EA Sports has given us a little more insight into how FIFA 21 will be improved on PS5. Naturally, the game's going to look better than ever — in part thanks to a newly implemented lighting system, which should give stadiums a noticeable boost in realism. There are even new pre-match cinematics, like seeing fans funnel into the arena. We assume this means that the crowd visuals have been updated (and it's about time).
FIFA 21 will also take advantage of the PS5's DualSense controller. Haptic feedback allows you to feel every thump of the ball and every crunching tackle. We've got high hopes for hitting the bar in particular.
And then there are the adaptive triggers. Apparently, holding down R2 to sprint is going to be harder if your player is tired, adding to the immersion.
All of these features arrive alongside improved animations, better player models, and even brand new camera angles. FIFA 21 dives to PS5 on the 4th December, and it's a free upgrade if you already own the game on PS4.

But that doesn't really look like Mbappe, does it?
I wonder if they will do anything to improve the cloth simulation physics on the player models this gen, as it currently still looks like the clothes are made of modelling clay.
@get2sammyb something is very off with the faces...I always prefer the Fifa gameplay but it seems PES does the faces better for years...
@AFCC I personally think PES gameplay is better as well, but they're always going to be second-place without the licenses.
It's a shame they can't combine the best of the two franchises together.
Played a bit of the new FIFA, I know this has been a problem for a long time but I wish there was a way we could adjust the time/weather of online matches.
Some stadiums in midday when they are half covered in shadow/ half sunny are absolutely impossible to play in.
Maybe there is a setting and I'm missing it.
@get2sammyb You know what, now that you mention it you're absolutely right.
This is one of the better FIFA games in a while, but that's not difficult! I'm hoping for a big step up next year (FIFA 22). But I'm happy to be surprised by the PS5 version of this.
I’m more looking forward to the next-gen PES as they’re spending more time on a proper full overhaul. People slag off sports games but they’re often a brilliant way to see next-gen improvements, just look at the original NBA 2K on Dreamcast, SSX and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 on PS2 and the like.
@get2sammyb Give me a PES level madden competitor and I will be the happiest camper in the world. The fact that you can import custom kits and then sites like PESMASTER exist, make PES a far superior product IMO. Plus, as someone who enjoys soccer on an international level, having far more national clubs is a big sell for PES.
@nessisonett Well to be fair, people don't tend to slag off stuff like THPS and SSX. It's more the turds on a conveyor belt feeling you get from the major ones like FIFA and Madden that people hate. And the fact that it's so hyper focused on football, American handegg, basketball and... Well that's it, really. There's the golf and baseball ones that are regular but seem to fly under the radar. And yeah, FIFA does step up the graphics each gen but they still look like Autons from Doctor Who no matter how many graphical effects they throw at it.
@get2sammyb You deserve a like from me on "It's a shame they can't combine the best of the two franchises together"
@get2sammyb PES feels too arcadey for me, but I still play it on my Xbox One and have some fun! Let's hope EA buys Konami and they join the faces with the gameplay lol
Dualsense support is hardly "going for gold" in terms of making use of PS5, given that it is pretty much their only option.
@Arnoldlayne and I just realised I misread this..was early morning.
