Stan Lee, who played a huge role in making Marvel what it is today, has sadly passed away. Lee was 95 years old, and is credited with creating and co-creating numerous superheroes, most famously Spider-Man.
While this technically isn't news relevant to PlayStation, one of our favourite games this year, PS4 exclusive Marvel's Spider-Man, obviously wouldn't exist with out Stan Lee and the comicbook empire that he helped form.
He may no longer be with us, but there's no doubt that he's left behind an incredible legacy.

Oh no, thatโs terrible. Heโll definitely have a legacy of creations to let him live-on though. Iโll definitely miss his camoes in all the Marvel movies. Those were always pretty funny.
Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!
Now I'll always think of PS as the place I found out Stan Lee passed away. Better than Twitter I suppose.
RIP Stan Lee, Excelsior.
As he said in Spider-Man 3 "You know, I guess one person can make a difference, nuff said."
RIP Stan Lee and thank you for all the wonderful memories I've had these past 11 years as a Marvel fan.
Wow, 95 is a grand age to get to. R.I.P Stan, and thank you for your creativity ๐
@rjejr it's a good job you didn't see it on twitter, some of the posts on there are horrible, for example i saw one post where someone had said "At least he won't be showing up in any more Marvel movies"
that is downright sick
Dam this is really saddening RIP Stan Lee we are all going to miss you ๐
I'm so so sad it's like he was from my family!
I was just yesterday playing Lego Marvel Super Heroes and I know this is stupid but he was screaming for help in the game and I didn't have the proper character to melt the ice and now I'm sad I didn't save him! My objective now is to platinum the game in his honor!
Let's all remember the cameos, the games, the movies that came because of him!
Rip, Mr. Lee!
RIP mr Lee.
may you live on in the afterlife and be surrounded by your favourite heroes.
Very sad but what a guy and his body of work has reached so many people and are as popular as they ever were.
Hopefully him and Steve Ditko can share memories together again. So long true believer.
RIP Stan Lee, a legend ๐๐พ
That's sad, though 95 is a pretty good age. It was always fun keeping an eye out for his cameos in the Marvel movies.
Rest in peace! ๐
@FullbringIchigo That's what the world has come to, isn't it? Nobody keeps their evil negativity inside anymore, it all has to be aired in public. Civility is dead. Freud knew.
@rjejr Social media did it, it gave them a platform from which people can spew their bile with no repercussions
Nooooooo! Thatโs so sad ๐ญ
@FullbringIchigo oh geez Iโm gonna be getting in some twitter arguments later ๐
@ztpayne7 honestly i wouldn't bother, it obvious they are just trying to get people to argue with them
the best way to defeat Trolls is to not feed them
Just to put into perspective just how huge of an impact he had in comics these are just some of the characters he created/co created:
Spider-Man
Daredevil
Iron Man
Ant-Man
Black Widow
Captain Marvel
Fantastic 4
Doctor Doom
Doctor Strange
Wilson Fisk
The Incredible Hulk
Nick Fury
Galactus
Hawkeye
Groot
Thor
Loki
She-Hulk
Silver Surfer
The X-Men
And The Avengers!
That's not even including various villains and support characters he created for many of these characters.
RIP. An absolute legend. I'll miss his cameos.
That's so sad to hear.He was such a legend and I always enjoyed his cameos in the marvel films/shows and games. As a Lego character he was especially great!
RIP Stan you will be missed.
I mean... he was 95. Can't say I'm surprised. I'm grateful for what he created and happy that he made some (if not all) of his dreams come true. Here's to younger people getting the chance to show their creativity the way he did.
I will miss his cameos, though.
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L For me it's quite different. Robin was much younger, couldn't get many jobs, was in pain due to illness, had to do tv, something he didn't like and his show got cancelled anyway. Was a pretty heavy blow for a legend.
The worst thing I know that Stand Lee was going through was some legal(?) fights with his family(?). Not heartbreaking, but still not great since they were going up until recently. Some people are heartless. I would never pressure a 95 year old person to do anything.
I'm honestly so upset. Marvel comics and movies were everything for me growing up. I was 8 when Iron Man came out and I've seen every MCU movie since with my mum. That got me into comics and I've absorbed both the classics and ongoing series. Stan 'The Man' Lee was responsible for a lot of that. RIP.
He is a legend.
@FullbringIchigo Social media gave them the platform, but I was on AOL in the 90's and it wasn't this bad. As my wife likes to say, nobody can have conversations any more, only arguments. There are no discussions, only insults. You either agree or you attack. Nobody can just say "that's cool" or "whatever" and let it go at that. I'd settle for a "smh" where deemed appropriate, but even that isn't enough for people most days.
I remember in the early 90's when everybody started saying "my bad" and I really hated the poor grammar, hated it, and swore never to use that expression, and I kept waiting for the saying to go away and for people to just go back to saying "sorry" again. But it never went away, more and more people just started using it in every situation. Up until a few years ago when it kind of went away, b/c "my bad" is sort of a shorthand apology, and nobody apologies anymore, b/c nobody takes responsibility or admits any wrongdoing any more, just denials. Admitting guilt or apologizing is a sign of weakness, and when the whole world is in attack mode, nobody can afford to look weak. The blood is in the water, social media especially is one big feeding frenzy. So everyone gets attacked, even the dead.
I'm kind of staying off twitter today b/c I can only imagine all the howls of joy and laughter due to all those celebrity homes burning down in Malibu. I'm working class, and I have no great sympathy for rich expensive homes, but at least 30 people have died in those fires, it's not the time for Nelson's "ha ha" but I'm sure there are a lot of them out there. So I'm not the least bit surprised Stan Lee is being raked over the coals by some.
But the really sad part is, I see no way to get back. The tide always turns and the pendulum always swings, but I'm not sure what brings civility back. Maybe Gen Z in another 10 years, the Millennials are all too broken from 9/11 and the Great Recession, but it will probably take that long.
Sorry so long, Stan Lee passing may have gotten to me more than I previously thought.
well stan. Ill tell you somthing my 3 year old has asked santa for a big spiderman that he can cuddle when he goes to sleep at night. Along with spiderman lego and pyjamas
He didn't die. He just completed life.
This is genuinely so upsetting. Stan Lee was an inspiration. Not just to me, but people around the world. You showed that no matter what life throws at you, you can always beat the odds, regardless of your background or circumstances. You inspired millions around the world through your creations and children will forever laugh, play and cherish them. If thats not a legacy, i dont know what is. Excelsior sir! And rest in peace. A life well led, which will never be forgotten.
For those asking about cameos in marvel movies, Stan had already filmed avengers 4 and possibly captain marvel and spiderman 2 so who knows where he will pop up! He tended to do his cameos in batches because he wasnt comfortable flying.
I wish his family the best, Awesome man with a Awesome career.
What an outstanding man, thank you Stan lee for getting me into marvel and all things nerdy
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L I see what you mean. Yeah, that makes perfect sense.
I chose this picture of snow angel Daredevil, because of the fact that Stan Lee in the last few years lost his eyesight himself.

@rjejr @FullbringIchigo
Sadly that was hardly the worst I saw on Twitter. You have the typical dipsh*t 20 or younger crowd who think they know it all calling the guy a white supremacist this that and the third. The same f**king idiots who would call somebody like my grandfather, who actually fought in WW 2, a Nazi because his political leanings and the way he views the world is different than their dumba$$es. So sick of ignorant little pieces of crap like that and they get encouraged by the morons this country votes into office.
@FullbringIchigo haha yeah I know.
@Gamer83 Wow it must've been really bad for you to get riled up. He was a 95 year old white guy, he's probably been and said a lot of things, probably committed the sin of pre-marital sex, smoked, drank alcohol, fornication and maybe even living in sin, probably told some off-color jokes; but he's dead now, not really the time to bring it up, he can't apologize, defend himself or change his evil ways, so what's the point besides being a lousy person?
First I lost Kirby, and even though I was very young, his loss was a heavy one to me. This year I lost the other two, Ditko and Lee... Now the reality of losing them is crushing me in a way I never believe it could, losing all three of them made me realize that it's over, it's officially over, now I feel empty and the ones that inspired me are no more.
@Jaz007 We'll probably see him in Avengers 4, Spider-Man Far from Home and Captain Marvel since those were done filming already.
@Zuljaras The word legend is thrown around a lot these days, but this is one of the rare occassions where itโs justified.
RIP stan you will live on forever. I was lucky enough to meet you and got to experience some of your genius.
@rjejr
I'm just so sick of the stupid talking points. Any time it involves a rich, older white dude these days it's always something about the evil white man, and all this other sh*t and it's just getting beyond annoying. I used to not care but people these days are using words and handing out labels that they don't know a damn thing about and it's happening far, far too often.
Rest In Peace, Legend.
And thanks for all the great memories. Your art inspired many.
Rest in peace, Stan Lee, your creations will live on forever.
Now I hope to see digital cameos of Stan in every Marvel videogame. =)
I just got into the MCU this year, and I loved almost all the movies I watched. Spider-Man was an amazing game too. I may not have as much of a connection to Marvel comics as many people, but I really do appreciate Stan Lee for making it all possible. Rest in piece, man.
RIP Stan Lee, he live a good life, with many people loving him, and leaving the world at the age of 95 ๐๐ป
See you on the other side, Mr Lee. Long may your legacy live on.
The man is a legend. Rest in peace, Mr. Stan Lee.
@Gamer83 Got it. Well at least things seem to be going fairly well on here. Nobody has called me out anyway, and I'm a fairly easy target.
I had to do a double take when I saw the news earlier. I just couldn't believe it.
To say Marvel Comics has had a large impact in my life would be an understatement. Spider-Man in particular was and still is my favorite superhero. I remember growing up looking at Spider-Man and the X-Men and wishing I could be as heroic as they were. Even today I still feel inspired by superheroes, and Stan the Man had a big part in that. It taught me that even guys like me can be a great person.
And while yes, he was alive for nearly a hundred years and undoubtedly lived a full life, he's also been around for so long that him leaving this world is still a surreal thing.
Rest in Peace, Stanley Leiber.
-Sincerely, A True Believer.
@get2sammyb Indeed. The last time I saw him was when I played Spider-Man. It was so heart warming to hear how much he loved his creations.
He's one of the guys I hoped would live for another 50 years at least.
He was a living legend and will remain a legend forever through his creations.
@rjejr one of the few websites where things stay pretty cool most of the time. That's why I enjoy being a part of this great community.
@Enuo I love this comment.
I remember being a kid and having this video with Spiderman and Fantastic Four on it, with Stan Lee doing the narration at the beginning and end of the episodes. I must have worn that tape out from watching it so much.
He made such an indelible imprint on my childhood, and millions of others, and it's just not right to be cynical about something so pure and good. RIP.
Rest in Peace Mr. Stan Lee, you helped create some of my favorite iconic superheroes and comics, you shall never be forgotten.
