Good news for people who lead busy lives: it won't take you hundreds of hours to reach the centre of the galaxy in No Man's Sky, as the person who purchased a pre-release copy for $1,300 achieved it in some 30 hours instead. Sean Murray had said in previous interviews that you could expect to be playing the game a long, long time to reach its "end goal", but without spoiling too much, there's apparently a resource that you can collect which shortens the campaign length.
Not that 30 hours is short to begin with – and let's keep in mind that it all depends on how much you intend to explore. The leaker, writing on Reddit, says that he took his time with the game – but admits that he still has plenty of things to do. We're not going to quote his posts because there are spoilers within, but he points out that there's very, very little repetition in the planets, and that the sound design is some of the best that he's ever experienced.
That said, he does have some complaints – namely the pacing of the experience and bugs. It's worth remembering, of course, that the leaker is playing on pre-patched code; Hello Games has already said that it's working on a day one update for the title, which is yet to be deployed. You can read more of what he has to say about the game through here, but do so at your own risk – there's just over a week to go now until this is released, after all.

The number of times I've ploughed 100s of hours into games said to have 30-hour campaigns leads me to worry not about how long it takes others to finish a title.
@FantasyMeister Yeah, it's true — it all depends on how you play it. Besides, even if it is "only" 30 hours long — it's not like that's an insignificant amount of time.
Important to point out that the centre of the Galaxy is NOT the same as the centre of the Universe....
Many Galaxies make up a Universe. Sean has often mentioned it's at the centre of the Universe that is the ultimate goal.
I think..... :/
@superstu I've heard conflicting things about that as well. The Reddit poster makes it sound like he "finished" the game, so whatever he did, he reached the end goal.
Hard to believe there's still confusion surrounding this game, but all should be cleared up in a week or so.
@get2sammyb fair point, I'm so confused too still looks like it will be everything I want it to be regardless, the next 9 days are going to be agony...
That's cool, I hope to actually finish this game then. I'm really not hyped for it at all, which is probably a good thing. I'll probably end up loving it lol
It's a chore-simulator so I imagine there'll always be "things to do". 30 hours seems more than enough if it's story content though.
Ah I take no notice if these people rushing a game. Like beating DS3 in 2 hours with a guitar. It took me a month playing 6 hrs a day it's how you play it.
I'll be getting it in a sale now prob's, not because of this just i'm not that excited about it. 30 hour's eh? So much for an infinate universe that will take a long time to finish it's certainly not the way they have been trying to sell the game to consumer's for the last year, quite the opposite really. Still I hope it turn's out to be amazing.
I read that he visited about 100 planets on his travels, which would mean he spent less than 30 minutes on each planet. And he used a resource glitch to bypass all the good stuff. Plus he hasn't finished the game, he's only reached the centre of the galaxy he started in
I don't get it...the point of the game is exploration, right? Why should we rush to the end? Why is there even an end if the game is almost 'infinite'? Can we reach the center but keep exploring? So many questions D:
Not particularly interested in the 'end goal' of NMS. The main thing I'm interested in is exploring - and I daresay this fella hasn't visited 18 quintillion planets to get to where he has. There's plenty here to enjoy even if the main 'quest' is 'only' 30 hours long.
Ultimate spoiled dude tries to spoil game for everyone else....meh....what a tool, why can't he wait like everyone else and quit being such a tosser.
It's like a guy who spends a fortune to meet the band at a gig, misses the gig while doing so and then boasts to everyone else about it.
Not being longer than 30 hours sounds like a selling point to me, rather than a detraction. Do you people not have backlogs???
Good, 30 hour is enough for me.
He paid all that money only to rush through it?! Mad b@####d!
It'll take me more than 30 hours to finish this, as a big fan of Star Trek amongst other things I'm looking forward to having my own space adventure of discovery and I suspect I'll be playing for a long time
@Deadcow Not that I know either way, but I would take that Reddit thread (if that is what you're referring to) with a huge dose of salt.
Any demo/preview code, that was printed onto a disc, would almost certainly not run on a standard PS4 as is being claimed. There are 3 types of PS4, the Dev unit (for Devs), the Debug unit (for staff/events/other types of closed-door uses) and then the retail unit that the purchaser almost certainly has.
All three of these have different firmware forks, so the chances of a "demo", "beta" or "dev" disc working perfectly on a retail PS4 are very very very slim.
There is some crazy hype/rumours/misinformation around so who knows what the truth is.
All I know is that the game still looks stunning and I cannot wait for it to finally come out
I wonder how many people this will ring true;
Without a single minute of play logged:
"wah! wah! wah! The Game is too long, Nothing to Do, No Point! Rubbish!"
Someone breaks embargo;
"Wah! Wah! Wah! It's not infinite and pointless! All hype and lies! Only £2 per hour entertainment, what a Swizz!"
Not sure about this. I actually like games that are long and open ended. I put around 400 hours into Skyrim; although that was more than one playthrough. I thought the idea of NMS was that it constantly generated new planets and stuff? Anyway, won't be long now.
@RPE83 That sounds like video game fans on the Internet.
Honestly, the things he described as bugs and/or exploitative will probably be patched out day one.. So after the day one patch it will probably take longer.
@AFCC you can explore to your hearts content even after discovering what's at the center. I honestly do not know what it is at the center and do not wish to know until I see whatever it is for myself.
I'm more excited now! 30 hours. Woo hoo.
@Bruinshockey78 I've seen Star Wars; but you literally just contradicted yourself. "...people tweeting about seeing Star Wars the night it came out that Han died. Oops, spoiler. I never understood the desire to ruin things for people." You've just spoiled Force Awakens for people who have yet to see it, lol.
@Plainsville I know, but if they haven't seen it YET, they don't intend to. It's been on Blu-ray since April and now playing on Starz. Also I should mention, Vader is Luke's father.
Cant believe the witch hunt. Lets face it if you really wanted a game & money wasnt an issue you would be the same. My now no longer in buisness local game store you could get the game day early or earlier if it came in quicker.
The end of the day its just a bloody computer game. If the finished product is so great especially that its not really a story driven game why the review embargo. Been burned too many times as soon as I see a review embargo I cancel the preorder.
@Bruinshockey78 I for one have not seen it yet but plan to once i have enough free time. I've got a 3yr old son and a 5yr old daughter so I focus the majority of my time on them. What little time I have to myself I use either resting, gaming or catching up on the backlog of movies/series I've got to watch. So, thanks for the spoiler, I'll keep my eyes peeled for said death scene
@blakey78 I have a 3year old girl & 1 year old boy. After taking my 3 year old to see last Thomas the tank engine movie I wish I had seen, read the spoilers as didnt realise it was a bloody musical. so not all spoilers are bad. I thought in 2016 we had the technology to avoid spoilers I thought DONT FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF CLICK ON PAGE. Would work for most people.
It is a really difficult task. I dont want to know the story in latest game. Big secret dont clck on any bloody links that are connected to game. Im sure my 3 year old can work that out.
sorry for the thomas Spoiler everyone.
@Bruinshockey78 Ehh... that's not a good reason to spoil things on the internet. I know a ton of people including myself who don't watch a movie until a year or more after it comes out for several reasons (in my case, usually it's because I forget to watch it and when I do remember, I'm always busy). For example I just watched Interstellar for the first time about 2 weeks ago and now it's one of my favorite movies of all time — probably would not have watched it if someone spoiled it to me in the comments section of an article completely unrelated to it.
My hype has gone down significantly since reading the reddit leaker, game sounds (emphasis on the word sounds) like a 6 or 7/10, but if there's a day one patch that fixes some things I still might buy it.
@Anguspuss Ahh phooey, my boy is an avid Thomas fan, that's one spoiler I am gutted about I agree about staying off of posts related to spoilers. I'm still yet to play U4 and so far haven't had the ending spoilt. But I steer clear of most things U4 related. My earlier comment about Star wars was more in jest. After all, what's a spoiler really going to do, ruin a film? Not really, if it's a good film you'll still enjoy it regardless of spoiler. In this instance, NMS has secrets that are always going to be shown on the likes of YouTube what with the let's play trend of today. Gamers watching others game is a big thing and once they are posted, anyone can see the content. As you said, if you want to go into the game with a blank slate, no secrets etc. Stay off of posts regarding the subject.
I know it's not a huge amount of info, but can you please refrain from posting this sort of stuff, if only because the headline and the first paragraph can be seen on the main page. It's not a huge point of frustration, but I would like to go in with as little knowledge as possible.
If he's found the middle in 30 hour's, that mean's he can find the other side of the galaxy in 60 right?? That's assuming he travelled in a straight line.
I'm with the person who said a galaxy and a universe are not the same thing.
