All the way back when Capcom announced Monster Hunter: World for the PlayStation 4, there was some scepticism aimed at the Japanese publisher’s scaly executives for bringing the brand to console and PC as opposed to portables where the series had previously proved popular. Fortunately, the success of the decision can no longer be understated, as the release has sold an eye-watering 16 million units to date.
Perhaps most impressive of all is that expansion Monster Hunter World: Iceborne has itself sold 5.8 million units to date, and that’s up 600k in the publisher’s most recent quarter alone. The Monster Hunter series as a whole now sits at 64 million units to date, and the franchise’s inevitable PlayStation 5 follow-up will only bolster that figure further.

I'm on a bit of thing recently where I'm catching up to 'end game' with a number of different games, currently I'm focused on No Man's Sky, but I think a return (and purchase of Iceborne) to MHW is called for after I finish the newer NMS content.
It’s a fantastic game, there’s no denying that. I’m glad it’s getting more attention! The boss fights in this game were far greater than those re-skinned trolls in that overrated God of War.
Well deserved sales for a fantastic game! It was my first MH game and it was a great experience especially with friends online.
I havent played it in over a year... i have to get back into it.
Haven’t played for quite a while. I played a bit of the add on.
I’m thinking of holding out until PS5, so I can play it with a better resolution plus frame rates.
Monster Hunter World is great, so it's good to see those high sales figures.
I bought it on Black Friday, didn't start it yet but soon I hope !
Game of the generation imo
Another game I want to get back into.
Would have been a lot better if they added more variety, like the insect and arachnid monsters that everyone asked for.
They could have at least added the Neopteron, Temnoceran, Carapaceon, and Amphibian species of monsters, especially Nerscylla because going up against Nerscylla really made myself and many other players change our play style due to this monster being so fast and extremely agile.
Capcom screwed up by not adding more variety.
I've always wanted to get into this series but the demos always put me off.
Amazing game that truly deserve the sales, but now I’m ready for a sequel with the gameplay of generation so they can add faster monsters or something similar
Congrats for capcom, I hope they make monhun world 2 for ps5 maybe 1-2 years after the launch 😃
I just wish the game had a better coop system similar to the previous ones on 3ds and PSP
My favorite game this generation. Nothing else keeps me coming back like Monster Hunter.
I jumped back to it after getting it day 1. I really love this game, although playing with friends online can still be a bit troublesome to connect. But once you get to the same online session it is a blast.
Creating weapons and armors is an addiction.
@malbhet They didn’t really screw up if the game is doing so well. They could’ve added more monsters though & I can see it happening in an update. That said, if they do add an arachnid I hope it’s a scorpion & not a spider. Spiders kept me from beating Bloodborne, true story.
@malbhet They had problems with adding certain monsters due to the new engine. They basically had to build every unique monster skeleton from the ground up for current gen consoles and pc. There will definitely be more variety when the next installment comes around. I think they did an amazing job with MH World and Iceborne, not to mention all the free content and support this game has gotten since release.
Well deserved.
With Iceborne addition this is a fantastic and meaty game.
@Akurusu If you are going too compare games do it right. GoW is a singleplayer only heavy on the story.
@malbhet I think the game was great i played it more then 700 hours so i have nothing too complain.
@Flaming_Kaiser Take a look at the diverse monster in 4U and GenU then compare that list of monsters to the type of monsters in Iceborne.
If you leave out the alternate monsters, like deviants and sub species, the list becomes pretty small for Iceborne while the list for older gen is still pretty huge, and that's without the leviathan types altogether.
They could have at least added 1 new type like Tetsucabra or better yet Nerscylla, which would have fit in perfectly in the Rotten Vale.
@Flaming_Kaiser And that attempt at a story wasn’t even good. I said what I said. MHW > GOW all day every day.
@Akurusu pretty sure it would be a spider since Nerscylla has become a fan favorite along with having one of the best bows in the series.
Not gonna lie I did hope they would add a scorpion to the series for a while now, also the MH series is long over due for a new weapon type, preferably a giant boomerang similar to the one used by the player's prowler in GenU, or at the very least bring back the option to play as a prowler because that made series much more fun.
If they brought back the prowler system I would definitely main the prowler over the hunter.
@Akurusu I loved MHW but the story wasnt that special.
@malbhet I have too tell you something i hated the old MH games those controls and the ancient gameplay mechanics. Its like going back too RE tankcontrols after playing RE4 and as i loved the old Resident Evil games i never want too see them return. But im not really a big fan of the old games but i wont disagree with you more different monster never will be a problem too me.
I see this is going cheap in the sale atm. Is it as dificult as the Dark Souls games? I don't mind DS, but they take me an age to finish them; generally due to despair, lol.
@Flaming_Kaiser Who plays Monster Hunter for the story. lmao
@Cutmastavictory You dropped this 👑
@Akurusu You start with the ***** comparison between GoW?
