Control, the mysterious psychological superhero shooter, will receive its long-awaited PlayStation 5 release on 2nd February – initially only on the PS Store. Those of you looking to buy a physical copy will have to wait until 2nd March, when it’ll be available on Blu-ray as well. Remember, if you already own the title on the PlayStation 4, you’ll only be eligible for a free upgrade if you purchased the Ultimate Edition.
The game itself will feature two graphical options, as demonstrated above. Performance Mode will target 60 frames-per-second, while Graphics Mode will feature ray tracing. It’s the same configuration as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – although the Insomniac Games superhero spin-off has since raised the bar, adding a Performance Ray Tracing option that offers the best of both worlds. Hopefully that’s something developer Remedy can add in later on.

I got the Ultimate on a recent sale in order to upgrade – looking forward to it!
Hopefully the next-gen version aint full of bugs
Will wait for the disc version to go on sale. Had to wait this long given the atrocious release performance anyway, so 6 more months will make no difference.
@munkholt It's not a free upgrade sadly.
I want 1080p and 60 fps with RT option, like ps5 spider-man
I bought whatever edition that had everything, exactly the same as the ultimate and don’t get the PS5 version. Paid more too. Such BS. Not buying the same game again. They should have just made us pay a small amount to upgrade to next gen. I basically have the ultimate edition and then they remove it off the store and put a new version to sell the game again on the ps5. No thank you.
Non-friendly PS5 upgrade. Stuck with original PS4 version...therefore, I won’t support buying any more games from this company.
@QBGaming12 It is a free update for people who bought the Ultimate version of the game.
I know people are upset about their upgrade path and that’s fair. But honestly? If you don’t like what they’ve done don’t buy it. They did what they felt was right for them, financially. I wish it were a free upgrade and I wish season pass owners at the least got the upgrade for free. But that’s not the world we live in. So again, if you don’t like it, that’s okay. Move on. Instead a very vocal subsection of gamers get all whipped up over what essentially boils down to a SKU.
I loved the game on my Pro, and while I should have gotten the Ultimate edition on sale recently, I had to wait. I’ll be happy to buy this on sale for $20 down the line, especially as I’m not a season pass holder. Control was easily one of my favorite games of last year and I can’t wait to play the PS5 version.
@wiiware didnt digital foundry test it above 1080p average? They put a video up yesterday or the day before about the new mode
@Yaycandy It's mostly 1440p, can be down to 1080p with heavy effect. I don't care either way, 1080p and 60 fps plus RT is enough for me
@Olmaz thanks. I honestly forgot they had a Ultimate Edition of this game, nobody talks about the DLC at all sadly. I own the base game, but to have to buy the Ultimate Edition to get the upgrade kind of sucks.
I really liked this game. Pisses me off that buying it once isn't enough in their eyes to let me see how far they've come with it. Oh well, there's other games out there.
I thought this game was really boring and the map utterly useless. I didn't finish it. Dunno what the appeal really is 🤷🏽♂️
Loved it on PC
Play it with RayTracing on. One of the best implementation of RT Reflections and global illumination in a game
Cyberpunk 2077 took it up a notch, but Control is still impressive.
I think it’s annoying having to pay for the ps5 version, like a few people I got the ultimate edition when it was on sale, however until this gen there wasn’t any free upgrades as far as I know. Remasters are a similar thing in my opinion, pay for the same game with slightly upgraded graphics. Like people are saying here if you don’t like it don’t buy it.
@Agramonte Ray tracing does full justice to the Finnish cleaner's work.
Paid £16 for the Ultimate edition on the store in a recent sale, won’t play it until the PS5 version is available thanks 👍🏻
@Spoonman-2 did & doing the same thing was very happy when I saw the price 🙂
So glad I waiting and grabbed the ultimate edition when it was recently on sale. Game on!
Always looked like an interesting game, but I'm not interested in supporting greedy developers whether it's their publishers fault or not.
Ill be getting this with my PS5. 😄
Retail ofcourse.
Super disappointed with the way this whole thing was handled, especially given how great the game is I do really wanna check out the next-gen version of it though. Maybe get it used or something to not support the practice!
Brilliant game, I got the ultimate edition for $20 on sale, I'll finish the DLC when its downloaded.
Control receive a few prizes last year, but i dont know the game looks like "not goty" for me, its really good or dont worth the full price?
I never bought the original game, so not really miffed about the upgrade fiasco personally. However I do agree what they did is messed up.
Moving on, great to finally get a release date! I'll pick up a physical copy when it's on sale for $20 or less around Black Friday 2021.
