Britannia will rule in Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the next entry in Ubisoft's stealth series. As part of a livestream earlier today, the French firm confirmed that its oft rumoured London-based romp will release on the PlayStation 4 from 23rd October. The game will be set in 1868 – not to be confused with 1886, of course.
You'll play as sibling double-act Jacob and Evie Frye, and the title will see you forming gangs with poorer folk in order to thwart the plots of the pesky – and seemingly well off – Templars. There's probably a meta-commentary hidden somewhere in this premise about the current state of British politics, but we won't go there.
During the reveal, the publisher showed off about ten minutes from the game, in which Jacob used his new knuckledusters, hallucinogenic darts, and grappling hook to liberate a slum. You'll also be able to ride stage coaches and trains; we got a glimpse at the former in the demo, as the hatted hero chased down a gang leader.
We've embedded the game's first trailer and pre-alpha footage in the space below. Will you be doffing your hat at this open world adventure? Give us a hearty 'hoi guv'nor' in the comments section below.

This should be interesting, I like the setting. Way better than France...
Like the setting, looks really fun, reminds me of peaky blinders just hope ubi don't fudge it up.
ok I am officialy intrested
let's just hope it won't be as big a mess as Unity was
I'm glad they took away the multiplayer. I only play single player any way and hopefully that will lead to more positive reviews from everyone - assuming they can make it more stable for players.
It looks really good but hopefully its nothing like Unity, if the reviews are good & there are no problems I'll definitely be getting it, love the settings.
I've preorder quite a lot of ac games but am gonna wait for the reviews and gameplay streams when it's actually out, don't want another unplayable Unity! Also nothings really caught my eye, just looks like ac but in London.
London's calling.
I think it will be good. Think unity was rushed cos ubisoft were working on 3 games at sane time unity map was massive but the story hardly used it. Still prefer ac2 .
Not sure about the "Gangs of New York" style street brawls. Maybe that did happen on the streets of London, but I can't recall covering it in History lessons or seeing it in any other media!
The new fighting didn't look particularly dynamic or revelatory and the carriage driving segments looked down right awful.
Saying that, if reviews are good I'll probably buy it.
Your behind PushSquare. IGN has 5 articles already!
LOL this looks horrible and seems to be the same stuff!
Mixed feelings about the gameplay...
While the concept, story and new features are really cool, the combat and npc's seem dumber and even less intricate than usual.
You can just throw a knife at someone 10 feet below you while they're right next to at least 2 civilians and none of them make any remark or appear frightened in the slightest? Really?
If Ubisoft added more small details then this would be a must-buy for me. Once again supporting that the 1-year release schedule for this series is stupid.
@XFsWorld jesus old england looks identical to old France !!! Rehashed nonsense , the horrible pop and draw in have also been brought over from unity.
If it wasnt for the npc's accent change then you would think you were back in paris!!!!
It looks like DLC from unity.
@stevejcrow Bare knuckle boxing originated in the UK around 1705 so well over a century before this game takes place and the people of New York decided to have a go.
Will wait two months after release to pay half the price and have the patches already released, otherwise color me excited.
Ok let's be honest here- it's Assassin's Creed. It's gonna be good at the very least. But likewise, it's Assassin's Creed, the same old game we've been playing year in year out. And it doesn't look like much has changed. Well, they have seemed to Arkhamize it a little more- hallucinogenic darts that turn enemies against themselves, grappling hook and wires... ya.
I promised myself I was done pre ordering these games two Assassin's Creeds ago. Unity was definitely the last straw. I don't care how good it looks, runs, plays, or reviews for that matter. I'll pick it up when it's $20. That's my new rule for annualized franchises.
@Eldritch I wasn't meaning the clips of the boxing bouts, more the gang street fights to claim territory.
@stevejcrow Ah right, sorry my mistake. Well there were certainly a fair few extremely violent gangs flaunting their stuff in London from the 16th century onward. Whether they fought over territory I don't know but most gangs seem to. Ps. Just to be boring, there were no gangs fighting for territory in New York at the time Gangs of New York was set... except in the eyes of the book's author.
@Davros79 Accent change? Most of those Frenchies I encountered sounded like they were from Devon or Cornwall; with the odd Londoner thrown in for good measure. (Unless you switched to the French language? Which I certainly did eventually)
