The votes have been counted, and the Push Square community's most anticipated PlayStation games of 2021 have been decided. This particular poll raked in almost 7,000 votes split across 50 different games, with select titles proving to be far more popular than others.
Let's get right into it!
10. Far Cry 6 - 143 votes (2%)
9. Mass Effect Legendary Edition - 193 votes (3%)
8. Kena: Bridge of Spirits - 288 votes (4%)
7. Gran Turismo 7 - 292 votes (4%)
6. Cyberpunk 2077 (PS5) - 310 votes (5%)
5. Resident Evil Village - 393 votes (6%)
Capcom made a colossal comeback over the course of the PS4 generation, and now we're all hoping that the streak continues on PS5. Okay, so the Resident Evil 3 remake was a bit of a disappointment, but Resident Evil Village looks set to recapture the first-person creepiness that made Resident Evil 7 such a nightmare. We haven't seen a whole lot of the game yet, but we're already loving the oppressive atmosphere and big hairy beast-men. Good luck Ethan — you're probably gonna need it.
4. Hogwarts Legacy - 430 votes (6%)
Wow, who knew that Push Square harboured so many Harry Potter fans? To be fair, this project has immense potential — it could be the game that enthusiasts have been dreaming of for more than a decade. Hogwarts Legacy is billed as an open world RPG that lets you explore the titular school of witchcraft and wizardry, complete with player choice, skill trees, and all that good stuff. Let's just hope that the Avalanche-developed adventure lives up to expectations.
3. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - 816 votes (12%)
At this point there's just no reason to doubt Insomniac Games, is there? The prolific first-party studio has already kickstarted the PS5's lifecycle with the fantastic Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and as far as we know, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is set to launch in the not too distant future. From what we've seen of this portal-hopping platformer so far, this is going to be a jaw-droppingly gorgeous game, complete with all of the wacky gadgets that we've come to expect of the galaxy's favourite lombax and his nerdy little pal. It's got fun written all over it.
2. Horizon Forbidden West - 1,257 votes (18%)
Given the huge success of the first game, it's no surprise to see Horizon Forbidden West suck up so many of your votes. We're yet to really see this PlayStation exclusive in action, but we all know what to expect: this supposedly bigger and bolder sequel will surely be a PS5 must-play, as Aloy journeys even deeper into her robot-infested homeland. There's no doubt that Horizon Zero Dawn smashed all expectations when it launched back in 2017, but this follow-up could cement the property's place as an all-time great.
1. God of War Ragnarok - 1,302 votes (19%)
Looking back, it still seems crazy that Sony Santa Monica was able to reinvent God of War so effectively. 2018's masterpiece will always be remembered as one of the PS4's greatest games, but that's what makes the prospect of a sequel so mouth-watering. We simply can't wait to see what Kratos and the boy do next — especially now that the father and son duo are going to be unleashed on the PS5. The only flicker of doubt that hangs over God of War Ragnarok is the release date. Is this thing really going to hit within the next 12 months? We wouldn't like to say for sure, but it's still your most anticipated game of 2021.
And there you have it. Do you agree with how this vote turned out, or did the Push Square community get it completely wrong? Give yourself a second chance in the comments section below.

I didn't bother voting for GoW. There's no way it's coming out in 2021. I'll vote for it next year though
@charbtronic yeah I agree I can’t see GoW2 coming out this year. It’ll be delayed until next year for sure.
Still Gran Turismo for me. Well, if it comes out in 2021. I honestly doubt half of these will come out this year, we’re still seeing the impact of Covid with delays and stuff.
Still need to play GoW.
Horizon was fun. Hopefully the sequel doesn't disappoint.
Dang no Returnal on the list? Ya'll sleeping on what will be another great Housemarque title. The top 3 are probably my same top 3 although I really doubt God of War makes it out this year.
@Ralizah I hope the Horizon sequel grabs me a lot more than the first one did. Perhaps actual side quests and characters who don’t have the personality of a block of tofu would be a good start.
These games have a lot of potential, hope they deliver.
Hahahahahahahaha c2077 ya trolls
@PSfan4Life22 bro. I hope housemarque shut up some people and go out as yeah, we are just as good as those games.
Every developer was in the position housemarque is. Nobody knew who the hell was cdpr before w3.
I’m ready for Cyberpunk to be payable in 2021!!
@charbtronic I’m of the opinion the new God of War will be playable on PS4 as well so the foundation is already there and could absolutely be finished this year
I have like 15 games I am hyped for, but I will try to make it a top 10.
Number 1 and 2 are the same as this
3. Elden Ring
4. Returnal
5. Back 4 Blood
6. Re8
7. Ff16
8. Gotham Knights?
You know what. I have a 15 game list but I am honestly not that hyped for half of them. A lot of them are if they are good, I will get them. Ratchet, gt7, outriders, Kena, harry potter, death loop and dying light 2
It will be a crazy year for ps5 if ratchet & clank ra, gow r, and horizon fw all released in this year
Also I think it will be fun to make top 10 anticipated ps5 patch for ps4 games articles. I can't wait for the division 2 60 fps patch, and I wish ac oddyssey is patched to 60 fps too.
@wiiware I think it will be a good year even without exclusives
Horizon Forbidden West was robbed.
😉
Nah BUT it is far more likely to be released this year than the God of War sequel. It's definitely my most anticipated game that's officially been announced not just this year but next year as well.
Good to see Kena make the top ten and pretty much every game on that list I'm keen to play at some point with the exception of GT 7, driving games do nothing for me.
@2cents I think we would've seen footage of some kind at this point if that were the case. GoW gameplay reveal was E3 2016, game released April 2018.
I think we have some time.
@LiterallyDoNotCare A year without exclusive is kind of not exciting since one of the reason I bought playstation 5 is for the 1st party exclusives, I definitely want all of these games.
I can't wait for Kena. The gameplay and graphics remind me of launch games from previous generations like StarFox Adventures and Kameo. Although I expect this will be better than both games combined.
And of course Horizon 2, God of War 2 and Ratchet and Clank 2. I may have to get a ps5 this year 😁
Not on the list (or the votable list) - but Battlefield (6?) for me all the way!
@nessisonett You take that back! Blasphemy! Tofu is delicious '-)
I've seen two games i have forgotten about today Hogwarts and Destruction Allstars! Both i hope will be decent as they look fun!
Some of the ones I'm most looking forward to didn't even make this list! Have to say, I think we're in for a fantastic year! It helps that so many of 2020's hopefuls got pushed back, of course. Let's hope the same thing doesn't happen this year. (or, let's hope it does, if that's what it takes to release a finished game!)
@nessisonett I was too busy blowing up and scavenging the parts from robot dinosaurs to care about Aloy's sob story.
The plot itself was fun science-fiction schlock. Much better than the self-serious apocalyptic schlock of The Last of Us.
@wiiware As a secondary console I get you, but if it's your primary console and you buy third party games, third party is looking much better in 2021 vs 2014 as an example.
2014 was what? shadow of mordor and dragon age? there's way more triple A games in 2021
@Ralizah I wouldn’t say it was better than The Last of Us but both are ultimately simple tales that would be on SyFy with a 10p budget and a largely Canadian cast. Horizon’s story fell flat because of the time between each story mission spent firing arrows into robots, which meant you got a dollop of awkward cutscenes every 3 or 4 hours.
I wish there was an option to downvote comments because there are some right proper stinkers on this thread!
🤦
@nessisonett @Ralizah If you don't like science, you wouldn't like horizon story. If you are not an emotional understanding person, you won't like tlou story.
Either way, no game has ever done side missions better than the main story. At least the ones I played.
@LiterallyDoNotCare I mean... literally Skyrim has a lot better side quests than the main story. That’s probably the most obvious example.
@Col_McCafferty Calm down dude. Did someone insulted red dead again?
@nessisonett I disagree. The side missions I remember were mostly about cults and groups etc...
Here's another one!
PushSquare make it happen, save some of the tedious arguments that's for sure.
@LiterallyDoNotCare The Witcher 3.
Intricate, consequential side-stories, but the main plot is literally just going from location to location chasing Ciri until the very end, when it becomes your standard "save the world" fantasy fluff.
Tough crowd on here tonight.
🙄
@Ralizah I think the main story is better. The only thing I liked about the side missions were the new creatures. I think that's what made them interesting. Can't say the same about red dead.
@Ralizah @LiterallyDoNotCare Yep, +1 for Witcher 3, the side quests were absolutely brilliant and blew the main story out the water. Especially the one with Yennefer and the djinn, which tied in nicely to the novels.
@LiterallyDoNotCare
Hey bud, not to pile up on you, but I'd say any single player game Bethesda has ever made had way more interesting side quests than main quests. Same with CDPR.
@LordSteev Can't say for all bethesda games since all I played was skyrim.
But I disagree with w3 and skyrim. main story was better.
@LiterallyDoNotCare
That's cool. If people didn't disagree, these threads would be pretty short!
I'm waiting for this game instead.
Due to 9 February 2021.
G.o.d. o.f.w.a.r. w.o r.d.u.p.s.o.n.
Predictable and fantastic Top 3 but can't believe Kena Bridge Of Spirits is number 8...it should be at least 4!
@Wazeddie22
Just curious why you think it should be so high? Brand new development team, never made a full-length game before. I hope it's good, too, but it could just as easily be catastrophic.
@LordSteev Yep you are right it COULD be catastrophic just like any game although I don't think it will be.
When it was first announced with the trailer,it was one of a few games that I absolutely LOVED the look of,more than some of the big ones.Going by the reaction on this site and others it seemed others felt the same so I'm surprised it didant come a bit higher.
Oh and to be honest I didant realise they hadn't made a game before but I'm still extremely hyped for it.
@Wazeddie22
Yeah, I have to admit, it DOES look good. Fingers crossed!
@LiterallyDoNotCare The first six month of 2014 is barren so I bought wii u instead, I played wii u exclusives game until ps4 have a lot of games and sold the wii u, I bought ps4 in the middle of 2014.
Backward compability really help ps5, I even think it's worth it to have ps5 just to play ps4 games at 60 fps & higher resolutions, and the nearly non existant loading time.
I must be psychic, my top 3 matched up perfectly.
@charbtronic
What makes you think that?
@Arugula The way the robots were made for reasons other than war but secretly for war bit them in the dust. The game also explains an ai, and how it establishes and ecology of those machines and how each one is needed. The ai also has smaller ai with roles. Technology, Ecology and some Politics are the focus of that story. I think it's one of the best stories this gen.
Horizon horizon horizon horizon
I've been playing Dragon Age Inquisition for about 100 hours now straight. First play through. I can't believe how great the game is aside from the blatant 4 character models being recycled over and over lol. The side missions and dlc content is way better then the main story. I feel that's a common theme in open world games.
@Arugula Yea I can agree 100% on Mass Effect 2. That's definitely one of my all time favorite games period. That first Garrus mission where he's sniping dudes on that space port was amazing.
@Ralizah.... Agreed.... Leaving TLOU 2 alone a bit, I do agree the stars of the show for Horizon are the mech dinosaurs............ They are so good they make the not up to par story forgivable. The story did start well but kind of fell off and became kind of secondary to the mech dinos. The other thing that's is kinda under-rated about the story is actually the background story of how the mech dinos came to be. I actually wanted background part of the story to be playable/played out in the game.
@nessisonett... You say it as if there is or has ever been any game with a story that could rival Hollywood, books or even a comic book. All games are ultimately simple tales that would be on SyFy with a 10p budget and a largely Canadian cast. If we're to watch all games as movie's with the stories already written, then as an industry it would fall flet as they would be atrocious. The only reason we even bother with games is their interactivity.
Horizon's isn't bad because of pacing, it's bad because once Gorilla nailed the basics of the mech dinos they almost complete put a lot of work into polishing them they are so good. The story was then went to after but by then they would not have time to craft an engaging and immersive tale. The background story is great though.....
@nessisonett... In hindsight, can we still look the "side-quests" of the Witcher 3 as proper side quests in the traditional sense, the thing is it kind of hard to keep calling them side quests when the actual meat of the game is packed in them with the supposed main mission/story line of the game is bare bones.
Literally you will struggle and may likely not proceed and will definitely not see half of the game if you only focus on the Main narrative/plotstory and don't do the side quests, the main plot becomes a breeze when you do side quests and over half of the game content is packed in these side quests.
Compared to what you would call classic side quest where you can proceed with the main story with the side quests being largely neglible, i. e. optional.
@Wazeddie22...Retunal and Little Devil Inside are sleeper hits of 2021.....
You heard it first hear..........
@Wazeddie22... Kena Bridge of Spririts is 2021 GOTY contender..........
@LiterallyDoNotCare...
Yep 100 % correct. The background story of Horizon Zero Dawn is the most underrated thing about the game. I actually wanted to play the background story on how the world descended and how the mech dinos were. It is actually so brilliant I had thought they would do a dlc for it. I would even watch a Horizon Zero Dwan Movie that focus on the world before it went under, it is a beautiful and well crafted story. It is essentially and advance tech version of World War 3 or what World War 3 could play out like.
I am glad I was not the only one who loved it.
Also, there is a conundrum withe game play of Horizon, as the entire game combat is based on the melee and arrow combat which is very ingaging and immersive and very unique to Horizon. But at the end off the game, the game briefly opens up combat via you now being able to fire guns or fun based weapons instead of the arrow/melee. I made for a potential exciting multi-player mode it wish Gorilla would explore.
@GREGORIAN I almost never used melee. I don't get why people say melee had to be better. You're not supposed to fight giant machines with the staff. It's like complaning about resident evil knife. The human combat was ok, but it wasn't the focus although it could be better. The game is not perfect. The 9 games I gave 10/10, none of them are. They are just the best things I played
No Guilty Gear Strive? Back to sleep.
Don't know what's going to be released in 2021 or not but my top 5 most anticipated PS5 games are easily Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Resident Evil: Village, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon: Forbidden West and Kena.
I mean, I'm excited for both the top two games, because they're gonna be amazing. But it's all a bit too predictable. Safe option releases of sequels to best selling exclusives.
Can't really blame sony, but looking forward to some of the more ambitious, next era original smash hits to come.
@deathaxe Lego Star Wars is 100% my most anticipated game. That and as a baseball fan, I'm eager to see the Show on current gen.
