Ghost Recon: Wildlands Betas Brought in Over 6.8 Million Players

That's a lot of downed tangos

Ubisoft has revealed that the two Ghost Recon: Wildlands betas - that's the closed and open tests - managed to attract over 6.8 million players. That's a huge figure, eclipsing even For Honor's and The Division's pre-release efforts, making it the publisher's biggest ever beta phase. It'll be interesting to see how well the finished product sells.

We gave the open beta a go ourselves, and we glimpsed the potential for a very fun co-op experience. Wildlands launches for PlayStation 4 next week on the 7th March, but are you interested? Spot a small group of tangos in the comments section below.

Robert (or Rob if you're lazy) has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, he's played 'em all — a little too much, some might say.

That's pretty impressive. I thought Ghost Recon was done or something. Clearly I'm wrong.

No go for me, fun for a bit but I fear it will grow old very quickly much like The Division, which a friend say's is in a very good place atm with the update's and State of the Game, but it's to late for that game the damage has been done.

Wasn't hugely impressed, just seemed like Metal Gear Solid 5 if Ubisoft made it instead. Though the cutscenes had some amusing facial animations, made me think I was watching an episode of The Thunderbirds.

This game is going to be so bad. I came a away very dissapointed with the beta even playing with a friend. We both just laughed at how bad the AI and other jank was! Hopefully they delay this and add some much needed features like a dodge roll, an actual useful cover system that feels like it has weight, and either better music from radios or the option to disable radios entirely. Seriously, I destroyed every boombox I came across; the music is truly awful!

the beta put me right off to be honest. i don't think the open world setting suited it to be honest.. just felt like they'd lifted the soliders from the ghost recon franchise and put them in a par-for-the-course ubi-world.

@Constable_What I quite enjoyed the beta but I can definitely see where your criticisms are coming from. The radio in particular is absolutely terrible, to the point where the first thing you do when you get in a car is make sure that the radio is muted. I couldn't quite believe how bad it was.

I liked the the beta.
I don't normally play the run and gun games.
I also don't play first person shooters, so it was nice having a 3rd preson perspective.
The jokes that one npc kept making were hilarious.
I may get this, but not until after I've finished Breath of the Wild and this gets a discount...

@ShogunRok I would groove to that horrible (AMAZING) Mexican beeping song in GTA V, so if I can stand that but feel the need to destroy every radio I come across then I must think the music is not just truly awful (I was being kind in my previous post!) but a form of radioborne super virus the world has never seen before (which is par for the course in a Ubisoft Tom Clancy game, I reckon).

@Gold_Ranger I think my favorite joke was the one about the US retiring military generals and them getting a severance based on how their bodies get measured.
I'd tell the joke, but I'm pretty sure it'd get edited.

Oh what the heck!

The US government is making budget cuts and decides that it needs to retire some of its generals. So they get a USAF General, an Army General, and Marine General in a room and tell them the situation. They tell them
"Gentlemen the USA thanks you for your service, but unfortunately we can't afford to pay your salaries anymore. However we are prepared to give each of you a severance package based on a measurement of your body in inches. You can choose where we start and where we end. For every inch you get $10,000."
The Air Force General goes first. He's smart so he says he wants to be measured from head to toe.
They measure him and they come up with 70 inches. So he gets $700,000.
The Army General is next and says he wants to be measured from the tip of his right middle finger to the tip of his left middle finger while he spreads his arms.
They measure and get 80 inches. $800,000.
The Marine is next. He saunters over slowly and says,
"Okay maggots! I wanna be measured from the tip of my Willy to the base of my jewels!"
They all just stare at him. Like he's an absolute moron. The government guys say,
"Sir are you sure about that? Do you understand how this works? I thi--"
"Now don't give me any back sass you pukes! I said what I said, now do it like I said! From the tip of my Willy to the base of my jewels! Hop to it!"
They shrug, and with apprehension they slowly unzip his pants and pull down his underwear and begin to measure when they notice something a little odd.
"Uhhhhhh, sir? Where are your jewels?" They asked.
The Marine looked on unfazed and bellowed.
"I left them back in Vietnam!"
