All the arcade racers are finally beginning to drift onto PS4, a system that's been starved of the genre for years. Between WipEout Omega Collection, Burnout Paradise Remastered, and the upcoming Onrush and Trailblazers, things definitely seem to be making a U-turn in recent times. Joining the grid is GRIP, a futuristic combat racer inspired by the Rollcage series.
We've embedded the announcement trailer above, and it looks pretty interesting. You drive open-wheel vehicles across gravity-defying tracks, and are able to drive along walls and ceilings. There also appear to be a number of weapons at your disposal; we spotted rockets, machine guns, and pulse guns, as well as a shield. All fairly run of the mill, but the action looks intense.

"GRIP began as a passion project paying tribute to the great Rollcage games and racers of a past era, but it’s
now truly transformed into a fully-fledged, futuristic combat racer fit for this generation," Says Chris Mallinson, Game Director at developer Caged Element. "We’re extremely proud of the game and can’t wait to unleash it later this year on all platforms. Combat racing is back, baby."
No firm release date is set at the moment, but the game is due on PS4 this year. What do you think of GRIP? Are you enjoying the uptick in arcade racing games? Get a grip in the comments below.

So all the arcade racers come out at once. Dont sell as well as expected. Dont make arcade racers again until the back end of next gen. Rinse and repeat.
Oh look also available on the switch. Guess i'l grab it for the switch then.
Count me in on this one, I've been waiting for another Rollcage game for a long time now. Possibly my favourite racing games, ever.
Rollcage is amazing. Still my favourite futuristic racing series ever.
Plot twist: it's also not actually a "racing game".
I'd rather have a new Motorstorm
Rollcage rebooted? Yes please
YES PLEASE! This looks fantastic.
Remind of a classic ps2-1 game use to play
Yeah... I'll bite.
@themcnoisy Things always seem to come and go as fashions change. Things were getting a bit repetitive with the sim racer so its not surprising the arcade racer is coming back. Its like the 3D platformer is now likely to come back as the 2D platformer is getting a bit stale in the indie market at least...
With the disappointment of Onrush not being a traditional racer, I'm hoping this could be the arcade racer I've been looking for
Rollcage! Or at least lets hope it lives up to it - As an obvious spiritual successor..Fads will be fads but RC/RC Stage 2 was the bizness! Psygnosis R.I.P
Looks a bit like firebugs, that game was awesome on PS1. If they ever did a sequel to that I would buy it in a heartbeat! I don't buy many racing games but it really does look fun. If there isn't a big difference in performance I'll probably grab it on switch.
@starman292 Firebugs was essentially Rollcage 3. Never had the chance to play it but it's out there on ebay for not a lot.
I shouldn't think it's going to tax the switch too much. Doesn't look even as busy as MK8.
I loved Rollcage, it was a proper 90's game with a typically amazing 90's dance soundtrack. Just stupid amazing fun.
I did the Kickstarter for this and it got canned. Excellent to see it back up and running.
@KALofKRYPTON
Yeahh I did some research and people basically call it a spiritual successor. It was made by the same people too! I'm actually really looking forward to this now lol.
