Breach and clear

Back in 2011, Gameinformer had the pleasure of unveiling the next Rainbow Six unto the world, which was called Patriots. With a trailer released during the Spike VGA 2011 show and a full cover story from the aforementioned magazine, Ubisoft Montreal seemed to have its sights set on continuing with this darker, politically-charged entry in its renowned stealth-shooter series. But with no major updates on the game since that year, there's been much speculation over what would happen to it. Today, Ubisoft closed out its E3 press conference with a tense, thrilling trailer for the reborn PlayStation 4 title, Rainbow Six Siege.

Consisting of six glorious minutes of multiplayer gameplay footage, imagine Counter-Strike's Hostage Rescue mode with much greater depth and graphical fidelity. The trailer starts out with five SWAT agents (Team Raven) who are on their way to rescue a hostage from five, well-prepared criminals (Team Rogue). What's surprising is that the clever strategies and nerve-wracking action that both teams utilize takes place in a small, three-story suburban home. As we watched the stealth and chaos unfold, we were astonished at how the destructibility and asymmetrical level design of the map constantly altered the flow of gameplay as the players shot through the walls, destroyed a ceiling with a bomb charge, and more.
