Borderlands: The Handsome Collection just hit PlayStation Plus, bringing with it two games from the franchise to subscribers for free. However, which game should you play first? The Pre-Sequel is a bit of an odd name, so it's understandable to be confused about which title to start first. Don't worry, though, we're on hand to help.
Should I Play Borderlands 2 or The Pre-Sequel First?
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel mostly takes place in-between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, but you should play Borderlands 2 before diving into The Pre-Sequel. This is because Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel's introduction and ending actually take place after Borderlands 2. Much of the game is told through flashbacks to before the second entry, but contains spoilers for Borderlands 2, especially during the intro and its conclusion. Dialogue also contains spoilers for the events of Borderlands 2.
Because of this, we recommend you play Borderlands 2 before Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

Pro-tip: Don't play Pre-Sequel. You're better off playing multiple characters in BL2.
Thank you for posting this. I was meaning to check on this question before diving in.
I enjoyed the Pre-Sequel but the later locations in the game don't half have some confusing level design. It's worth it for anyone who liked Handsome Jack from B2.
A melee Athena was pretty cool to play as.
@turntSNACO For whatever reason, I really don't like BL2. I'd take the Pre-Sequel over 2 any day. Neither are great like the original, but 2 feels like a walking simulator to me. I spent more time traveling around than shooting things in the face..... the DLC in 2 is fantastic though.
i got this pack in a sale a month or so back and i'll be honest, i didn't like it, i found the whole game boring even when playing in a party, it got to a point where me and my mates just messed around instead of actually playing the game and that was the only time we had any fun with it
it was pretty lackluster in my opinion
@NathanUC Weird, I feel exactly the opposite. From the beginning of PS you're jumping across huge stretches of empty moon. And then there's that mission to get the AI where the little boy sends you running back and forth across the same area for like an hour. I love the classes in PS and there's some great moments, but it sure can be slog.
I finished B2...should I play the B2 DLC (or) The Pre-Sequel next?
@turntSNACO this
While I'm all for a good plot, I'm not sure if Borderlands will be my cup of tea. I started it up yesterday but is there a way to skip past all the initial cutscenes so I can get to trying the game?
I've pressed every button on the DualShock for varying amounts of time but it just keeps telling the story! Perhaps I should start it and leave the room for half an hour?
