If Sony ever does decide to bring the Sly Cooper franchise back from the dead, it won't be doing it alongside Sanzaru Games anymore. That's because the developer of PlayStation 3 exclusive Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time has just been bought by Facebook for an undisclosed fee.
In a move similar to that of Beat Games, the studio will now develop games for the company's line-up of virtual reality headsets -- presumably based off the success it saw with the recent Asgard's Wrath. Largely considered to be one of the best VR titles not on PlayStation VR, it's a game covered in critical acclaim. The lead designer of Thieves in Time recently stated that if fans wanted Sly Cooper to return then they would have to kick up a fuss about it, stating: "We are always ready to dig into that and it was a great franchise to work on. It was a great project. So, all I can say is that if you guys want more Sly Cooper, let Sony know." That clearly isn't going to happen anymore.
Are you disappointed to see the developer snapped up by Facebook? Were you hoping it would get another shot at making a Sly Cooper game? Mourn in the comments below.

I'm sad there won't be a return from Sly but I already had him put to rest in my heart next to Jak and other classic IPs that are dead now.
Yeah we should probably accept that Sly is probably done especially after this. Who would even make Sly now?
There's always a chance, it's just enough people have to demand it. I just wonder with Shawn Layden gone whether those games will come back.
Next game: Sly Cooper Private Information Thief.
Thieves in Time was a good send-off. Too bad that show never panned out? At least I think it was cancelled...
Sony should of bought sanzaru games a long time ago.sly Cooper thieves in times was one of my favorite games ever.word ☝ up son
Sad about this, cause I liked TiT but Sly isnt profitable enough for Sony to assign a first party studio to do another and I dont see them outsourcing it to anyone other than Sanzaru.
Little to no chance, but bluepoint would make a kick ass sly Cooper remake/remaster for this or next gen
I do miss me some Sly Cooper.
As an Oculus Quest daily user though... this is fantastic news.
Good. They made decent fan game with a bigger budget. If we get another Sly game it needs to bring the series to a new age with the same quality as 2&3. We don’t need another lesser version of 2&3.
I would love a new game though. Sly is my favorite platforming series.
Sucker punch could still do them though as they did the original trilogy so not all is lost.
Sanzaru made a better Sly game than Sucker Punch managed since 1 when it was like Crash. Thieves in Time was great fun, 2 and 3 were not.
Sly is secretly PlayStation’s best platforming mascot. This is a shame.
This is really disappointing news.I loved Sly and always thought there was a chance he would turn up again, but what can ya do eh?
I could see Insomniac doing a Sly Cooper game.
@nookie_egg All they did was copy Sly 2 and 3.
It really is sad that Sony never let them make a Sly 5. Now we'll probably never get it. The other problem is if Sony is serious about PSVR going forward they need to start buying more talent. They barely have any studios making PSVR games as it is and they just shut down one of them. Then you have Facebook buying a lot of the best VR developers out there in Owlchemy, Beat Studios, and now Sanzaru.
Who wants Sly when you have Knack baby. The only platformer anyone will ever need.
That's a shame. I really liked the game. I hope Facebook doesn't ruin them.
@PSfan4Life22 I agree, I am shocked Sony hasn't picked up any studios for psvr!!!
I hope this make Sony ginger up and start securing studios again. If it's not Microsoft it could be Facebook, Tencent or worse.
Sly 1 was my first ever platinum trophy. I miss it but realised when we didn't get one game on ps4 that the series was done. Shame as it was good fun. Especially Carmelita's changing accent every game 🤣
This saddens me greatly, had a fun time playing thru the series on PS3.
