Ubisoft's began the marketing blitz for Tom Clancy's The Division - its upcoming open world shooter that's apparently peppered with role-playing game elements. When the title was originally shown years back at the end of one of the French company's E3 press conferences, no one was quite sure what to make of it, but thanks to our buddies over at Eurogamer, we've finally got a good look at what the release actually consists of.
Our network pals captured 14 minutes of gameplay and are keen to share their thoughts. Meanwhile, we're a bit torn having watched the footage. We're intrigued by the RPG mechanics, and comparisons with Destiny have caught our attention, but we reckon that the world and characters all look flat, predictable, and, well, just a bit lifeless. Here's hoping that the action can hold it all together.
Of course, you may totally disagree, so watch the gameplay for yourself and then feed us your opinion in the comments section below.

Totally unsure what to make of it. Some parts interest me, but it just looks so generic at points. Guess I'll have to give the beta a go and form a better opinion.
Looks as stunning as the original trailer, major hype still present here.
well that was....disappointing
i was expecting more but it looks like another generic 3rd person shooter
still it's Ubisoft so i don't know why i expected more
"we reckon that the world and characters all look flat, predictable, and, well, just a bit lifeless"
I assume that's what you meant about it being similar to Destiny.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
@LieutenantFatman But I think Destiny has style - the planets are nice and the character models are cool. A lot of colour in there, too.
The Division, meanwhile, looks a bit... Well, I don't want to say boring, but it does look bland. Like, if it didn't have those RPG elements, I don't think I'd be giving it a second glance.
Wouldn't talk about end game..... Graphics look very flat..... Shooting looks rubbish..... Takes 15mins to kill a "special" human with a +1 hat (lol)..... I was super pumped for this game but the more I seem to watch the more I'm starting to think it's going to be another Destiny, but the last part perked me up with the "more for solo players" as I don't get much time to play, still on the fence may cancel my pre order and see what people say and read some reviews!
@ShogunRok Fair point on the colour, always nice to have a bit of that.
Let's not forget that there's a Season Pass for this game… I really hope this game is nothing like Destiny and by that I mean lacking in content in base game. I wonder how big the maps are in this game. The maps in Destiny were pretty small considering that its a MMO.
Look's pretty decent i'm excited, the open world is massive and seamless and there's ton to do and discover while exploring the vast relistic post appocolyptic New York, i'm sold on that alone and that sound's like what Destiny really needed, i'm not even souring my excitement with destiny comparison's. Will all future RPG shooter's be compared to Destiny, the black zone sound's awsome nevermind the rest i'm getting more hyped the more I think about it.
It's still just a shooter, I'm not sure what y'all were expecting. It probably really needs a few dragons, some zombies, rainbow capes, a story plot that involves 'saving' a mildly helpless individual, mining capabilities, 4000 weapon mods, a beanie hat, lazer swords, retro music, a zeppelin level and a bag of magic beans.
The Black Zone alone is more interesting than Destiny, & unlike Destiny this is open world. I will definitely be checking it out, oh and it's all seem less.
To me it looks like it's suffered the not-untypical Ubisoft downgrade from its reveal, though not on the scale of Watchdogs luckily!
As I stated in the other thread about this, I have a lot of 'concerns' about the story - the way its laid out with the still 'echoes' and the game-play itself - it seems that its just clear out an area of enemies then move on to the next and repeat and repeat with a bit of scavenging for gear along the way.
I'll stick to GTA Online.
Too "realistic" to really grab my attention. Don't get me wrong, realism has its place. In a horror game it can make it even more scary, for example. It's just that in a game where you'll probably be redoing the same content in the same areas 100s of times, it's not good to start with boring, rainy streets that you see outside every day anyway. It's like an imagination free zone. Do I really want to spend time and money making my PS4 render miserable, grey, generic streets with men wearing coats shooting other men wearing coats?
My friend is all about plain, boring, "realistic" settings (he's the kind of guy that gets CoD and FIFA every year, although to give him credit, he's not as bland as that makes him sound at all) and he seems to be quite excited about this game. That means I might get it anyway just to play it with him. Just as planned, I guess.
I cant believe how much it's changed. The comparison videos on Eurogamer.net show it perfectly. Once again ubisoft try to get folks interested in the their game with 'game play footage' only for the game to surface a couple of years later looking sterile, lifeless and generic. It's looks bland, boring and soulless.
@ApostateMage HAven't seen the video above but I agree GTA is holding the test of time! so much fun even 2 years later.
I'm not impressed. Looks pretty plain.
