geofront those folks deserve some compensation for all their hard work. So happy about this!!!!!!
Is there a specific reason for this extremely long wait? I thought nisa helping them would speed this up a little. I wanted to play these 1st before finally getting into cold steel but that's 1-2 years from now? Damn
@Judal27 These games have so much text and lore they need to get right and if they rush things it'll just ruin the experience.
Only about midway through Trials in the Sky SC, but guess there’s no rush to get to the end of Cold Steel series as I want the whole experience. Nihon Falcom is slowly becoming one of my favourite developer, and their music is awesome!
@rachetmarvel you’re really going to want to play trails of cold steel 2 immediately after the first game. They are essentially one story with a cliffhanger. I don’t remember the second game spoiling anything but the first game didn’t.
@nessisonett I'm confused, do these games not have Japanese voice acting that can be translated into English?
@KidBoruto As far as I know, they’re leaving the Japanese voices intact in these ports. And I played the first 4 with Japanese voices anyway so that’s my preference.
@nessisonett I just find it strange they aren't taking the time to give them English voiceovers.
@KidBoruto Don’t really care to be honest. The Japanese VAs are great and Trails dubs sound dreadful.
@Ralizah r/patientgamers slowly coming in clutch, this series
@MemSec
Can't believe it either, I wonder if TheGeofront are getting paid for their Translation. I doubt it. If I had to guess, they won't get a penny, unless they are included in the actual work that is coming.
Frankly I am disappointed that they won't have A western voiceover for A western release. Sounds to me like they are using a fan community text translation, and re-releasing the same game otherwise. Sounds like a money grab. IDK though probably wont buy them until they are reduced in value SIGNIFICANTLY.
