Want to know something crazy? We played Dead Island 2 about four years ago. The demo was like this co-op zombie horde thing, and frankly it wasn’t very good, but we absolutely spent some time with it. Since then, the project has been handed to a different developer (Sumo Digital) and presumably rebooted behind the scenes.
And according to the franchise’s official Twitter, it’s still in production. Responding to a disgruntled fan, here’s what the community team had to say: “It's in development and we won't be showing more until we're ready. Appreciate the wait is painful, but Dead Island 2 is still coming.” As the ol’ GIF goes: well, we’re waiting.
Sumo Digital is seriously busy these days, as it’s also working on Crackdown 3 and Team Sonic Racing, in addition to its own original projects. We wouldn’t be overly surprised if Dead Island 2 was on the backburner a bit, and with Dying Light 2 announced at E3 2018, it’s going to need to be good when it is finally re-revealed.

I was really looking forward to this one when it was originally going to come out. But, I feel like they've just missed the boat a little bit now. Especially with Dying Light 2 and Days Gone coming out next year.
I remember umming and arring about buying Dead Island when it first released back on the PS3, due to reading some mediocre reviews (I think) at the time. Decided to take the plunge and bought it eventually......sooo glad I did, as I absolutely loved it! Riptide was more of the same, but still enjoyable.
Hopefully, Sumo Digital will develop a worthy sequel...and like you indicated, Sammy, with Dying Light 2 on the horizon, assuming it will continue the quality of it’s predecessor, Dead Island 2 will really need to be on par, at the very least m’thinks.
Like a decaying Zombie, put this game out of it misery.
This series just seems so unnecessary now. Techland moved on to make Dying Light, where it managed to completely blow its previous game out of the water, and now we have a sequel coming I just don't see how Dead Island fits in. I did enjoy the first game but Riptide was pretty poor and with the incredibly troubled development of this, what can we really expect from it now? I like Sumo Digital but they'll have to really pull out all the stops to get me interested in this again.
I forgot all about this. I played the 1st game and I couldn’t really get into it.
The trailer of the first game is one of the best I've ever seen. Too bad the actual game was nothing like it.
I enjoyed the first one and riptide with friends, but I care more about dying light and now its soon to be sequel
Well that E3 2014 teaser certainly got me all excited. Then nothing, but then we got Dying Light which is as good as any DI2 may be.
Maybe a gazzilion other zombies games but Dead Island 2 still interests me. I found DI and Riptide fun so a sequel could also be fun.
@Undead21 Oh I'm sorry, has my opinion somehow offended you?
Dying light was so amazing i can only see part 2 being goty level.
Just cant see dead island 2 being up to par. Hoping to be pleasantly surprized
Sumo digital should stick to making amazing kart racers, as soon as dying light 2 details get out deep silver will be barking at them to copy them into dead island 2.
@Undead21 That's enough. If you can't comment nicely to other users then don't comment at all.

If you can't follow the rules then you will.habe to go else where I am afraid.
Thanks for understanding
Dang, my first thought when I saw this was "it hasn't come out yet?" I remember this thing being announced. I don't see much good coming out of it after being in development hell. Games with much more going for them haven't come out unharmed or desolated afterwards.
@Tasuki umm sweetheart i didn't threatened and I didn't cust you out calm yourself pumpkin
