Japanese Sales Charts: Mega Man X Dashes into Number 1 on PS4

"The Nintendo domination of the last few weeks has finally come to an end,"

As a multiplatform release took number 1 on PS4, and the 8 games below were all Nintendo. :thinking:

Dunno. Doesn't sound like domination ending to me. Still, the X Collection did terribly. Granted it doesn't help the second one is decidedly crap. Like, seriously crap. Every one of those games has fundamental design problems.

At least Japan got a physical release of both on all systems instead of the weird mix and match or digital only showing elsewhere in the world.

Think we can also say Octopath Traveler wants that PS4 release sooner rather than later.

I got it on Switch. It deserves the sales for being a collection of some of the best action games ever (barring X7...and somewhat X6 which I still enjoyed okay). I'm loving X8. When's my X9, Capcom?

Look, right, we are here to discuss the industry and PlayStation. Nintendo and Microsoft, and Apple and Google and Valve, all have an impact on Sony. To not bring that up in reasonable discourse regarding sales would be isolating oneself in a bubble and I just know someone like you loves that little bubble where you feel safe but unfortunately for you this is a wide open internet where people can speak about and discuss what they want so long as it is on topic, and as your article that you wrote on your site brings it up, low and behold, it's a topic of discussion.

But sure, I can manage to not mention Nintendo for an entire week on this website. That's easy. I could simply not be here, not comment and simply read, avoid the forums where people discuss Nintendo in appropriate threads.

@Giygas_95 X9 won't happen unless 11 does well, and even then, Capcom has been riding the good will wave for a while now. It'll be Mega Man that trips them up, just like before.

Well after yesterday quarterly reports, we all know how little the Japan Hardware charts matters to PS4 success. So skipping that 😉

Maybe now NIS will go make a new Disgaea. Disgaea 1 complete fail on PS4 and didn't even chart for Switch. At $49 this will Fail in the US also - there 5 NEW AAA games in October for $10 more.

@NintendoFan4Lyf Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2 is 2 discs on PS4 and THAT OTHER platform where THAT version has the caveat of one collection (the second X Collection) will cost you precious space on THAT console which is only 32 GB initially without Micro SD Cards.

It's only in the US where one is physical, and Europe gets none. It's a sliding scale.

I think the real story here is that the Disgaea 1 Remake completely bombed.
Having said that, at least the PS4 version charted.

@NintendoFan4Lyf tbh idc w the storage I mean heck even 500GB on PS4 doesn’t seem to cut it anymore and as we jump into the world of 4K only or go into 8K; Systems will have to be 2-10TB+.

@Derpie1 2 TB drives are really cheap now even i can install it. Dont forget to to make a backupno idea if you have fast internet. I just back-up the saves and the screenshots for the trophies. And just install the games again. 😁

@Derpie1 I don't mind the exclusivity. The Switch essentially replaces the Vita for NIS, but they have been a bit crappy towards PS lately (both consumer & the corporation).

@Flaming_Kaiser They're charging full price for the D1 remake (£50)! I can only imagine how bad the CEs are.
They've already had a lot of the assets ready due to D5 and its DLC.

Soo, 3rd party games (mmx lc) still sold better on ps4

@Fight_Teza_Fight Nisa need to price it's games/remaster/remake better, maybe it's better to sell the games a little cheap ($30-$40) but with $80-100 special edition.

Nice to see a ps vita game in the top 10.

Anyway, if Ys VIII and Disgaea 5 are any indication, I expect this will ultimately sell more on PS4 in Japan and more on Switch in the West.

Which is becoming a curious trend. Western Switch owners seem much more interested in Japanese third party games, by and large, than their Japanese counterparts.

Well it's not surprise that mega man x did better on PS4, only first party titles from Nintendo and exclusives find success on Nintendo systems

I’ve never been able to get into Mega Man games. I don’t hold any nostalgia for them as never played them when they first came out. I recently tried getting into both Megaman 2 and Megaman X, but found him quite slow and cumbersome to control. I struggled with not being able to aim diagonally or upwards.

I was similar with Castlevania, could never get into them, but thankfully that changed a couple of years ago and I am now a big fan of that series. There are some great games with great music too.

Maybe one day I’ll come back to Mega Man and it will click.

@Derpie1 True I forgot indies, but I'll would argue that the only reason they did great was because lack of first and third party games like always on a Nintendo system

@GKO900 who knows I have an idea what they may be doing it’s actually similar to what Sony was doing w the beginning of PS4. Work on games & let what third parties they have release stuff if willing. What do I believe I could nod w that one article Push Square once did a while ago asking if THAT TABOO company should no longer make consoles and bring thier games to all other platforms including PS4 & such but hmm I’m always in wonder what justifies this company in making gaming hardware? I’d like that company to speak with results what is thier justification in making gaming hardware when you can question why are they even doing so when there’s 3 other options & one of them being PlayStation. (And before anyone tells me thier latest numbers let’s wait another 4 years and see what at the bare minimum 5 years this console from THAT company can sell)

@GKO900 I didn't acknowledge your claim as a fact. I said it was "demonstrably false." It helps to actually read the posts you're responding to.

Anyway, a claim like this would have been true during the Wii U era, but third party devs (aside from independent developers) have been seeing great sales with their games. DB Xenoverse 2 sold very well. Games like Disgaea 5 and Ys VIII have actually been selling better in the West on Switch than they did on PS4. Capcom said at least half of RE Revelations 1 and 2's sales were on Switch, which means those were the best-selling versions of those games.

All the limited data available suggests that Japanese third party games have been thriving on the Switch so far. Don't be surprised if the Mega Man X Collection sells more on Switch in the West as well.

@Derpie1 While I agree that the first years of the PS4 were a little week Sony did put some great games like Infamous Second Son and Killzone Shadow Fall so they didn't let other companies pick up the slack like you say, as for the hardware and Nintendo going third party, well lets be honest Sony makes better hardware than Nintendo and as a consumer I would like to just buy one console and have everything in the the best one

@Ralizah oh sorry I mixed up my reply to you. 😝 But I still think that while those games that you mention sold good same can be say for the PS4 counterparts, like Ys VIII for example was a mess in the PS4 when it released and I think it still was a mess in the Switch lol, DB sold good in PS4 too the same for Disgaea 5 just look Disgaea 1, as for RE well those games have been released everywhere since the PS3 era and for Nintendo fans it's the first time they get to play RE revelation 2 so I think capcom its playing with those numbers my point is that right now the Switch is on the Hype wave on Japan but who knows how long it's gonna last especially for third party

My feel is if I want the best platform I’d sell my soul to the PCMR...

Do I hate any of the 3 Console Manufacturers? No. 2 of the 3 give me a reason to care for thier platforms & Console gaming in general. And the 3rd one I’ll root for it to do well as competition still matters in this industry and while I understand your want of everything on one platform I’d rather no monopolies come forth.

@Derpie1 I know what you mean about a monopoly but don't Nintendo fans say Switch it's not competing against PlayStation and Xtrash and that Nintendo are doing there own thing rather than been the same console like the others if that's the case might as well go third party, I like Nintendo games but not there hardware just look at all the issues Switch has, that thing is neither a True home console it's too underpower and too big for a handheld with poor battery, no Dpad, it gets to hot to the point of getting cracks apparently, joy con disconnections, no save backups to SD, low memory, no internet, no apps I mean come on the thing it's a Tablet, poor UI and more stuff that maybe I would be to nitpicking like the fact that I don't care about the idea of the joy cons for sharing so not competent in my opinion, as for Xtrash while it took them 3 tries to get right but if I was a Xtrash owner I would feel bad knowing that I have the worst console of the Xtrash family and that they recently released the Xtrash X making the original Xtrash worthless.
So not trying to be a fanboy or anything but when it comes to Home Consoles PlayStation has always been the King having the best hardware, third parties and exclusives

@GKO900 in the end whether that Taboo company wants it or not same w that Taboo company’s fans THAT company is competing for the interest of the consumer. They want you to be interested in buying into thier ecosystem, thier games, etc.

Will they ever drop consoles? Well hope THAT console flops and THAT Taboo company loses lots of money and then they may have to consider it.
