Telltale Games Industry Corporate

Lionsgate, the film studio behind The Hunger Games, has announced that it's made a significant financial investment in The Walking Dead developer Telltale Games. While no new titles have been announced, it has been confirmed that the movie company's boss Jon Feltheimer will join the studio's board of directors. Former Electronic Arts gaffer John Riccitiello will also be taking a top seat at the organisation, as it attempts to build on its success.

While the immediate assumption was that it would be bringing Suzanne Collins' popular stories to life, gaffer Kevin Bruner has revealed the firm's plans to forge some kind of "super show", fusing both television and games. "Our goal is to create products that have a legitimate chance of winning both a Golden Globe and a Game of the Year," he told Entertainment Weekly.

He further outlined the idea: "Each super show episode [the interactive game and the scripted show] will be released as a package designed so that you can consume the interactive portion or watch the scripted show portion in any order that you'd like." He also stressed that the company would like to create a new property to realise the plan.

To be honest, it sounds like a terrible concept to us, but we suppose that Telltale has the chops to pull it off. We doubt that we'll be seeing the fruits of its labour for a while, though, as it's currently working on four different episodic escapades. Personally, we wished that it would just take all of that Lionsgate money and invest it into a new engine, but we suppose that that would be asking too much, wouldn't it?
