Mortal Kombat 11 is about to get even bigger and better on PlayStation 5 as a next-generation version announced today by Warner Bros will bring with it three new characters. Kombat Pack 2 includes Mileena, Rain, and the classic Rambo voiced by Sylvester Stallone himself. This new character bundle launches on 17th November 2020 alongside the PS5 version, and owners of the game on PlayStation 4 will receive a free upgrade. That counts for both the physical and digital versions, and even includes those who just own the base game.
The next-gen version of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate will include "4K dynamic resolution, enhanced visuals, improved loading times and cross-generation console compatibility for select modes". Cross-play support also allows PS5 and PS4 players to fight each other.
As for the three bonus characters, Rain will now be equipped with a katar while Mileena has access to razor-sharp claws along with her traditional sais. However, Rambo is very much the focus of Kombat Pack 2. "Playing as Rambo is like time-traveling back with Kronika to 1982. Our character artists have perfectly captured Rambo’s look from 'First Blood'. They, along with our design and cinematics teams, drew great inspiration from that film, as well the subsequent sequels."
So, an upgraded PS5 version and three new characters. What's not to love, Mortal Kombat fans? For more information on free PS4 to PS5 game upgrades, head on through the link. Share your thoughts on this announcement in the comments below.

Rambo sucks and is ugly.
How its worded sound like you need this Ultimate Edition to get the PS5 upgrade. That said I played the standard game elsewhere and it was fantastic so I might get this for PS5
Dynamic 4k in a fighting game?
Happy Mileena's back but Rambo? Really? We're actually doing this?
@Menchi The pursuit of native 4K is a waste of time. The sooner everyone gets over this the better.
(It's also an insanely good looking fighting game!)
Best fighting game ever in my opinion. I purchased the expansion game not too long ago, so its awesome to hear its getting a free upgrade to PS5. Pretty surprising too with Netherworlds notorious drain-your-wallet approach.
@get2sammyb Sorry Sammy this is not true for those of us with native 4k projectors. You're right that you won't see a difference on a smaller big TV, but there is absolutely a reason to prefer higher resolution (and framerate) on a 130 inch screen.
Nice, I'll already plan to get the game when it's discounted on psn 😃
The real questions is, will the free upgrade to PS5 transfer save information from PS4?
Xbox will use Smart Delivery...so everything will just work.
I think "Save transfer?" will become the new "Switch version?" with regards to these free PS5 upgrade announcements.
Happy to see Mileena finally return. Maybe I'll give this game another try on the PS5.
I prefer MKX over 11 for various reasons but I can give 11 another shot.
Honestly couldn't care less about dynamic 4K. The thing that makes or breaks a fighting game is its performance, so I'd appreciate 120fps if I wasn't already playing on PC
Also glad to see they finally added Mileena and Rambo is a freaking awesome addition and a pretty logical step forward after Terminator, the Xenomorph and the Predator. Still want Ash from Evil Dead though
I skipped MK11 but I may have to get this Ultimate Edition.
Have to say, I'm liking all these free next gen upgrades. It feels like it adds real value. Meaning I'll have a library of next gen titles to play when I do upgrade to the PS5. I won't be able to buy much besides the console itself after putting down £450.
@ILikeStake That stinks for the 7 of you.
@get2sammyb I'm sick of hearing about native 4K as if it makes a blind bit of difference to how good a game looks
Finally, I've waited patiently for a ultimate edition and now it's here I can pick this up at a later date
They still haven't grabbed all of the cash yet? How many editions of this game do we need per year?
#Greedisgross
@get2sammyb Whoosh at missing the point. Fighting games are the 2nd easiet games to render next to driving games.
@OmegaStriver I didn't say there were a lot that game this way. The point is blanket statements like everyone shouldn't care about something that does matter to some isn't good form. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but personally I want to see progress on all fronts, resolution, bitness, framerates, audio.
I still don't think this game is finished, I read somewhere that there were 8 more unfilled DLC character slots when Aftermath came out, sounds like they've filled 3 of them, could be another 5 coming before we get the most komplete edition?
Mortal Kombat 12 will probably be out by the time I decide to buy this game when it's hopefully complete!
Mileena's back i'll play now
@get2sammyb "The pursuit of native 4K is a waste of time. The sooner everyone gets over this the better."
Sammy in 2014 "The pursuit of native 1080p is a waste of time. The sooner everyone gets over this the better.
Sammy in 2007 "The pursuit of native 720p is a waste of time. The sooner everyone gets over this the better."
Very solid fighting game and they've clearly stepped it up with the number of add-on fighters. Not to mention story DLC which when does that ever happen for a fighting game? The free upgrade is really cool too.
That said I'm really just looking forward to a new Injustice.
Jonathan Winston Rambo, as I live and breathe!
@ILikeStake Then get a PC if you are looking for native 4k. Anyone who wants a top notch performance should just drop consoles and get a high end PC
@SamMR This is a console gaming site, not PC. That argument is irrelevant here. That's like me saying I wish there was a PS Vita remote play option for PS5 and you telling me to just buy a switch. Again though, the main point is it is okay to wish for progress like better resolution, better fps, better audio. If we all just stopped caring we wouldn't have HDR, Atmos, Blu Ray, list goes on and on.
Another thing too - I don't really consider native 4k resolution as "top notch". It's been around for awhile now, so asking for the option in a console game is not unreasonable, just like asking for 60fps isnt.
MK is becoming SF at this point with all the bloody versions..I waited for Aftermath to go on sale before I got it now there is the Ultimate version..
Yeah no thanks... The game is super awesome, but I'm not dropping any more cash until it's confirmed that the package contains all final characters and story content and that the game is KOMPLETE. Definitely excited about the free PS5 upgrade though!
EDIT: Bring on Ash please!!
@GamingFan4Lyf THIS is an important question. This is one of those games no one wants to start all over again from scratch.
Looking forward to this Ultimate version on PS5. It sucks a bit to wait for a ”complete” edition with more content and characters and after few months to find out that there is another pack available, which you have to purchase. I hope this version is the final one. We shall see.
What does this mean for trophy progress?
Playing the backwards compatible PS4 version on PS5 will share the same trophy list and progress.
Playing the PS5 upgraded version provides a fresh set of the same trophies. There are no plans to add new trophies to this release.
Looking forward to playing through the game again on PS5 ..... wonder how much Kombat Pack 2 is , or do you upgrade to the ultimate PS5 version ?
Stopped playing because no sign of Mileena so happy she’s back
Still haven't added Riddick, huh... I just don't know what they could be thinking.
@lcipri you know, even if they push out another kombat pack down the line you don’t have to buy it. Why wouldn’t you want to have more options if you like the game. Even release version base code gets update to ultimate and only difference is if you have bought the characters or not.
@Casco You're right. Thanks for your reply. 👍😉
@ILikeStake... Sammy is correct... Don't blame him for buying non future proof tech.... The tech in your projector is no longer being persuide...... It's like the multiple angle view thing that was the "in thing" on DVD players when they entered the market in the early 2000's, it was there but no benefit to use it...... Chasing raw hardware techniques or performance for advancing visual or graphics in games was last Gen engineering....... Heck even the industry graphics card leader Nvidia are moving way from raw hardware engineering with the DLSS tech cause it's old school and waste of resources ....... Kinda like how you can get a 4 cylinder 1.6l or 2.0l engine car outputting the same power as a 60's to 80's v8 engine car......
@GREGORIAN I can't tell if you're being serious. Your thought of higher resolution not being pursued anymore is insanity. 8k is a thing now whether you like it or not.
Native 4k televisions are everywhere. UHD blu rays (native 4k) are the main physical format now. Most PC games are 4k resolution. A load of developers are working on 4k games for the next gen consoles.
So seriously, you must be kidding on the feeling that higher resolution is no longer a pursuit. And ending every sentence with a series of periods is a little obnoxious by the way.
@Wavey84 Yeah, you get it. 4K/60 or 1440p/120 is definitely a great choice. I would love to see that choice become the norm for the PS5. The choice in game is what I want. Some games I may prefer the higher frame rate, and some I may prefer higher res. Give us the option!
