Sony has pledged Cyberpunk 2077 refunds for anyone who purchased the game from the PS Store, but what about physical copies? It’s rare for retailers to accept returns on opened Blu-ray cases, and CD Projekt RED is seemingly coming to terms with this. In a new statement on its social media account, the Polish developer urged fans unable to get a refund to contact the company with valid proof of purchase.
“We will [process refunds] out of our own pocket if necessary,” the organisation said. “If you are unable to obtain a refund from the store where you bought [the game], please contact us via email until December 21st. As this is a one-time initiative, we will provide everyone with [the] next steps only after the refund request submission window closes.”
Will you be taking the organisation up on this? Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.05 has just dropped, so there’s hope that some of the title’s worst issues may now have been fixed. Fingers crossed, anyway!

This is insane. I've seen someone terrible launches and post launches but this is pretty unique.
Say what you want about Cyberpunk 2077's release, but I've gotta hand it to them, this is pretty pro-consumer, at least compared to EA.
Edit: Never said that it was a good thing to do in the first place.
I hope people take them up on it and wait until the game is fixed.
@Jaz007 Exactly what I'm doing, I rarely ever buy a game on launch unless it's like a port or something.
They'll pay out of their own pocket.
Is this what it feels like to be an influencer?
@Jaz007 I will not, as bad as the game is bugged I'm keeping my copy cause the game is just incredibly fun to play so I'll wait for the patches.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand How's releasing a broken game on older console then giving a half-hearted refund statement pro-consumer? They only give 1 week to send in email, and in their own word haven't reply to most of the request when there is only 2 days left for the refund window.
Their PR department seriously need to stop making these ‘big statements’ because that’s the exact thing getting them into these problems. If they stopped trying to get posts with thousands of upvotes on Reddit and actually paid attention to the consequences of playing the crowd, they’d be in a better position. They say they’ll pay from their own pocket but what happens when their stock price collapses and they can’t really afford to do that? What happens if every single printed copy is sent back for a refund? They absolutely cannot afford it which means they’re banking on only a few actual refund requests and making this statement to make it look like they’re benevolent and can make time for every little request. It’s empty words without a care for the actual logistics of the problem, just like what happened with their response to delays, just like the initial rejection of crunch claims which resulted in a later apology, just like what happened when they said they could guarantee refunds when Sony could not. The PR team need to just shut up and let the developers fix this mess that they’ve caused.
You know what, CDPR are an adorable dev when all is said and done tbh. They made a mistake and going forward it'd be in their best interest to make console top priority first and foremost like R*. It'd do them a lot of good cause it looks like they're still kinda new in this whole console business.
Never should have happened to begin with. I'm not going to praise CDPR for doing the barest minimum decent thing, especially not after the lies and deception they pulled in the week leading up to this thing's release. No one should be applauding CDPR for this.
They are grasping at straws trying to save face. Its just another half assed PR move.
This situation is seriously the most insane thing a gaming company do for AAA launch, their management even said they're not pressured to launch this game this holidays, why still release it this month?? Just delay it 3-5 for month, cdp still gonna get their money, only later.
The gesture is commendable, but the window is very short. December 21 is 3 days away.
I think they now know they royally screwed the pooch. Gonna give them props for not running though and at least attempting to repair the reputation.
I've been playing on ps4 since launch and haven't had any issues.
Oh thats soooo generous of them.
@QuanQual Well not Pro-consumer, just non-EA.
That's not really their pocket if the pocket was filled by consumers asking for their money back. It's really their efforts put into building a game that's being sacrificed here, and that is a far bigger cost.
The "If necessary" makes it sound like they will be restrictive of their refund policy. I can already see a pop up question asking the customer if they really want to refund the game when they will be releasing another two big "patches" after the holiday.
The worst thing about this is because this came from a publisher and developer with great reputation, the standard AAA ones whom we've pushed so hard to start treating consumers with modica of respect again, will take a cue and start going back to their own older greedier ways. This launch made UbiSoft's AAA game launches look positively good, and I fear that the honeymoon period started from Jedi Fallen Order to Valhalla will soon come to an end after this.
@nessisonett "It’s empty words without a care for the actual logistics of the problem, "
You do know these are the same people that launched cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 right?
@SweetSummerShunv Personally i disagree. I think other developers should and will sit up and take notice from this debacle. This has been coming for some time now. Gamers have had enough of these incomplete, buggy launches.
I swear, no other industry treats their customers with such disdain. You dont find movies or tv shows released with missing assets or sound. Characters popping in amd out of shot, or just stop working at random intervals. With the promise of a patch that may or may not fix the issue a week, a month, 3 months after launch. Same goes for the music industry. Its just not good enough.
Devs have become far too reliant on patches to fix fundamental issues, which in any other environment you would expect the product to be delayed until it is actually ready to be released. I appreciate developing games is a much more complex thing to do than other forms of media, but things have to change. It will be better for everyone. Including the developers who are having to work silly hours to meet unrealistic deadlines.
@QuanQual At least until the end of the year but only refund copies with proof of purchase before the statement. Little Johnny might have his copy under the tree and opens it Xmas morning but can't get a refund despite it being bought before the statement from CDPR.
They could have avoided this by waiting until February. I don't understand why it needed to be out this year. To meet the date of the original tabletop setting? To please shareholders? A couple of extra months could have saved them a lot of headache, goodwill, and money.
We should have seen it coming a 1 month pushback after going gold. Its such a the game has hart but misses 90% polish. What do you expect too fix in 1 month anyway.
@Orpheus79V No 1 month crunch for nothing a bit more relaxed workers and time too work out the biggest problems in a normal way.
How is this exactly from "their pocket" since it was first OUR pockets?!
GTFO you clowns!
@get2sammyb @shogunrok
Just a heads up that a new incredibly awful thing has happened in relation to this game. If your save file reaches 8mb - and it will in time - it becomes perceived as corrupt by the game and cannot be loaded.
Also check Reddit and basically anywhere on the internet where they'll talk about this kind of thing.
@Rob_230 The state the game launched in, it needed well over a year to fix. Heck, Halo infinite got pushed back a year and the biggest problem we know about it was that it wasn't as pretty and shiny as fans wanted it to be, and multiplayer wasn't ready. There haven't been rumblings that is broken like this at all. They needed 12-18months to fix this thing.
Of course the question then is why is was still in this state after so many years in development at all. The 12 months to polish this state should have happened 12 months ago. It's looks like a game that never made it out of early development.
Theres got to be more to this story than they're saying. It'll come out eventually......
@kohiba99 Exactly. They are only giving back what the consumers paid to them lol
Ahh, I'll pick it up when it plummets in price.
Will be laughing at haters on push square when cyberpunk wins game of the year 2021
@Rob_230 coding a fixed animation where it's the same everytime you watch it is a lot different than an interactive game that changes with every playthrough and often dependent on items carried or previous events. Don't pass C2077 issues off on the developers as they don't decide release dates. This was 100% a management fiasco driven by greed pre-Christmas. As for the refund, what about physical copies under the tree and unopened until the 25th? CDPR still screwing consumers well into 2021. F-CDPR.
As well they should. CDPR did this to themselves, it's THEIR mess to clean up. Retailers shouldn't be left holding the bag for a company that blatantly lied to and mislead its customers.
It's a bit of a half-hearted attempt made for it's PR value without keeping the window of opportunity open long enough to be of benefit - if they were serious about this, it would have been at least two weeks, i.e. into the new year, to allow for refunds of physical copies given as Xmas gifts or bought in Xmas sales with money given as a gift to name a couple of examples.
I'll keep my copy because it's not quite bugged/broken enough to return and I haven't finished the story yet.
This is shocking. No Man's Sky is no longer the biggest botched launch of all time.
