There were very few doubts that DIRT 5 would miss the PlayStation 5’s launch, but now we have official confirmation from Codemasters that the off-road racer will be joining the next-gen console’s release roster. That means that you’ll be able to play from 12th November in the United States and select other territories, while the rest of the world will have to wait until 19th November.
Remember, the title’s due out on 6th November for the PlayStation 4, and there’ll be a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade available if you simply can’t wait to get started. Despite that, there’ll be no cross-save, so keep that in mind before you get your campaign underway.
In addition to 4K and 120 frames-per-second support, the PS5 version will also be fully compatible with the new DualSense controller, leveraging its haptic feedback features and adaptive triggers. You can find out more about all PS5 launch games through the link, but let us know if you’ll be adding this one to your day one haul in the comments section below.

I'm so tempted by this. I really loved DiRT 2, but the franchise hasn't really hooked me since. This one does look good, though.
Can’t say I’m too excited. Waiting for the GT7 release date!!
I mean, can my TV even display at 120FPS haha
This does look a lot of fun but there's too many other games at launch, I'll pick it up a bit later though and its a shame we don't get Ridge Racer games anymore, as they were a highlight at launch for PS1 to PS3
I still have vivid memories of the caravan in Dirt 2. Might wait on this one but I'll definitely buy it at some point.
As expected. Weird they held onto just announcing the date for so long. Will be one of the first games I play for sure!
I have it pre-ordered but will wait until the PS5 arrives to play it because of the cross-save thing.
Has it been explained why they can't make the saves transfer?
I'm guessing you choose either 4k or 120fps, I'm part of the smoothness crew so I'll choose the latter! Also props to them for giving people choices on what they prioritize more, I consider developers who don't purely lazy.
@Juanalf yeah on Series X I think it was 1440p at 120fps, also a lot of trackside detail was turned down or just removed
Definitely picking this up on the 19th for PS5, to me Dirt 5 has elements of Froza Horizon 4 which is a brilliant racer. PlayStation needs more arcade racers, just remake MotorStorm & Pacific Rift with bang up-to-date next gen graphics and bring the handling up-to-date too.
@ankehuber It's up to developers, so Codemasters didn't do it for whatever reason.
@banacheck yeah I remember them saying they drew a bit of inspiration from Motorstorm for this so until one of those remakes comes along I'm thinking this looks pretty good.
I might wait for a PS4 sale but if I were getting a PS5 now it might be worth the release day price for 4k/120fps and to try out the Dualsense.
@NateGoesLive
Probably not. Most can’t.
I miss Motorstorm so much.
@carlos82 1440p at 120fps would still be very impressive, they must have done some amazing optimization.
Mmmm 120fps. Interesting to see how well ps5 does the 120 FPS. The XSX handled 120fps really well according to digital foundry.
Ohh now every ps owner loves this game after trashing cause it was shown on the series x first.
@NateGoesLive We dont know. Does it?
@get2sammyb im the same dirt 2 was great and the rest didnt manage to equal it
I pre-ordered this months ago for PS4 as the PS5 version is included (getting console release day), but if GT7 was a launch title this wouldn’t get the time of day from me
You never know
@Mega-Gazz XSX handles that mode well because lots of things in the game were turned off and/or lowered (effects, crowd/environment density, resolution, etc etc). Otherwise it would have been closed to impossible for the XSX to achieve a stable 120fps framerate throughout all the game. The PS5 version will be basically the same.
@Qanonbudah yea, because the users in this comment section represent every PS owner out there. You're reaching... Also, most of the trashing usually comes from extreme fanboys (be it from one platform or the other).
I'll wait for Dirt Rally 3. In the meantime there's still loads to do in Dirt Rally 2.0 with 60 fps!
@carlos82 yes and even there has been FPS Drops. You have to switch to 1440p in the console settings otherwise you will get about 80 - 90FPS. If you switched to that resolution I saw a bit over 100FPS and many framedrops between. Would be a nogo for me when I payed that much for a 120FPS HDMI 2.1 TV. I will skip this game because of the colours everywhere. Im not into this.
@Qanonbudah to be fair it did look terrible if 120fps means games look 360/PS3 Era I'm not interested
@ORO_ERICIUS why would you have to switch resolution in the console settings? That has nothing to do with the resolution a game renders at, its just the output resolution. From what I saw its drops from 120fps were few and far between and at those framerates wouldn't be that noticable either
but i thought 120FPS was only possible on the Series X! How can the weaker PS5 do that too?!😭
says the xbox fanboy
@carlos82 I saw a testvideo from a german gamingsite which were given a xbox series x to test dirt and BC. In their video they told that when you leave the xbox to 4k in the console settings it will try to upscale the 1440p 120FPS to 4k too and that is causing these problems. Looks unfinished to me. Maybe a patch will solve this dont know.
Spiderman / Spiderman remastered and Cyberpunk 2077 first. I will be looking at reviews for GodFall and Dirt 5 + any other releases by that time for my next game.
@ORO_ERICIUS the Digital Foundry video didn't seem to have this issue at all, I guess we'll see at launch
Already pre ordered, along with Spider man, Devil may cry 5.
@carlos82 The meme killed the series "Riiiiidge Racer", remember that one?
Here is an example where 120fps would make a difference. Fast paced game with twitch controls.
I would love an update for Wipeout Collection.
I got a x900f. It can do 120fps, but only at 1440p.
@NickTheGeek thanks for that, that makes sense. You also make it sound like it's not much work for them to implement. I wonder if it's as easy as a short line of code?
@NickTheGeek I might be mistaken, but I think HMDI 2.0 is capable of delivering 1440p at 120Hz.
@user2754 You can have a group of thousands trash a game, and then a separate group of thousands praise the same game. Everyone isn't a hive mind. Even when we are fans of the same platform, we can (and often do) have different opinions.
@NickTheGeek I don't think its that easy. I would bet that the games are restricted to accessing only their own files for security and privacy reasons; and would need special permissions (and perhaps have to go through a higher level of validation) to be able to achieve this directly.
You could do it indirectly (like how Borderlands 2 did it for PS3 <-> PS4) but that requires a bit of extra architecture (and cost) to store cloud saves.
