It's when conversation begins to circulate about next generation hardware that we start to see concept art from designers, whether professional or not. French designer Joseph Dumary has released a few images of what he thinks the PlayStation 5 will look like, and gives some detail on how it will work, too.
Dumary's PS5 design is fully wireless, using Air HDMI to send the picture to your TV over the airwaves. In its Eco Mode, the console will consume no electricity when in standby or when navigating menus. His DualShock design has a bulkier build and features a curved touchscreen at the centre, where you'll be able to access things like notifications and messages, as well as make purchases with your fingerprint.
The controller will be permanently charged via wireless charging technology maintaining a constant connection to the main box. It'll also have a "Stress Sensor" built into it, which will affect gameplay. The more stressed you are, the worse your in-game character will perform.
There's more on Dumary's portfolio, which you can view through the link. Of course, it's not a very realistic take on things, but it's fun to imagine what form the PS5 will take, and suggest some farfetched built-in technology.
What do you think of Dumary's PS5 concept? Come up with your own ideas in the comments below.

..."News"..?
You never know, I guess! (I hope not though, it's gross!)
nah i think Sony will drop the touch pad for the PS5, hardly any game uses it anyway and the Dreamcast tried a screen and it din't really do mush either
it's just a glorified "Select" button
oh and "NO DISC, NO BUY"
@kyleforrester87 Gross is right!
That controller is horrible - and the console is just a hacked up PS2 stuck to the top of a fat PS4.
Not particularly imaginative for this sort of thing.
the design looks nice but the controler does not.
the whole performance thing sounds way to far out there. stress sensor realy? wireless charging could work but the console being wireless itself is BS.
Some really neat ideas actually! Perma charged controller is a must!
No disc is a big no no, we know some people like the physical copies
@FullbringIchigo Dont agree i just think the developers are to lazy to use it in a original way. 😁
It's all nonsense, obviously, but it's always fun looking at these console concepts
@Flaming_Kaiser probably but then wouldn't that mean if the PS5 had one or a screen then the same thing will happen to it too?
Hmm interesting idea but no. One of the reasons I picked PlayStation over Xbox/pc in the beginning all the way back to 1995 was how light and easy the controller was. Stress sounds silly . Don't think the touch pad will be dropped thou. Loads of games use it
It looks ugly. And if I'm stressed, I'd want the game to go easy on me, not make things harder.
Not the most creative designers it seems.
Yeah... he clearly doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.
I mean it kinda just looks like a PS4.
@johnny30 i don't think that those games use it as intended though.
yes most games make it have a function, the function of the select button because the previous select button is now the share button.
they are better off just removing the touch pad and just make it a select button from the start without the motion tracker.
Ugh, that controller :/
Permanent wireless charge is the dream
Don't think the pad will be changed
No way Sony will go all digital for ps5
Looks a bit too similar to the PS4 imo but I actually quite like this design overall.
Not sure about its features though. Are any of these even possible within the next 10 years let alone 1 or 2?
As for the "stress sensor"... lol
That controller looks awful and uncomfortable for long play. Its not the symmetry but how close those thumbsticks are and how far away they are from the D-Pad and buttons. They must also be quite far away from the triggers to - thus making your thumbs at a more stretched angle.
You would after argue a reason to include a 'touch pad' especially one that was so oddly shaped. The very limited use - even in exclusives - as a touch pad more than just a 'button' is perhaps justification to drop it and it didn't help with battery life or cost either. The speaker at least added 'something'. I kind of hope though that Sony go more for an 'Elite' style - maybe a more plastic standard one to keep costs down but offer a 'Pro' (as Elite is more associated with Xbox) version.
The console itself is rather ugly and has characteristics from the PS4 with the sloping angle. I really hope they keep it more 'box' like as the slopes add unnecessary depth - the over hang at the front and back due to the slopes. Design may well be governed by hardware and the cooling system. As the X proves though, you can fit a LOT in such a little box and with 'high speed' as the vapour chamber seems very efficient. That being said, it still could depend on whether they go 'slow' and have lots of cores or go fast and have 'fewer' cores. By that I mean they 'could have a 60 core GPU with a 'slow' speed or a 50 core GPU with a higher speed to get the same result. I expect an 8core CPU but unlike the Jaguar's single thread, this will be at least 16thread. That, along with the better efficiency etc should more than double the CPU and its clocked at 3.2Ghz (the same as an XB360 CPU before anyone says that's unrealistic) you are more than quadrupling the CPU performance. Multi-thread support will also make it far better too as single tasks can be spread over all cores where as these are allocated to a 'core' so if that task is too intensive, it will bottleneck despite the majority of the CPU doing very little by comparison. Even a Zen clocked at 3.2Ghz isn't likely to be a 'heat' issue as these can be upclocked to over 4Ghz so the main issue will be the GPU, whether its a lot of cores and clocked 'slower' or lower cores clocked higher - the lower cores/higher speed option is generally cheaper but also generates more heat. No doubt it will be based on AMD's 64 core GPU's but to increase yield and lower cost, no doubt at least 4 cores will be disabled. A hypothetical 60core GPU clocked at 1000mhz would give around 7.68Tflops or you could have a 50core clocked at 1200mhz to give the same performance - so you can see the two different methods to achieve the same performance. Incidentally, the X runs at 1172mhz with a 40 CUDA core GPU to get 6Tflops but a 60 core GPU running at the same clock speed would give 9Tflops. This should show what is required for at least 'double' the Pro in GPU. Obviously the RAM will be built into the circuit board - probably around the APU
Anyway, the choice of hardware and how they plan to keep it cool is more likely to determine the size and shape of the console - where the vents will need to be - both for intake and 'exhaust'. Its much more important than designing a shape and then trying to fit those parts in. Then of course you have all the other parts - like bluray player, HDD, power supply (which will also need to be kept cool), ports (USB's, HDMI etc), as well as shielding for Wifi too.
I have seen quite a few 'different' designs - some that look incredibly slim, as in height, but I think that will be unrealistic due to components like the Bluray player and of course the cooling system but you never know. I just hope its Black...
I pre-ordered it on Ebay and I will receive next week.
That controller is a cross between the Ouya and Steam controllers, both of which were ugly before, this just makes it worse.
One of my predictions for PS4 was a wireless charger - not completely wireless, a mat on top of the PS4 where you'd place your DS4 to charge it - so I can't fault him there.
Everybody who voted for putting a Pager screen on your DS5 raise your hand.
I hope ugly fake PS5 designs dont' become a regular PS thing.
The wireless charging would be an excellent addition. I hope for backwards compatibility with DS4. New iterations of controllers only improved incrementally. I don't see the DS5 being any different. The console design itself looks nice and sleek.
Nope, the PS5 will be quite a departure from previous consoles, you will be able to wear it, all the time. Removing it without a Sony engineer present is not recommended!
@LieutenantFatman The DualShock 5 has finger print sensors that know if you've ever touched a non-Sony console and will shut down your house's electric if you have
@roe
Send those heretics back to the stone age!
#4ThePlayers
And that PS5 just looks like a pancakier iteration of the PS4 Pro.
No imagination at all!
@Lifestranding i know right.all digital sucks.physical disc is going to be in ps5.and that controller looks horrible.looks like a Xbox controller.no way son😱 Word up son
I don't think the dualshock will change that much honestly. Maybe slightly but why would you totally take away muscle memory for a space boomarang
Sacré bleu.
no... just no....
And why would anyone want real weather... especially if ya live in a place with crap weather, like say Cardiff which is the rainiest City in the UK apparently..
Some nice ideas and good work but.... no
lol... that was so lame and cringey. the creator hasn't got an ounce of knowledge or understanding of the console market. the idiot test: anyone who is striving for 8k gaming.
I like a lot of these ideas 😊
Keep in France with that controller.... Has he thought of holding it... stress sensor is cool, but gosh no and it really looks like a PS5. It’ll also be black if the last 3 are anything to go by. Doubt that’ll change.
Two pre-requisites: physical drive, controller with symmetrical sticks, or no buy from me.
My god, that controller is fooking ugly.
Okay and back in the real world this will have, won't look like dodgy Dave's PS4 Pro and the controller will just look like a PlayStation controller and certainly won't have a touchscreen. Whilst this French designer will continue to come up with nonsense and never actually design anything 😁
I'm hoping we get at least another 2 years before they announce PS5. It feels like there's still plenty of life left in the PS4
hope it has screen like that on the controller love that
Stress sensor sounds somewhat interesting from a gameplay perspective, at least, as is a Dreamcast-like controller. But much as I understand, some people's wiring woes... AirHDMI? For the expectedly continued reign and emphasis of bloated resolutions on PS5? Wouldn't data exchange speeds and input sync have to be through the roof for this? (I'm a complete noob in tech, of course, so that's not necessarily a rhetorical question)
Yeah I'll be honest the design of this mock up looks really... Like it's trying to be 'modern art'. That's not a good look for a console. I like how the PS4 visually looked similar to the PS2, with the layers but this doesn't do it for me. That controller looks like an eye sore, I don't want it to detect if I'm stressed or not!
maybe if it was going to cost 2 grand lol
I hate literally everything about this, even it being completely wireless. Why make a system so pricey with technology it doesn't need?
LOL
Didnt like the controller or the weird weather thing. Other than that it looked good. Not sure how it would pull it off and stay under 500$ but yeah. Good stuff. I would note that I especially liked the idea of the slide to turn on and off. Sometimes the button isn't as responsive as doing it through the system menu. I also liked the idea of fingerprint scanner to log in to my account. Frankly, it'd save time and make it easier for friends to sign into their accounts.
