God of War PS4 PlayStation 4 1

God of War is comfortably shaping up to be one of the visual treats of 2018, but that hasn’t stopped some forum frequenters to claim that the graphics have been downgraded. The criticism stems from a scene in the latest trailer, which is identical to the area shown at E3 2016. In the trailer, the location is lit differently, confirming what director Cory Barlog said about the section being in the final game but "different".

It’s taken a Sony Santa Monica artist, however, to rubbish claims that the title’s visuals have been dialled down. “What has changed is just the direction of light and fog, the content is the same as the E3 trailer, but different context, you will understand when you play,” said Raf Grassetti. “The Jormungandr, Kratos, and Atreus continue exactly like the trailer. I’m laughing seeing the comments.”

This seems to happen with all PlayStation 4 exclusive games at some point in their lifecycle; there were similar complaints levelled at Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Horizon: Zero Dawn. Funnily enough, both of those titles actually exceeded their original vertical slices, so there’s no doubt in our mind that God of War will drop jaws at launch, too.
