The file size for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has been revealed, and thankfully, it's not going to take up a massive amount of your console's rather limited storage space. Spotted by PlayStation Game Size, the upcoming PS5 exclusive will occupy around 42.2GB. That's without any day one patches, mind.
We recently got an early look at Rift Apart, and the graphics melted our minds. The title's shaping up to be yet another top quality technical showcase from Insomniac Games — and we can't wait to go hands on.
Anyway, the size is about what we all expected, isn't it? Nothing surprisingly small, but nothing particularly huge, either. Will you be adding it to your PS5's library next month? Nod agreeably in the comments section below.

Not a Day 1 purchase for me but I’ll add it to the digital library soon after release!
With every native PS5 game installed and a few of my favorite PS4 games there’s still 140+ gigs left in the tank
Kracken technology in effect 👍🏻
This would be a Day 1 purchase for me if I was actually able to get a PS5. Oh well, at least I can watch playthroughs of it on YouTube.
Day 1 for me. The only R&C game I've played before is the PS4 one but this looks so good it makes me feel like I've been a fan since the start.
Yes, already bought and paid for. Looks fantastic
A rare Day 1 purchase for me. Cannot wait for this game!
Those that have gone for pre-order - are you going standard or deluxe edition for the extra £10 (digital)? I'm assuming the armour sets, you eventually collect via playthrough, as with Raritanium. Soundtrack and artbook might be nice...
Five armour sets
Photo mode sticker pack
20 Raritanium*In-game upgrade materials
Digital soundtrack
Digital art book
Based Insomniac!
@mikeym I want to give Insomniac all the money I can but I just hate pre order bonuses that breaks the game. I had the same problem with Spider-Man 2018. So I'm probably going to get the standard edition and buy the digital after beating the game !
PS5 game sizes for current gen games are smaller than last gen equivalents for technical reasons already discussed elsewhere. They are even significantly smaller than Series X game sizes. This is why the complaints about the smaller SSD should hopefully be temporary as people finish their PS4 games.
Would be if a PS5 was easier to find at MSRP. R&C really does seem like the kind of game that deserved a bundle, that game box art would look great on the front of the big PS5 box. Under current circumstances I can see why they can't, but it would have been nice. So, on the bright side, I'll probably save $50 and be able to get this for $20 by the time I get a PS5. Maybe a God of War bundle? 🤷♂️
@mikeym I went deluxe because I think that one awesome looking armor set was said to be exclusive to the digital deluxe and insomniac deserve all the support they can get
Day 1 for me. I'll be picking up a physical copy from Best Buy. I'm not too worried about storage because the PS5 games I've finished I transfer to my 5tb external HDD to free up SSD space. My external drive will be full soon though so I'll need to upgrade 😒.
Already preordered and ready to go!
Never had a Ratchet and Clank game disappoint me so will getting this as soon as I am with Resi 8
This will be a day one buy for me, im looking forward to playing this!
Probably not a Day 1 purchase since Final Fantasy VII Intergrade releases the day before and I want to replay the game since I lost my completed save file.
We'll see.
Replay a game I really enjoyed and would happily play again, or get new game? The struggle is real!
I’d say it’s not bad really but seems large in comparison to the claims everyone made of game sizes shrinking. I’d say they have maybe stayed the same.
Day one purchase based off of the quality of their history.
CDPR has lost that trust with me.
Day one digital purchase since I like the ps4 remake and this game seems to be better than that 😃
I don't care how big it is, give it to me now !
Ooh-er missus.
So a game this beautiful and smooth is that size but COD needs 100GB plus? Think insomniac need to teach devs how to compress
Day one - no doubt.
My most anticipated game with a confirmed release date.
Can't wait for it.
Buying this Day 1 for sure (physical version). Didn't buy Resident Evil Village because of it.
The games looks fantastic. I have no problems with the size.
42GB? How's that even possible?
why would it be , its a single-player platforming game.
Sounds good. I was dreading this Gen because I thought every game would be 100+GB
I believe Mark Cerny said this type of thing is due to the SSD. He mentioned that, for purposes of quick loading into RAM, the post boxes in Spider-Man were installed in 400 different places in the HDD. The PS5 SSD can find the info so fast that devs just need to put each asset in once.
He said all that in the GDC talk last year that apparently bored the internet.
N.i.c.e. ratchet and clank is legendary.word up son
@KippDynamite yeah, devs said Cerny's presentation was great even if most of it went over our heads. PS5 so far is proving to be a great engineering feat.
@thefourfoldroot Sure will have to do with the kind of SSD which allows to make compression internally so it takes care of that problem
Day 1 locked and loaded for me.
We need that m.2 slot unlocked sooner, rather than later, Sony…
Day one purchase without a doubt, I may have to take off two weeks from work lol.
Day one for me. First true PS5 game I’ll have bought.
Only ever played the one on PS4 but i greatly enjoyed it and really want to play this but cant for obvious reasons. I do have a Vita so i really dont have an excuse to play at least the original three games.
The file size of this game pales in comparison compared to TLOU2 and RDR2. Insomniac games outdone themselves again with RIft Apart just by looking at the gameplay trailer.
How do Insomniac pump out so many high quality games in relatively quick succession vs other studios?
Is it just my imagination, do they have a massive team or are they just hugely talented or what?
@Dodoo They just never sleep.
Ba dum tish.
Wikipedia says they have 275+ employees, which is average to low for a large AAA studio, especially one that puts out as many games, and as high quality, as they do.
@Richnj hah yeah, I guess they’ve just got to be a mega talented team with such high quality output…!
