Stop press: the best PlayStation 4 firmware update v2.50 feature has been found by this enthusiastic author. Upon inserting a farm fresh copy of Bloodborne into Sony's black behemoth earlier today, your humble host spotted that its day one patch started to download immediately. "It's done that since the beginning of time," we hear you scream. Well, no it hasn't actually.
One annoying flaw in the previous system software was that you had to manually boot a game before it would search for patches, forcing you to have to exit back out while it downloaded. There was a workaround for this issue but it required actual hard labour, and we don't know about you, but putting a Blu-ray into a disc slot already proves plenty strenuous for this scribe.
So, that's solved now, then. Can we get the PlayStation Store icon moved back next?

I never had to back out while games were updateing it always gave me the option of playing offline while it downloaded the update
@FullbringIchigo Well, yeah - y'know what I mean, though.
@get2sammyb yeah I do
I hope this does not mean that "farm fresh copy of Bloodborne" is actually the review copy of Bloodborne.
Actually this happened to me then i clicked triangle and it says check for update, so i always used to do that before booting a new game just incase
Cool
@sinalefa It's not, but we've decided to really take our time with the review. We will have tons of impressions from numerous team members over the weekend, though.
@get2sammyb
Oh, ok. Thanks for the reply. I will be looking forward to it. So I guess you will do a "What games besides Bloodborne are you playing this weekend"
@get2sammyb Eurogamer gave Bloodborne a glowing review and got me interested in the game for the 1st time...I hadn't realised it was so influenced by the Cthulhu mythos and the work of H. P. Lovecraft. However I'm holding off on buying the game until I've seen the review on here and input from fellow gamers.
@hoffa007 yeah, I always "check for updates".
@get2sammyb: Haha you still mad at the movement of the store icon?
This was the patch to end all patches. It was nice to pop in my old Watchdogs last night and have it update before I played. It was really great. I am digging the suspend/resume the most. Great when I am in the thick of things and need to go to work.
@get2sammyb - Tell Sony I'm not buying a PS4 until the store icon moves back, or The Last Guardian releases, whichever comes first.
@get2sammyb huh. I feel like I remember having to manually force the update when I put my brand new copy in last night. Would I need to change something in settings?
How can your article be accurate? Shadow of Mordor updated for me last week and the disc wasn't even in my ps4. That's not the first games that's done that on me. Some people just don't pay attention.
@Section8 I think when the ps4 is in rest mode, it searches for updates or something like that and will install them immediately
What Sammy is referring to is when you first put in a game for a day one patch, you have to manual click check for update. He's saying as soon as he put in the disc for the first time, it immediately started downloading.
Must admit, Sony have been quite good with this firmware update. Perhaps they are finally learning how to make software too?
