Forget the future - the past is where it's at. Final Fantasy XV may be out later this year, but while you all sit there pondering whether or not it'll be a colossal disappointment, we'll be licking our lips in anticipation for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. And yes, it really is one of the best Final Fantasy games - naysayers be damned.
The PlayStation 4 remaster of the PlayStation 2 classic is due out in 2017, but aside from a neat announcement trailer, we haven't seen anything of the highly anticipated re-release. Thankfully, that's going to change next month when this year's Tokyo Game Show rolls around, as Square Enix has revealed that the remaster will be there in all of its 1080p glory. Mmmmmm.
The publisher will also be bringing along the likes of Rise of the Tomb Raider, World of Final Fantasy, and, of course, Final Fantasy XV. Alas, there's no mention of Dragon Quest XI on the company's website, but we certainly wouldn't count it out.
What games are you looking forward to seeing more of at Tokyo Game Show 2016? Look to the East in the comments section below.

FFXII is one of my favorites too! Already got this preordered.
I'll look forward to whatever it is they'll be showing of FFXII. Would also be nice to see a bit more of Nier: Automata, some Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization and Ni No Kuni II.
Some surprises would be nice too, like Level-5 announcing a Wrath of the White Witch PS4 remaster and SEGA popping up out of nowhere with a new Phantasy Star MMO for consoles (available to download as soon as the show ends). I can dream, can't I?
This and Final Fantasy VIII were the only two FFs I never finished but I spent hours monster Hunting, best part of the game will definitely pick this up when it's released.
Wheeeeey I knew there was something FF related I had forgotten. This, FF7, World of FF and hey even FF15. Nice.
I'd like to see the PC/Iphone version of FF9 ported over to PS4 this year, too.
YYYYYEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH - Anybody who ever played it
I assume they are putting this out before FF7? Seeing that they haven't said anything about it since its announcement trailer.
I hope the levelling is sped up a touch, the grind was a massive negative. Also the copy and paste graphics in the background best be looked at or will look quite dated.
I can't think of (m)any Final Fantasy games that would rank lower on my list of games in the series I'd like remastered for PS4. It's pretty much XIII, and that's it.
@Xaessya They had an announcement trailer and also showed gameplay toward the end of last year But yes, this'll be out before 7.
@kyleforrester87 "something FF related I had forgotten"
Like Squenix has forgotten about 7. This remake will be out before "part 1" of however many 7 will wind up being. I think the bigger question is which comes first, 7 or KH3. And will there be a PS4 bundle of the KH remasters.
Squeniix certainly has a lot on it's plate, and that's not even mentioning all of the DQ stuff.
@kyleforrester87 The horror! D:
@rjejr Nearly forgot about KH3, they said they would be working on that when FF15 is released.
The only re-release I'm really hyped for is REmake 2, it would be cool if that's at TGS. Beyond that, I just want to see the newer stuff from all these companies. Gravity Rush 2, Resident Evil 7 and Scalebound are the Japanese games I'm most interested in.
@rjejr Yup they are busy, unfortunately not all of it looks great either.. But they do continue develop and publish some of my favourite games so hopefully they keep on plugging away!
Still thought this was the beginning of the rot for FF. I love the series dearly, but the story and characters were weak. Battle system is incredible though. (yes i am weak and already have on pre-order). Hope that time will have changed my opinion on it. Hoping for kh3 and ni no kuni 2 news at tgs!
Nice one. This is one of my fave Final Fantasy games along with FF9.
@themcnoisy If you're bothered about the grind you can hit mid 20 levels at the start of the game in 30 minutes with Dustia, which sets you up for over half the title... I hope they don't remove that er, oversight, from the remaster (I don't know if you could do it in IZJS, but you know what I mean)
Can't wait for this, have probably 1500 or more hours in the original but I'd love to start again.
@Drawfull What's Dustia? Man if you started 20 levels higher it would really help.
@Rob_230 The rot or a more descriptive disappointing change of direction for the mainline series began with FF11. FF12 will be better than you remember. I hated it originally but had limited experience with MMOs. I was trying to level up during contracts or hunts to face the bigger and tougher roaming enemies early on which were obviously meant to be more end game material. The initial characters are pants too but by the time Balthier and Fran show up the cast improves dramatically. Its a strange one but you do have to buy into it and similarly to ff13, just forget its a final fantasy game. The story is boss and the enemy armours, world design, gambits and lore of Ivalice are deep and well worth investing your time with as I found out on a subsequent replay.
I'm all for rereleases of quality games. Sega how about some streets of rage please?
@themcnoisy Dustia is a rare game, in the westersand at the beginning of the game.
Go thru the westersand gate and bear right, you'll need to kill or avoid two wolves* but you'll come to an exit in the north east. Before you go thru, hit yourself to get below ten percent HP (red numbers). The minute you enter that zone, Dustia will spawn and he's undead. Throw a phoenix down at hime and he dies - you need to (try and get the loot) back out of the screen before the XP etc shows. If you manage that, he'll respawn. Another phoenix Down, another 1000XP and repeat. You do need to grab the loot to give you the money to buy more phoenix downs, but it's easy if you're on wait mode (press x when he dies, see if there's a drop, wait for it to hit the floor, unpause, run forward, grab loot, exit). There's many vids and walkthroughs of it, but it makes your life miles easier, especially if you want high level equipment early, or just an easy playrhrough.
*if you're chaining obviously, don't kill them - well you'll run out pf phoenix downs, but you can sell your loot. You can run all the way west thru the westersand to the merchant before the sand sea, which I don't do, but that will keep your chain, or just go back to rabanastre, sell, buy PDs and go again. It's minutes, literally.
@themcnoisy hope you are right! I remember a really forced ending, although i wont give any spoilers here. I actually loved the spin off/sequel called revenant wings on Nintendo DS. Had hoped a port could come with the remake of 12. It was a strategy rpg, and i thought the story and music was far superior to the main title. I also never got the hate for 13. It wasnt final fantasy 9 (the best ff imo), but i thought it did what it set out to do very well.
I look forward to feeding back in a few months time with my thoughts on 12. Would love to find that it wins me over.
@Utena-mobile Lol! Btw, what's your PSN ID? I asked you in the official forum thread, but I don't think you saw the notification lol! xD
