The PlayStation 3 is almost 15 years old, so it’s hardly surprising it has some irksome quirks – but with the closure of the system’s store on 2nd July, subscribers to PS Plus should probably be aware of a potential problem. While your downloads will be retained, you’ll only be able to play any titles you claimed through Sony’s subscription service as long as you remain a member.
Now this isn’t an issue if you’re planning to remain subscribed for the foreseeable future, but here’s the rub: there’s no way to outright purchase titles you’ve previously claimed as part of your membership while the storefront is live, meaning if your subscription lapses after the PS Store has closed, you’ll never be able to play those titles again – unless, of course, you resubscribe.
This problem also applies to the PS Vita, as well as PS Minis. It’s something that, fortunately, the firm has fixed on PS5 – you can purchase games even if you’ve already redeemed them through PS Plus – but obviously this is a legacy issue and it means that it’ll never be fixed on the company’s older consoles.
Unfortunately, there’s no solution either. If your PS Plus subscription is scheduled to lapse before 2nd July (or 27th August for PS Vita), then you will have the opportunity to let your membership run down and then purchase said titles outright – otherwise, you’re stuck. It’s always been an annoying, irritating oversight – but unfortunately it’s accentuated by the imminent closure of the various storefronts for PS3, PS Vita, and PSP.

Another day another negative playstation post on Dontpushsquare....
you can't buy them anyway if the store is closed so...
@TrueAssassin86x You can say that if you like, but personally I think it's something people should be made aware of — even if there is no obvious solution.
If it doesn't affect you then that's great — feel free to ignore the article!
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi That's the point: say you have a copy of inFAMOUS: Festival of Blood that you got free with PS Plus in your download list. It's not a problem if you remain a member, but if your subscription lapses then you won't be able to play it.
The solution to this, if you wanted to ensure you always had access to it, would be to buy the game outright now while you still can. But because of a flaw in the PS3, PS Vita store, you can't buy it because you already claimed it through PS Plus.
Complicated issue, but will definitely affect some people sadly.
Yet more evidence of Sony being far too short-sighted so that problems like this can surface well after it's far too late for them to give a s***.
In any case, it's more than clear at this point that the storefronts should not be shutting down with the immediacy that they are, ESPECIALLY the Vita's store. It would not have killed Sony to give us a good 12-18 months of advance notice at the very least.
@TrueAssassin86x
That's 100% more on Sony than on Push Square.
I commented about this last time. A possible solution is to use a secondary account. This works for PS3, as you don’t need to be signed in on the account that bought it to play it (unsure about those DRM titles, like Bionic Commando) Kinda works for PSP as you can have games from multiple accounts on the same storage device, but need the PSN to assign the psp to the account of which you want to play the games, or hack it cough cough. Kinda the same for Vita but more of a hassle with the memory card switching... or hack it
@TrueAssassin86x Would you rather they just ignored it? This is a legitimate problem for some people.
I remember this issue when they had the $1 game sale a few years ago. I wanted to get Gravity Rush for a buck but I had PS Plus at the time and the game was already on it.
Or you can just purchase them on a different account. Problem solved. You’ll still be able to play on your existing account, earn trophies, etc, etc. Apart from VITA, thinking about it. But they stopped giving VITA (and PS3) games so long ago that you would have surely played everything you want to by now.
I’ve known about this issue for years. I remember trying to buy Just Cause 3: Gold Edition in a sale but I couldn’t because I owned the standard version via PS+.
I contacted Sony customer services and they said they couldn’t do anything but suggested I could buy the Season Pass separately (which cost twice the price of the Gold Edition at the time). I ended up ordering a physical copy of the Gold Edition online which was cheaper still...
Good to hear they’ve fixed the issue for PS5 but it’s still very annoying for those of us with the older consoles. I hadn’t thought about the issues arising from the PS3/Vita stores closing.
I’m just waiting for the day when they tell us our PS+ library will expire - you just know it’s coming eventually.
@TrueAssassin86x Sony needs some negative reaction and feedback here. What's the problem? This is important to discuss. Do you enjoy what's happening to the PS3 store? Because it's big news and needs to be covered in one way or another.
Sometimes I think I never should have signed up for Plus. Most of those Plus games got very cheap before being 'free'. I would've been better off just buying the games I wanted, without the need to subscribe forever.
I'm surprised this was never fixed on PS3. I know it always drove me insane having to wait for my subscription to run out before being able to purchase the games I liked. It's still there on PS4 but at least they FINALLY fixed this irritating issue on PS5.
@TrueAssassin86x Everytime you post here you say something negative. You have to be the most annoying user on this website so far.
How can people care so much about a free PS Plus game. But when it dropped from $59 to $19.99 or less then $10. they never gave It a second thought. Yes Sony really should have fixed this long ago. I see it as both sides not caring enough about the games in question to take action. By that I mean buy it on physical disc when it was at a super low price instead of waiting for plus to give it to them.
@TrueAssassin86x The best Sony fans are the people who know when to be critical of Sony's shortcomings
An easy way around this is just to create a dummy account and make what PS Plus purchases you want to own on it.
@get2sammyb thank you for that clarification.
people acting like they actually play these days like every day.
@get2sammyb Thanks for clearing that up, I was a tiny bit confused at first but yes makes sense now.
Also in regards to the negative comment, I appreciate your posts on this whole fiasco. It keeps me in the loop.
I jumped back into the PS3/Vita scene a year ago to finish my backlog so as much as I dislike hearing the news coming from Sony I do appreciate reading about this s**t storm to know whats to be expected.
Or you could just move on with your life. C'mon, You would've played whichever game for 5 minutes before realising it sucks & moving back on to your current game.
Let it go, I'm tired of ya'll whining!
@Ichiban Or you could have just ignored the article. No one's forcing you to read the comments lol. Just saying.
@TrueAssassin86x. Then why you replying then.you making no sense.go do something else.word up son
If you really want to make another psn account and buy them from that account.
Couldn’t you just create a new account and purchase them? Not ideal, maybe, but then, what part of this is?
Who the hell is really still playing on ps3 the console is 15 years old. Old consoles and old games shouldn’t be Sony main priority right now it should be new games and their new console. I know what some people here about to say Microsoft is doing it so Sony should do everything Microsoft is doing ok so Sony should also stop making exclusives games and focus on their streaming services ps now like Microsoft does.
The thing is, do you think Sony is going to go "oh crap, people won't be able to download Infamous now!" and revert their decision? The bigger issue is the store closure and if people are upset THAT is what they should focus on. Instead of starting to nitpick things that will only distract from the main issue. They still haven't reacted to that yet either.
It sucks that you can't buy those games if you're a subscriber but if you really want them just make a dummy account to purchase the game on. The BIG issue is the store closure, these little outrages are distractions from the big issue.
Hey everyone. Buy physical. Don't give into the convenience of digital, because when these stores go tits up, you're left without support. I know that they'll eventually pull all of this stuff off the servers and if you don't have it downloaded anymore, you are s.o.l.
Half the games needing day one patches to be playable is another story. But surely people will be archiving patches for use many years down the road.
I guess when all of this goes down, which we know it will, people will be forced to pirate games because they can't get them anywhere else.
Anyways, keep physical alive!!
@TrueAssassin86x This is pure fanboyish tribalism! It's a legitimate oversight on the PS3, and should be reported as such so people know information that is TRUE.
by physical on ps3 they are cheap at the moment and will still work if network is down and cmos battery is dead
Genuinely sorry for all 5 persons affected.
Who the heck is gonna let their PS Plus lapse anyways? That service is absolute gold right now
@ILikeStake doesn't work for everyone. Last time I checked, physical copies can still get damaged or... lost. Because of my job, I have to constantly move from one country to another and carrying all those physical copies with me all the time is simply inconvenient. When I was a student, I lent some ps3 games to a friend and never got them back. I even sent a few boxes back to my county and one of them never made it, so I lost several game, like Beyond Two Souls. Which is still not the end of the world, since I can get a physical or digital copy and play it at some point never in the future.
@Balie3000 but what ifffff!!!!11
@get2sammyb if you are really that stuck in ps3 era that your heart breaks if your psplus lapses and you have no option to blow your money on two games.... then the solution is to use that money on a month of ps now when the heartache becomes too hard to live with. If the games are not there, be it.
And if you are in the population that only now plays on ps3 (say, because of your financial situation, country you live in etc.) you for sure are not sinking your hard earned dollar on anything ps plus or psn store - you are buying your games on discs (or you have a modded ps3 and are playing pirated games). It's even worse on Vita in terms of piracy.
If Sony was seeing any meaningful sales of ps3 and vita games on psn they wold not shut things down. The truth is, probably hardly anyone is spending any money there on these two platforms.
@naruball even the "what if" scenario can be easily remidied...perhaps this could have been a more useful article with some tips. There's just too much whining about these store closures.
Yeah this is a fringe problem at best.
Sony know what they are doing that will make them money.
They are in the business to make money from us like everyone else in the industry not to be our friends.
Nintendo does the same closures off services after a certain time passes we just have to get used to it unless things change?
With regards to the store closures, there's an amazing flurry of YouTube videos on great digital games for PS3/VITA/PSP. There's dozens of games and DLC that I'd like to and probably will get. I'd like to think Sony would run a sale or reverse their decision to close, but Sony is too big now to care what pesky customers want.
Ah the old ps plus issue. This was a problem back in the day. I remember being annoyed i couldnt buy street fighter x tekken on sale for 3.99 years ago on vita because i had redeemed on plus. It does rather lock you into the service. Particularly given the price vita cartridges are selling for these days.
As you say, its not a problem so long as you remain part of the service, but if you lapse membership for i think its 6 months you lose access permanently to those games.
And if Sony switches off more network features so that the game cant do that digital handshake with your online account, i can also envisage that being a problem in the future.
So many terrible blunders and decisions from Sony; years of mismanaging the PSN is coming to bite those that enjoyed their consoles and games the most.
For a moment I thought the article was claiming that the subscription items would no longer autorestore after a lapse. Geez.
Sony: Makes questionable choices and has systems not fit for purpose.
Pushsquare: Reports on, and highlights the issues.
PS fans: Shoots the messenger.
@get2sammyb yeah, just not a new problem, more laziness from Sony, no reason why they couldn't ever just put the work in and make an option in the store page and backend to make games also purchasable, a normal drop down option for 'game' 'ps plus game' shouldn't be that difficult, they've done exactly that for PS4/PS5 versions of games on PS5, also typical Sony in that it probably means lost income although they may argue they make more money from PS Plus subs than selling heavily discounted games
Any chance of a positive article at all,
Feels just negativity and moaning last while and seems its just for the sake if it mainly 😒
@4kgk2 Uh.... A lot of people are still playing on PS3. Take your head out your butt and realize that not one can afford to spending $200 on a PS4 or even $500 on a PS5 especially in some of these poor countries where a PS4 still probably cost an arm and a leg.
It also the fact that Sony refuses to find a way to provide PS3 back compact, so with a lot free time people have from pandemic. People are going back to finish a lot of games that they never played in the first place. I have a friend who currently playing through Drakengard 3, a PS3 only game.
@Rob_230
“ if you lapse membership for i think its 6 months you lose access permanently to those games.”
I can confirm this is NOT the case. I didn’t have Plus for well over a year because I really don’t play many online games and I had PS Now. I still had access to all ps plus games I’ve ever redeemed when I resumed.
I did lose my Xbox gamer tag and account, but that was because I never had an Xbone so didn’t access my account at all for over 5 years. MS didn’t tell me I needed to so I lost everything.
Now that was annoying to say the least.
On this article: Look, not being able to purchase games while a member of plus on that account speaks to a level of incompetence and nothing wrong with showing that, but clearly Sony are in the business of selling games, so I’m sure if it was an easy issue to rectify they would have done so.
If this is a problem for a very few people they know what to do. Just set up another account for free and buy it there.
I've been collecting physical copies of old Spyro, Ratchet and Clank, Tomb Raider and Medievil games over the past year in case something like this happened.
I was half afraid I was wasting my money.
It's probably wishful thinking, but I'm still expecting Sony to announce a new Legacy service at some point, after the spike in retro sales on these stores has died down.
I've been calling this out for years (and more recently the same issue exists with EA Play). Sony Customer Services cannot help, despite suggestions on various forums that they can revoke your license for individual games.
@get2sammyb - I've seen the option to buy one or two titles, but the issue is definitely NOT fixed on PS5.
I have the option to buy Destruction Allstars and Bugsnax, but not Worms Rumble, Oddworld Soulstorm or Control. I've redeemed, downloaded and deleted all five games on PS Plus.
Microsoft got this spot on with their "Buy To Keep" option.
"fortunately, the firm has fixed on PS5"
@get2sammyb Fairly sure it was fixed first on the PS4 Store?
For me personally, the most disappointing thing to come out of all this are the number of utter snobs so far up their own rectal cavities who believe that this is a non-issue and believe any game over a certain age is not worth anyone’s time or worry.
These are the people who have absolutely zero respect for video games as an art form or the result of people’s hard work. To them, they are just a disposable product to temporarily provide entertainment as long as it adheres to their own standards and tie them over until the next fad arrives.
@FX102A
“Utter snobs[...] To them, they are just a disposable product to temporarily provide entertainment”
Yes, this describes me. Video games are not my life, just a form of very enjoyable entertainment which I pay for, use, sometimes love, then discard/sell/trade when finished.
As a gamer for over 30 years I know exactly how often I’ll replay a decade old game (hint: practically never). I also have witnessed the immense improvement in games in that time, which means I can see that, after a couple of decades, yes, games are pretty much obsolete due to being improved upon in every conceivable way by successors.
Sorry, but emotional impact is still almost non existent apart from in a very few games, so you cannot yet compare it to other art forms. Preserving games is currently more for anthropological purposes than due to their inherent value.
Hopefully that will change at some point, but the PS3 / VITA era was definitely not that point.
@get2sammyb the obvious solution is just create a second Playstation account and buy the games you want on that. I'm doing that anyway as some PS1 games are only available for other regions, still it was always a ridiculous scenario and one that's thankfully being fixed these days
@thefourfoldroot "I did lose my Xbox gamer tag and account, but that was because I never had an Xbone so didn’t access my account at all for over 5 years. MS didn’t tell me I needed to so I lost everything.
They did announce less than two years ago that they would be deleting inactive accounts, and that it would take two years for your account to be deleted.
You can access your MS/Xbox account from any source, so xbox one, 360, phone, PC. So you could have easily kept that account by logging in to it on any of the devices you do own.
PCgamesn.com also reports that if you've made a purchase on said account, that it would be safe from deletion. Though admittedly, I've not tested this.
https://www.pcgamesn.com/microsoft-account-delete
@Floki If you cant afford a PS4 why the hell would you buy digital? If you go physicalyou will save so much money.
@Sebatrox Had you purchased content on your steam account?
@thefourfoldroot Thats good to know about PS plus content. I've just looked it up and apparently access will only be lost if you dont access your account for 24 months and Sony remove the account (which is fair enough)
On your point re accounts, easier said than done. On PS3 its fine like you say, but on Vita you are effectively tied to one account per system unless you reformat your memory card which is a massive nuisance. It was one of the reasons cited for Vita struggling to sell when it launched as you couldnt buy one to share between 2 kids for example, but instead needed to buy two systems, 2 memory cards etc (whether it had a massive impact in reality i couldn't possibly say of course)
@Flaming_Kaiser Buying digital vs physical isn't always about saving money. Some people simply prefer digital over physical.
@Richnj
Maybe. They didn’t directly tell me and I wasn’t really reading the gaming press back then as I was busy with life stuff. This was several years ago, maybe you are talking about a more recent purge I also didn’t hear about. I would have found time to quickly log in to save my stuff and especially my gamer points, but oh well. Been PlayStation only since the end of the 360 era, it did leave a bad taste, but mostly I just don’t have time for all the games I want to play on any system so more than one seemed a waste of money.
@Rob_230
Yeah, I guess the VITA is the exception here in some respects. That’s more a hardware issue than anything else though, old news for me and other VITA owners. Maybe Sony should have given a longer warning, but with people stacking multiple years of plus it still wouldn’t have been a solution.
If all these issues with ps4 are solved with the ps5 then i have nothing to worry about cause i sold my ps3. None of this is thankfully affecting me.
But, i heard things about the ps4 that i didn't like. I don't plan to sell mine cause the ps5 has no mediaplayer.
@Sebatrox So you just sat on a username for seven years?
Coincedentally, did you know that Sony have a two year deletion policy in Europe? . But they actually don't care if you have funds on the account, and won't refund you if they shut it down.
I'm not even sure if psn accounts with purchases are safe like xbox accounts, because Sony haven't clarified.
When I first notice the PlayStation 3 store was closing , I was like what's going to happen to all the ps plus games I have gathered over the years ,thankfully been a ps plus subscriber has kept them , I fought sony would pull the plug and we have nothing. Has a regular player on all systems playing yakuza 4 on ps3 atm I got a second ps3 and downloaded 90% of all my games including all vita and psp and left them on the system ready to transfer to the vita when needed , mainly these are mostly the free ps plus games. These are sad times for ps3 but am still playing
@RubyCarbuncle
Lmao i barely post when i do it isnt sucking up to sony or bashing sony. Your just mad i have the guts to say what probably some of you all are thinking.
@EVIL-C
Lmao you mad kiddo i'm no snoy fanboy or xbot. I'm just a gamer on all 3. I dont waste my time carrying the flag for either company like u do.
@playstation1995
Speak English no one understand stands you. Youre the troll around here not me
@TrueAssassin86x Not mad I just get bored of people whinging and so far every post I've seen of yours is you whinging as demonstrated here. Btw you do know you can reply to more than one person in one post right? plus it's you're mad not your mad. Learn basic English son.
@TheFrenchiestFry
You mean snoy fans. I mean it sticks sony's screwed up but realisticly how many of you all play the PlayStation 3 plus offerings today? I just want through my plus offerings on my account and there aint any i would wanna go back too.
@RubyCarbuncle
Lmao i'm not whinging it truth and seems like as of this morning 21 people agree with me statement. So appearly it aint "whining" but all i see is you and other sony fans whining get a life.
@Jaz007
Its no big deal to me we can non ps fans still can redownload the games just buy the games you really want before it closes problem solved.
@TrueAssassin86x Lol implying likes on social media or any website make you automatically right. You must be new to all of this.
Whatever kiddo.
@RubyCarbuncle
Your the kiddo as someone for rages over a comment goodbye kiddo blocked
@Sebatrox So allowing inactive and dead dummy accounts is smart, and MS and Sony Europe are stupid for shutting them down?
Blocked also. I was planning on it anyway. Thank God for that tool, too bad you can't make idiots like him disappear in real life and he still didn't spell you're correctly lol
@Sebatrox Well if you're a European PS owner then trying to go back to your PS account after being on Nintendo for 5-10 years, it might be a problem.
But if you're an xbox owner going back to Xbox after 5-10 years of Nintendo or PS, you literally just had to own just one piece of content to keep your account.
And quite frankly, having an account 5-10 years ago without a single purchase on that account seems highly suspect as far as owning that username. You are essentially squatting on a username, and shutting it down loses you nothing except that username. Forcing these users to create a new account when and if they decide to come back can hardly be that much of an issue for someone who seemingly created the account, never used it, then abandoned it for a decade.
Odd as I've been downloading games and going through the store, which everything shows a price on it for me. I should look to see if I can buy Catherine, or it just downloads as I'm a Plus subscriber.
I thought 'The Internet' hated the PS3??? But now SONY is doing all this everyone is going mad??? I don't get it
@Carl-G You can criticise the console's failings while still enjoying the games.
For reliability, both the 360 and PS3 were POS, but I also think they've had the best library of games, maybe of any generation.
@Sebatrox Well seeing as you now own something, that's fine.
But there is an issue with people just sitting on accounts. I actually struggled to get my son the same tag across Xbox, PS and Switch because on one or the other, there was some dead account. Clearly not someone who was keeping the name for all platforms as the name would be available on PS for instance, but was some 0 Gamerscore account on xbox.
Hell, I have the same tag in PS, Xbox and Switch, but you know where I couldn't get my name? Steam. Ended up putting characters in. The actual account was inactive.
@TrueAssassin86x As if what games I want or new games I start to like changing or a new series I get into doesn’t happen. Let’s just make very game unbuyable digitally, including PS4/PS5, because we can just go buy every game we want right before it closes right? Your logic makes no sense.
@Floki Yeah thats true but it has it drawbacks thats for sure. So im happy i didnt go for it. 😅
@Floki Some people prefer both 😉
@get2sammyb how dare you write an article that isn't specifically tailored to my personal needs and requirements. I wont be back to this site until next time I want to submit a pointlessly negative post. Good day to you.
@get2sammyb surely you just but the disc version then
thankfully you are never truly stuck. people will resort to "other" methods to archive their games if sony won't. there is absolutely nothing wrong with this solution.
@thefourfoldroot
"I did lose my Xbox gamer tag and account, but that was because I never had an Xbone so didn’t access my account at all for over 5 years. MS didn’t tell me I needed to so I lost everything."
Uh... ok. That's odd. I didn't use my Xbox account in nearly 7 years, then got an Xbox One X and found that not only did the old gamertag/login details work perfectly, with all the gamer points retained, but old cloud saves from my Xbox Live Gold days still worked. I booted up Red Dead Redemption and there were my old saves from 2012/2013 made on my long-sold Xbox 360. I was suitably impressed.
So what happened to you doesn't happen to everyone.
@Sebatrox "I didn't use my Steam Account for almost 7 years and Valve didn't remove my account. It shows just how stupid microsoft is."
Actually it doesn't. Stupidity isn't a factor here if they've already told you they're culling old unused accounts with no purchases made on them. Wait... arguably it's the stupidity of the user for not logging in for over 2 years if they wanted to keep that account. 😏
I mean, if you don't care to use them then it's one less thing with your personal details on it to potentially be hacked when they auto-close the account, although really Microsoft haven't had that problem (Sony has, though, more than once).
@zekepliskin
Having been told, I looked it up, and MS did indeed warn people that their accounts would be deleted if not used for a certain length of time. These were specific purges at specific times. Obviously their message wasn’t loud enough to reach me. I don’t know if I had specific purchases on this account, I know I had some games with gold games I was meant to be able to keep after sub lapsed so assume that would be counted as a purchase on their system anyway.
I’m not really complaining, they have the right to delete accounts that aren’t used for several years, it costs them something to keep them active after all.
It was funny they used the excuse that they wanted to free up gamer tags for other people though, lol.
I personally would have been more likely to come back as a customer if I hadn’t had my gamer points deleted with my account. Not even really bothered about old games. But, yeah, whatever. It was a strange decision by them but too long ago for me to care.
@TrueAssassin86x I love it when people say things like "speak English" when 1) we're all writing it not speaking it and 2) the person saying it has poor spelling and/or grammar themselves, like using "your" instead of "you're" and not capitalising the letter "i" when used as a pronoun. Both of which you did.
Ah well, another day another negative comment by NotATrueAssassin69x 😂
@thefourfoldroot In my case as far as I remember I only ever downloaded free games, and wouldn't have been annoyed if they deleted my account. Perhaps it was the fact I paid for Xbox Gold that kept it alive. Either way, it was pretty impressive to be able to jump back into several Xbox 360 games as if I never left.
"It was funny they used the excuse that they wanted to free up gamer tags for other people though"
Yeah when people have such memorable ones like SameOldGamer0001, by which I mean it's always something with a number on the end rather than doing something smart like using your name or a screen name and replacing any i letters with 1 and o letters with 0, for example. 🤭
"I personally would have been more likely to come back as a customer if I hadn’t had my gamer points deleted with my account."
For me I never really cared about stuff like that, it was just the convenience of logging into an old account rather than setting up a new one, which I later changed the primary email and gamertag for anyway. 😃
"It was a strange decision by them but too long ago for me to care."
I'm teasing rather than trolling, but you cared enough that we're here talking about it, eh? 😉
@zekepliskin
“ I'm teasing rather than trolling, but you cared enough that we're here talking about it, eh? 😉”
Lol, yeah, I guess we are. I only mentioned it in passing due to someone else talking about accounts being deleted, didn’t expect multiple people to carry the topic on, but I’m a talkative fella so always happy to discuss even the most meaningless of topics.
@thefourfoldroot Agreed, it's nice to have a civil conversation with a fellow gamer such as yourself rather than be trading jabs back and forth which gets tiring. I'm also a talkative fella yep. Sometimes discussing gaming is nearly as fun as actually playing the games.
EDIT: Oh one thing, what's the basis for your username? Talking about ones that are unique, unlike my SameOldGamer0001 example.
@zekepliskin
I think these days i spend more time on here than I get to actually spend playing games, lol.
My username Is a reference to “On the Fourfold Root of the Principle of Sufficient Reason”, which is a piece by Shopenhauer focused around something as seemingly uncontroversial as rationality and the existence of cause and effect, things which are unfortunately being lost and denigrated in these times.
I’ve long since given up on philosophy, my ageing brain along with my fraying belief in the value of human existence just makes it seems like an exercise in arrogance, but if you are interested I highly recommend his work.
My now deleted Xbox gamer tag was BlakesUrizen, a reflection perhaps that I felt myself bound by reason when others where not. I was much younger when I came up with that too. Wonder if someone else got to use it as MS implied.
@TrueAssassin86x That's a pretty lame attempt at an insult, which is why it failed.
Actually I own more Sony consoles than any other (PS2/PS3/PS4 Pro/Vita/PSP) but I do have a Switch and One X too. It's called being "platform agnostic", but you probably don't know what that means as you seem like a pretty ignorant would-be rabble rouser. It is possible to say things are good or bad without being a fanboy, but it sounds like even grasping that concept would be far beyond what your tiny, closed mind is capable of.
Why is it so many gamer trolls think it works to call someone a kid? Like literally it's so unoriginal and 🥱 it's like you're all reading from the same hackneyed troll handbook.
I have a great life, thanks. Maybe you should take a look at yours though - being a pitiful keyboard warrior lashing out at random strangers on the internet is usually a sign of poor self-control and other such issues well-served by counselling.
I guess the first seven letter of your username are correct, you really are behaving like a TrueAss 😂
(EDIT: Oh my god this gets better and better. According to his profile he's 34, cares about "games not consoles" - not that he acts like it what with his nascent fanboy talk- and hosts a deserted forum called Mature Gamers Alliance - you can't make this up, can you?)
@thefourfoldroot This is surprisingly deep and interesting, thanks for sharing! I like philosophy too but it seems fewer and fewer people these days are capable of it - too distracted and too busy having their attention span shot to pieces overdosing on their smartphone digital facsimiles of lives rather than living in the real world. As a former introvert turned (mostly) extrovert I've found it fascinating watching other people kinda go towards what I once was, while I move away from it.
@zekepliskin
I don’t care about people’s distraction, or even the idea they may have a shorter attention span due to more stimuli, I am sad that this generation are moving towards an adherence to regimented, prescribed ideology rather than original and logical thought. To the extent that I’m increasingly glad I’ve never had kids.
I’ve been an introvert forever, god knows how I found my wife, lol. Most people just aren’t worth talking with these days unfortunately.
@thefourfoldroot Well said, I agree with that. There's enough people having kids anyway, I'm happy skipping out on that too. Very true about the lack of original thought and for some reason a sort of self-imposed censorship going on - I think one may feed the other in perpetuity, the way things are going. People too scared to state their own opinion for fear of ostracism.
@TrueAssassin86x Well it is a legitimate issue and a huge oversight by Sony. They are closing down the PS3 and Vita stores and making many games inaccessible.
@zekepliskin
I console myself with the fact that rebelling against parents and the prior generation is essentially built into our DNA. This generation is lost, but I’m confident in one or two more we will once again enter the Age of Reason.
In the meantime, videogames are a nice distraction from the world we find ourselves in for the next couple of decades.
@zekepliskin To be fair, Microsoft's Xbox Accounts have been hacked multiple times, with quite a few people impacted; it just wasn't on the massive scale that Sony's Playstation Accounts were hacked.
Fair point, if true I'll take that correction! Just never remember reading about it on, as you put it, a massive scale. Guess years of poor networking in Windows (and the resultant scambling to fix) gave Microsoft the edge over Sony when it came to fixing hacks, or "plugging firewalls" as Pritchard might put it. 💻🔥🧱
