Sony has officially confirmed a delay for Ghost of Tsushima. The PlayStation 4 exclusive was previously set to launch on the 26th June 2020, but it's been pushed back to the 17th July 2020 due to the ongoing coronavirus situation. Fortunately it's not a particularly big delay, which suggests that the game is still on track and pretty much finished.
This isn't the only big news that Sony has locked in today. It's also revealed that The Last of Us: Part II will be joining Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 this summer with a new release date.
Writing on Twitter, Sucker Punch explained that it will use the additional time to polish its forthcoming samurai open worlder: "There have certainly been challenges in adapting to game development in a Work From Home environment, but thanks to an incredible effort by our worldwide team, Ghost is nearly ready for release. There are a few finishing touches to apply and bugs to squash – so we’ll put these extra couple weeks to good use."
Earlier this month, we published a poll asking whether you thought Ghost of Tsushima would be delayed. 46 per cent of you said yes, while 25 per cent said they weren't sure. An interesting read given the news.

Oké, wow because of the clusterf*** being Tlou2 this game is being delayed... The game from Sony im looking forward to:)
Maybe I'll actually pick it up at release now. The original release date was too close to Xenoblade/Shantae, but I might grab this instead of Catherine: Full Body on Switch in July.
We'll see.
I think the 3 weeks is just to give both games some breathing room and more opportunity for people to get both. I'm sure Suckerpunch will always be grateful for time to polish.
I’ve had this pre ordered a while but when will we see some actual gameplay and not just some cinematic ?
Releasing during summer is also a very bold move...I seem to remember it's a rule that most games don't do this, due to summer activities affecting sales. People going on vacations, spending days at the beach/lake and nights under the stars, etc. If the quarantine is lifted in the summer, I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of people wanting to get out!
Anyway..."Summer release = autumn decrease (in price)!"
@Sanquine Yeah cos stacking two big games on top of one another is a good idea. TLOU2 was always meant to come out first so it's fair dos.
I’ll hopefully get round to it when autumn rolls in. I’m always skint during the summer.
@BearsEatBeets whilst you are right about why its been delayed, i wouldnt be surprised if sucker punch are a little annoyed. They hit their deadlines, whereas the last of us has been delayed twice and moved all over the shop.
Boooo. That's not bug-fixing, that's moving it away from the LoU2's release date. I'd rather they just shoved away LoU2 since it already has been delayed multiple times while SP looks to be on time. Well, hopefully that'll mean less of a day one patch and more on the disc.
@AdamNovice Yeah totaly fair that Ghost had to be moved instead of Tlou2....
@Rob_230 I think you'll find almost all developers would bite your hand off for any extra development time. They might not strictly need it but I'll bet they will make good use of it.
I remember saying last year so many releases so much back log "I wish there was not so many games coming out"
I for one am happy as a sandboy.
@Rob_230 This... Suckerpunch gets a summer release... Feels like EA who murdered titanfall to release such a game in that period + release Cyberpunk
@Rob_230 They will just be happy to have it released, it shouldn't matter if it came out before or after another game.
@Sanquine So you probably prefer if TLOU was held back even further? Yeah that will go down well.
This is fine, so I got about 2 month to finish ff7 remake, death stranding, dmc 5, jedi fallen order, and zelda link awakening. I have no problem with both games new date
I am looking forward to this a lot more than TLoU2 but would have been happy to wait until the PS5 launches and play a PS5 upgraded version.
It does seem odd that we are not getting some 'new' trailer. It would of been good to have a Sony State of Play for the 'upcoming' few months of games with this and LoU2 heavily featured...
It's always rough to see a game delayed, but that's pretty close to my birthday, so we're cool.
Daresay the bug fixes are more geared towards assigning extra Day one patch fixes etc. Crossing my fingers even though "Souls" combat games aren't my fave game type. I hadn't followed all the ins & outs of Final Fantasy 7 remake but was there such an intent/glee with releasing spoilers for it vs what's happening with TLOU2 atm?...Seriously think I'll need to start muting/blocking references on twitter its that bad right now.
Well had Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris and F1 2020 for July.
Swap out SAO. Have a Story driven Single player games and an Online Racer. Still works the same for me.
N.i.c.e. my most hyped game.cant wait word up son
@Sanquine A summer during which everyone is at home, and probably mostly inside too. It will be fine. Besides, late June or mid July, doesn't really make a difference now, does it?
@AdamNovice Till This point i do not care anymore. I feel that since Herman took over things went to s*** very fast.
@playstation1995 I'll Be Getting Both It's a Miracle I Was Able To Cut Through Most Of My Backlog Especially Being a Trophy Hunter On Top Of It
@Sanquine Do you mean the release of Titanfall 2? Cos that was Respawn's decision to release the game in between cod and Battlefield. Respawn wanted Titanfall 2 to go head to head against Call of Duty, and that Battlefield 1 was originally supposed to come out earlier (September-ish). But DICE had to delay BF1 and by the time that happened, it was too late to bump back Titanfall 2 because of various marketing deals they’d already put together. So BF1 wound up coming out right next to Titanfall 2, which made nobody happy.
Didn't even realise this had a release date to begin with. Or if I did know, I'd forgotten. But my hype for this disappeared when they showed the gameplay, as it looked too simplistic... I'll need to see more before I buy, so I guess it'll be after I see some footage on YouTube post-launch.
Still looking forward to this game. Zero interest in TLOU2 after the leaks. Another IP ruined by a cretin with an agenda. Well done, Cuckman
@Areus i got a lot of games on my backlog i need to finish.im still buying new ps4 games.haha.its the 👻 ghost playa.do u still have more backlog games.word up son
It's all good with me.
Both are day 1 purchases for me. Didn’t really care which came out first. At least these delays (providing there’s no more) mean we won’t have a barren gaming summer this year!
I hate seeing delays but if thats what it takes to make it closer to right the so be it. Was considering waitimg to play these game on PS5 most likely anyways. GoT all the way!!
Nope, I'm going to let this one cook. Give them a chance to fix any issues and slide that disk into a shiny new PS5 and I hope play at 60 FPS and in relative silence. I'm really hoping this is the crowning glory for the ps4. Next to CP77 its the only game I'm really excited for right now. I would wait for CP77 also but I just can't so I'll get it on the PC first to enjoy in all its glory.
@playstation1995 Yeah I Do A Majority Of Them Are PS3 Games That Just So Happen To Be On PS Now So I've Been Using The Service To Clear Out The PS3 Side Of My Backlog Without Plugging In My PS3
Disappointed it's delayed because this is easily my most anticipated PS first party game right now, but figured it was going to happen. All I ask is Sucker Punch keeps the leaks under control.
@Sanquine I'm actually looking forward to both but I would prefer to have GOT first
Not surprised, but gives me time to clear out my backlog a little.
It's just a 3 week delay for both. How in the world can you complain about this? With this whole virus thing going on, this seems very reasonable.
Lost my hype for TLOU2 so this will be the game I will buy first. Realy looking forward to this and the small delay will only make it better.
@Amin1998 There is literally more gameplay of this game than cinematics on YouTube. Just look it up.
I sincerely don't believe that's the reason for the delay. It's rather the entire The Last of Us Part 2 fiasco then anything else. A real shame.
