Ubisoft and Massive clearly want to keep players invested in The Division 2 throughout 2020. We know this because the developer just announced Warlords of New York -- a meaty looking expansion that's set to launch in early March. But with next-gen consoles expected to arrive at the end of the year, does Ubisoft have any plans to port the looter shooter over to PlayStation 5? Apparently not, according to an interview with Daily Star.
When asked if we'll see The Division 2 make the jump, associate creative director Yannick Banchereau said, "What I can tell you is that we are not making a specific version for those for those consoles, we are very much focused on just working on what we have now and making that as good as possible."
Would Massive or Ubisoft say anything if they did have a port in the works? At this point, probably not, but we only have the above comment to go on right now. Of course, we still don't know the ins and outs of how service games will be handled on PS5. The console will be backwards compatible with PS4 titles, but the finer details of how things will carry over remain a mystery.
What do you think will happen with games like The Division 2 moving to PS5? Will they just work, or will there be some kind of process? Feed us your thoughts in the comments section below.

Well I mean, would third party PS4 games run better on PS5?
Only if the game as is coded runs with say, a DRS in place.
Otherwise they have to patch specifically for the new spec rather than letting what is already there be impacted by the new hardware, via dynamic systems.
So I expect a lot of games will just run as is on PS4 Pro specifications.
Why would any game need a port by then. Shouldn't it just be backwards compatible?
i would expect service games to just work as is with backwards compatibility, your game/character data is stored on the games servers and the client will be the same, even if the host architecture has changed a bit.
seems a bit weird that backwards compatibility is seen as such a major thing, then one of the first things people ask about particular games is if it's getting a PS5 port.
Could PS4 games work on PS5 without any need for a specific version of the game being made?
I’m expecting it will be like a PC version where a low-end PC uses different specs to that of a high-end PC.
Maybe they just aren’t allowed to say much until Sony reveals everything.
I'm guessing all PS4 games will automatically run on the PS5 but won't look any different but maybe will run better if the PS4 version had frame rate issues. I think it will be pretty much be down to developers if they want to patch the game with a few graphical tweaks to make it look better (like switching from high to ultra on pc) or go the whole hog and rework a lot of stuff and make a separate PS5 version. I'd like to think it will be the patch method for many games and have a feeling Sony will definitely be doing it for their own first-party titles.
It will just work. They are probably already in the process of optimizing the code for PS5.
Should work with backwards compatibility, Division 3 exclusively to next gen consoles will be better anyway,
I don't see why it would need a port, the PS5 should be backwards compatible. So long as the servers are still up and running for the game there shouldn't be any issue.
Given how the game has died down a bit, it probably isn’t worth focusing on making it a real PS5 game, it’ll live with n through backward’s compatibility and people still playing on PS4. They’re probably more focused on making a Skull & Crossbones a part of the next gen as well as Siege. I’d also hope For Honor is brought into the next gen as well.
Clearly using the word port was intended. If it automatically can play on the ps5 and they release enhancements via online it's not a port, it is an update patch.
I am assuming it runs on PS5.
Why we wanted BC, so we do not need to buy the games we own again. I am hoping to just keep playing Monster Hunter World on my PS5 also.
