Wont play outlast as I'm a pussy and already own Nioh but for me to say im unhappy with the selection would be wrong as they are bother suppose to be pretty good so im happy for the folk yet to play either or both. A strong month.
Well, I've already played Nioh, but I'll give Outlast 2 a go if I get chance. Decent month.
i was excited to see Nioh as I have hear great things, then I read more into it and it is a Souls clone and that is a series that I cannot get into
@ZeD it is definitely a Souls clone, but it also sets itself apart in many ways. The combat is more fast paced and can vary because of stances. There’s also individual missions as opposed to one large map. I find it more inviting and forgiving than Souls as well. I love Souls games, but I actually enjoy Nioh more. It’s worth a try at this price tag.
@ThePathsofPain is it a clone of the "git gud" model of keeping trying the same part over and over? If so, still a no go. Not to sound like a casual 🤣 but I have limited tim to play these days
@ZeD What? Clone? Nioh has Unique Gameplay and incredibly accessible for Everyone! beside that, it s gameplay is so Fun...
@parvaz1 This very site's review states the gameplay loop is practically identical to Dark Souls, but it's the ways in which Nioh differs from the Souls series that are the most compelling
It is the game play loop that puts me off, but....
it is "free" so might as will give it ago
I'll redownload Nioh to play as William in the Nioh 2 beta. He's my boy.
Outlast is really really boring to me. I just don't care at all about what I'm doing when I played it.
Usually it's the indie game that I'm looking forward to but this month I definitely prefer the look of Nioh. No surprise I suppose, considering the avatar.
@ZeD
You have Plus. Summon a dude to help you. They'll leave and you'll never see them again afterwards, they'll get a reward and everyone's happy.
This site is completely wrong about the gameplay loop if it said it's identical to Dark Souls. It doesn't take much to "git gud". Whenever I see people that are "bad" it's fundemental stuff like pressing a single button (R3) to lock on to an enemy.
Just start out locking on, and then dodging and hitting and it becomes very easy to get progressively and progressively better. The difficulty comes from how punishing it can be, but you get Guardian Spirits to greatly mitigate that, and of course co-op.
It's similar to Dark Souls, for sure, but there is a heavy emphasis on loot and character builds with not only enhancing your attributes, but learning and slotting techniques. Think more like Diablo in terms of the overall loop.
Looking forward to Nioh. Was going to buy it for the longest time, but I'm glad I waited.
@Constable_What is the summon some one on your friend's list or random?
Would you say it has hack and slash style game play? i like that genre
I won't be playing Outlast but Nioh is one of my fave games this gen. I like the selection just for the fact that it's made me want to go back and play some more of it. Maybe I'll do some more of the DLC or finally even get the plat.
That's it @ZeD
You and me are going to run it together!
@ZeD
It's more methodical, you can chain combos together, but I wouldn't say hack and slash. With lock on, it does have a lock on, you are meant to position and reposition yourself so that when you are fighting groups, you can focus on one enemy at a time.
You have to dodge or block or you'll will die pretty easily, and watch your stamina.
So basically you wait for an attack, you dodge it, and then you hit the enemy back. Once you learn what they do and are more comfortable around them you can mop them up in a shower of body parts samurai movie style. If you that movie also showered the protagonist with loot.
That's the core aspect of progression. Loot and building a character. The game has been out for a while, so if you don't have a lot of time there are a ton of simple guides that will tell what to slot, but a lot of the fun comes from experimenting.
I think the best skills to invest in for a newcomer is ninjutsu and katana or axe. They're easy to grasp as you aquatint your self with the three different basic stances (up, middle, low) in the game.
You can summon friends. It's all explained in game! The game does a good job at getting you aquatinted with all the mechanics, but there are techniques that can be mastered and they take practice.
@ZeD trust me, I’m in that same boat, so I get not wanting to waste your time. It does have a similar motto of try and try again, but it’s far more accessible and less punishing than the Souls games are. The combat is faster paced and more action oriented, in my opinion. I still think it’s worth trying out, but it’s not for everyone.
Wouldn't say I'm unhappy, though I won't be playing either of them, I'm glad people are mostly excited about the plus games instead of the typical response.
@Constable_What ok last question lol
Is it possible to pick up and play when ever?
I am lucky to play once or twice a week for a couple of hours at the moment.
Thanks for your input 👍🏻
@ZeD
Haha, no problem!
Yep! The game is structured into missions rather than an interconnected world like Dark Souls.
Additionally there are checkpoints that mark your progress in a level (you respawn there when you die), and the game autosaves constantly (usually when you pick up an item).
Each mission can vary in length from around 10 mins to over an hour, and you can tell (kinda, there are exceptions)if a mission will be short or long by seeing if it's a main mission or not.
If you don't want to play that mission for any reason, you can use an item to take you out of it.
@ZeD If difficulty is your concern then yes, be concerned.
Nioh is good! But I already have it. Don't care about Outlast at all.
@ZeD the main story of nioh really isnt that hard at all, and when u get stuck u can always get some help. To answer your queation about pick up and play, yes ita structured good for that. If u enjoy the game and get into it i would suggest trying out the dlc for it, some of the missions are brutally hard but really alot of fun. I hate to say this but i probaly like nioh more than DS. The loot system makes it so much fun.
Im Ok with the titles I added them to my library. I'm in no rush to play them. I really don't know if I eve will.
@ZeD I like it better then the original. 😉
Its the one i tried and got better without get annoyed.
not going to play Outlast 2, i didn't even like the first one (and if i remember correctly that was on PS+ at one time too) but i'll be playing the hell out of Nioh
I already own Nioh but will be happy to add Outlast II for free.
Nioh has been out for so many years and has been on sale so many times on the Playstation store that I think any people even remotely interested in the game will have owned it by now. Outlast 2 is for a niche audience.
results will always be skewed a bit by the old lurkers who come here for the negative reasons.
Would have preferred if the other prediction for this month came true(which was Horizon Zero Dawn). In fact a lot of people have pointed out how strange it is for Sony to be giving us Outlast 2 when Halloween has already passed. Which makes a lot of people, including myself, wonder if they swapped out HZD for Outlast 2 because people successfully predicted what games they were going to be giving us. In either case, I would've preferred getting HZD instead of this crap.
Yea really happy with getting games always over a year old
Great games for the month, really looking forward to playing Nioh. Don't worry about people complaining though, some people will never be happy no matter what. If you gave them a $60 AAA game that just released a week ago, they would still find something to complain about.
